All those good intentions to get out for a run this morning were stymied by the strong winds rattling the house when I woke up. Then came the downpour, good to be inside. Then...I realised I'd run out of milk so I'd have to walk to the shop across the road or else do without the cuppa I craved.
Once I got outside it wasn't so bad so I decided to walk to the Tesco a few minutes further up the road and get a couple of other bits too. It really was OK out there.
I looked at my feet. Chelsea boots with a thick, hard sole. Why didn't I wear my trainers? And trackies instead of jeans? Then I could have run there? Too late to turn back so I did my shopping and turned for home.
Now, besides my unsuitable clothes and shoes, I was carrying 4 pints of milk. Then inspiration hit - why not do a symbolic run? Maybe Coach Bennett's One Minute Run? Shuffling through the NRC app was no fun, I think the raindrops interfered with the touch screen. Anyway, I couldn't find the One Minute Run so I got ambitious and did the Two Minute Run instead. Wow, I doubled my initial goal on my first run of the year. Carry on like this and it'll be Ultramarathons by December!!
I have to say it was hard work but I managed it π Shoes and all the gear really do make a difference lol.
The runners high was quite disproportionate to the distance run, and NRC even gave me a badge for running on New Years Day! I'm still smiling
Happy New Year and Happy New Runs to all of you

Excellent. We all understand totally why you would do that and why it made you feel so good- now try to explain it to one of your non-running friends and see the look of disbelief spread across their face!.Happy 2025!
LOL!!! ( βdoubled my initial goal β¦ Carry on like this and it'll be Ultramarathons by December!!β)
Yes, I wish the NRC app would have a search function.
I donβt quite remember the 2 min run, but the one minute run on NRC is hilarious. Hope you find it and line it up for another time. But be prepared that you might laugh more than run! ππ
I really enjoyed reading that post it really optimises how life can be sometimes with this hobby. I havenβt run this year as I did a run on New Yearβs Eve and didnβt feel as good as I have, most of the family have had chest infections both my mum and girlfriend having to go on antibiotics and someone miraculously I managed to get away with it. But was blowing for a tug 20 mins in to the last run anyways out today to see how it goes later.
The run today was a little strange as Iβm not used to the Nike Run Club app , the Coach seems a little over the top at times hope he improves over time!!, maybe the next run he will be asking what word I can think of whilst running or what Iβd like to do what I never thought of doing today. If thereβs method in what heβs doing I hope I suddenly get used to it!.
Coach Bennett asks a lot of questions!! A lot of us enjoy his coaching, he can be a good companion on a run if you have a similar sense of humour.
There are other coaches too - maybe try a run with Coach Cory. He's British and just sounds so cheerful and friendly. Actually most of the coaches are pretty good, just depends what sort of run you want to do. The others don't tend to ramble as much as Coach B, he can get away with it because he's the head coach (and so many people like him )
