Nails..?

Hi, noticed my nails are going all weird now too, the lunula on most of my nails has gone.. but my main concern is this white banding on them? looks much worse in person. Could this be a vitamin deficiency causing this? I might book appointment with GP monday.

I feel so ill.. any idea how long it takes to get an appointment for liver biopsy? B'ham requested my local gastro arranges my biopsy but I have no idea how long this could take?

Your lunula are still evident in those pictures, ok they may be a little higher up the nail bed but that crescent moon shape is still there.

I wonder why Birmingham didn't just go ahead and book your biopsy for there, they are always going to have a higher level of expertise than your local hospital.

Crazy that you are being left with all sorts of symptoms and no answers.

I read in the letter that was sent from bham to my local, it said to send the results back to them in bham..

I'll call up my gastro secretary monday morning see if I can get things going again!

Yes, I was wondering the same as Katie. Think you might need to mither that secretary, I've had to do it a few times, she has always been very good and got sorted. Good luck. Please let us know how you get on. Take care Lynne

I have stage 4 chirrohsis and don't know if this is the cause of my nails just breaking off and becoming very dry...The cuticles are so dry and are like nails sometimes even though I use nail oil.

My nails became very brittle and continually broke below the white. Once I started taking iron tablets to correct low ferritin levels, my nails went back to normal :)

Thank you for the reply, I do take iron supplement but it's not helping.

Sorry to hear that- don't know what else to suggest, except I use balm on my nails every night. Nails are made from keratin, a protein, so maybe you need to eat more protein? :)
