Hi, I'm 26 y.o male with no liver diease/kidney disease/ diabetes or other known conditions. In the last year I started to suffer from unexplained serious symtpoms. The first one was hair loss. Hundreds of hairs are falling each day from all over the head including eyelashes and eyebrows(diagnosed by my derm as Telogen Effluvium). Then, came muscle pains, stomach pains, GI weird sounds, unexplained weight loss, memory problems, concentration problems, weird white smooth coating on the tongue, white ridged nails with red tips that looks like Terry's nails(always been smooth and uniformly pink) ,fatigue, vision problems(it comes and goes. blurred vision), tingling in hands and feet, anxeity, tinnitus and really bad insomnia. Blood test are all good(thyroid hormones are optimal, no antibodies for TPO or Thyroglubulin, vitamin D, zinc, iron, ferritin,no liver issues or diabetes ). My B12 was 300(I was vegetarian for 10 years) and I have atrophic gastritis diagnosed by gastroscopy. I got 35 cyanocobalamin injections over two months by my dr and some of my symptoms improved but some still persists even after months of treatment. Before the shots I took B12 methylcobalamin sublingual but it didn't help at all. My B12 is now above 2000. My dr stopped the injections but I still have symptoms. My nails are still ridged and white. I still have hair loss, tingling in feet that comes and goes and memory problems. I'm adding a pic of my nails. Its not so clear but they are ridged and most of them white without lanula and there is a thin red strip at the top. My doctor doesn't know what is the cause for all of my symptoms. I have lately severe muscle pains and excruciating stab pain in my right leg. It feels like its coming from my nerves. P.S my father has some of my symptoms, he eats meat everyday and he has b12 of 210. I would really appreciate if someone have similar nails or symptoms and can shed a light on my situation. Thank you very much!.

Hi El10

We appreciate that you must feel very concerned, however, community guidelines do explain we are not a medical forum and ask that members do not post test results asking for interpretation or medical advice.

No one is medically qualified on the forum, and it is important that you discuss these results with your own doctor for their medical assessment, they have access to your complete medical notes and are best placed to advise.

In the meantime you may wish to visit the British Liver Trust website for more information:

Very best wishes.

I have the pains all over my body as well with a stabbing pain in my left leg that feels like you described and all my bloodwork has come back fine.. I’ve been told I have gastritis from and endoscopy. That’s the only thing my doctors has found as well. Hope you find answers soon

Ohh :( . this is a terrible experience that the doctor doesn’t know the cause for the issues we have. Can you tell me how is your ferritin and B12 levels? I guess you didn’t take the test for pernicious anemia? I have a gastro specialist next month. I hope I’ll have more answers...

I was tested for anemia and my levels were normal so they ruled that out. I don’t have the answers to the other two. I am going Monday for an abdominal ultrasound again to see if anything has changed. Please keep me posted if you’re Gastro gives you any answers .. it’s very frustrating

Hi. I had an ultrasound of my whole abdomen and everything came back normal. So I am at a loss again. I got a copy of the ultrasound results and it says liver is smooth. Although I guess it’s good news, I feel like I am back to square one. Has anything changed for you?

Actually no. Still suffering with symptoms with no apparent reason. Tried a few anti depressants pills but with no improvement. I really hope the gastro specialist will help me. if you can check your ferritin, vitamin D and B12 it will help solving this problem. Normal range doesn’t mean optimal range.

Hi, yes I have an abnormal test result and now my doctor thinks he knows the cause for the problems. Its iron. My hemoglobin and MCH are below the nornal range which indicates iron deficiency. My ferritin level is 50. My doctor prescribes me an liquid iron supplement as its absorbed better. It took me 4 months to elevate my ferritin levels from 30 to 60 and I was taking 3 iron pills a day. My doctor told me he wants it to be at least in the middle of the normal range(the nornal range for men is between 20-320). He gave me a referral to an hematologist because of the anemia I have now. In the last year I eat meat regularly and taking many iron pills but my ferritin didn’t get to where it should be and my hemoglobin has been decreased which is absurd. I don’t have any bleeding in the GI tract, my colonscopy is completely normal besides gastritis which is very common. Many symptoms went away such as blurred vision, weight loss, tinnitus and tingling. Now I have hair loss(still hundreds per day), muscle pains, white ridged nails, smooth white coating on the tongue and fatigue. Please if you have these symptoms. check for B12, iron and ferritin levels.

I know this is an old post but I notice you have extremely long fingers. I am curious if you have any other signs of Marfans syndrome? Also I am curious if you have ever heard of POTS(postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome)? Both of would ultimately be up to a doctor to diagnose but if you do some research and find that you feel it may fit your symptoms it may give you a direction to point your doctors.

Hi, I am closing replies to this post as mentioned in the community guidelines, no one here is medically trained and cannot offer you a diagnosis or suggest medication for you to take. Best wishes,

Trust10.
