Hello Everyone. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Hello everyone. Sorry I’m late posting today. Been a crazy morning. I did my parkrun today at my home course in Navan. I also decided to bring my Cocker Spaniel Ruby with me. It was breezy but lovely and bright. We ran nice and comfortable and finished in a time of 28:50. Ruby ran well on the lead and probably ran her best time on the lead. I left straight after, got home shower, threw my two boys into the car and drove to a Forrest zip line course. Hope you all had a great parkrun morning.
Good afternoon Damien, glad you enjoyed your parkrun with Ruby this morning, all the 4's for me today at Palacerigg Country parkrun, for the first time ever I was a parkWALKER, I was walking along with the tailwalker and a few other walkers too, time:-1:04:04.
It's a one lap trail course so the fastest running don't lap the slower runners or walkers, so that's 19 volunteer duties I have done, perhaps not too long until I get the 25 volunteer T Shirt,
Tomorrow I am a marshall once again at Palacerigg, this time it's a 10K trail race on behalf of the charity Childline.
Well done Al. I ran this morning in my Purple V25 T-Shirt. I wear it with pride. I’m taking a break from volunteering this year as I am trying to do 50 parkruns this year on my 50th year on this planet.
PS Oldgirlruns, Sunday, just come back from my volunteering duty at The Palacerigg 10K Trail run, I was a marshall at the steepest part of the run cheering the runners with a cowbell up the hill, I took money with me but because I was a marshall all the food before the run and after the run was free, in the cafe after the run, many of the runners thanked me for cheering them up the hill.
Just a short note today Damien to prove I was in attendance! Well, I couldn’t miss Southsea’s 500th could I? Another volunteering session as I did finish tokens duty with Dexy5. We anticipated a large crowd but in the end it was 310; as Dexy says in her post, family stuff, the Victorious festival and the appalling weather probably all played a part in this fairly low number for our parkrun. But we had glitter, festival clothing, bunting and cake so all the elements for a celebration were there! A delayed brunch with Dexy and UpTheStanley then home to dry out the very wet shoes!
Thanks for the thread damienair …sounds like you’ve had a super morning. How close is Ruby to earning a milestone collar/lead 🤣? I think there could be an untapped market there…
I’ve been to Eastville Park and enjoyed myself. I had to drop off my husband in central Bristol early this morning otherwise I doubt I’d have ventured out. I’m really glad that I did! I’m still recovering from covid and haven’t run since last week’s parkrun. Still feeling heavy and slow, but I was pleased to finish three minutes faster and a lot more comfortable than last week. I’m taking that as progress!
I’ve forgotten how much I love a really rainy run. Nothing like it to make you feel like a total hero! It took a while, but I’ve finally dried out!
Thank you! Surprised how long it’s taking. I’m trying to focus on each run being a step closer to being back to normal rather than being too fed up about how slow I feel. It’ll pass in its own time and I need to find some patience from somewhere!!
That’s the worst bit. I’m really finding it hard to regulate my breathing. A friend who runs and had it the same time as me is still the same. I’d already decided to ditch the October marathon for the 25km…and now I’m thinking of the 10km instead. Trying not to feel too demoralised. I know there’ll be other opportunities. For now, just putting one foot (slowly!) in front of the other.
No parkrun for me today for the second week on the trot - last week at Center Parcs, this week family staying over. However I did manage 2 hilly 8ks at Longleat, an 11k earlier this week and a steady non-parkrun 5k yesterday, so I can't complain! Happy running one and all😃
We spent yesterday in New Lanark, had a lovely meal in the New Lanark Hotel and stayed overnight in the car park, with 5 other vans. We met the occupants of one at Lanark Moor parkrun. Very nice course but a bit tougher than I expected, followed by breakfast at the Inn on the Loch.
I would hate to be the marshal at the second to last position - as we walked past to the Inn there was a very strong smell of bacon Imagine standing there until the Tailwalker passes.
We are now at Scone, continuing our journey north.
Yes thank you. So far the weather has been better than the forecast during the day, with heavy rain at night. I quite like drifting off to sleep with the rain hammering on the roof
What a beautiful place to stay RunaroundSue We stayed there a few years ago and loved it. We met The King AlMorr up there too at Drumpellier Parkrun 🙌 We also loved the Inn on the Loch too 😊
It’s Portsmouth Victorious Festival weekend so our 500th parkrun had a festival theme, cakes , a singer with guitar and bunting along the funnel. You never know how many people are likely to turn up to chase a 500, or how many festival attendees might want to do parkrun as well, so as token queen, I made up extra tokens to cover 800 runners! The weather fairies were not on our side and it was raining from the time we left home at 8.00 to well after we finished our lunch. Coddfish was timekeeping, Mr C barcode scanning, Oldgirlruns and I handing out finish tokens and UpTheStanley on number checking. Any festival fancy dress worn by us volunteers was well and truly covered by waterproof jackets and over trousers but I did have diamanté on my cheeks which seemed to stay on well. Lots of runners were showing off bright clothing, beach shirts , flowers in hair etc.
One man who used to be a regular Southsea parkrunner, but had a stroke this year, wanted to attend 500 and he walked the route in 1 hr 45 mins, wearing a parkwalker vest, In true parkrun style, the funnel was still there and he got cheered on by all the volunteers. How many turned up today? Just 310. Probably due to weather, people avoiding festival traffic and escaping Portsmouth for the weekend. Not to mention run 999 at bushey today.
Only c1800 at Bushy. I heard they were expecting 4000 😱 Maybe next week? They’ve got more funnel managers than we have volunteers next week 😂
Congratulations on the Southsea 500th Dexy! Sounds like it was a HU takeover! Love the way we both did finish tokens today. There’s quite a lot of pressure on it when you’ve done the previous week’s token sorting, isn’t there? 😬
You exemplified the spirit of parkrun with your final finisher 🥰
I always get UTS to check my tokens on the string after I’ve sorted so I have full confidence 😂. And yes HU runners did well at volunteering today.
I do feel sorry for Bushy parkrun. They are obviously under a lot of pressure from Royal Parks and local residents to not take over the car parks etc, but the home of parkrun is a big draw, especially for those wanting get challenges completed. I’m glad I did it when it was only 800 post pandemic.
Volunteer vests are drying on bannisters now, ready for next week.
I know what you mean. I don’t hear too much about there being any push back from residents. Hopefully it’s a big enough park to cope and they really are so well organised (25 funnel managers next week!). We get whingers, I know you get whingers, I think all parkruns get whingers. It has really put Bushy on the map.
We have our very useful cupboard for our vests - it has washing lines and a heater. The heater was my friend today 😍
Very well done to that man on completing the parkrun yesterday and well done to everyone for keeping the course open for him. What a fantastic achievement. And congratulations to all involved for Southsea parkruns 500th event.
Yes he’s been running with us since 2015, PB 21 mins. He put so much into that walk in the pouring rain. His wheel chair accompanied him along the way but wasn’t used.
I was umming and ahhing about whether to run today as I was very stiff last night and I’ve a long run tomorrow. As it was, I was still stiff when I woke up, so I volunteered. It was throwing it down this morning, so I was glad to be turned down for a marshal point and had the distraction of finish tokens. Never done them before and it was quite easy with my very experienced companion. Considering it’s a bank holiday, we were 100 down compared to last week thanks to the weather. It did make it a nice quiet post run coffee with Shake-and-run afterwards though.
Hopefully a yoga session, a hydration tablet and a bit of rollering will ease me up for tomorrow 🤞 Have a great week all 👏👏👏
Well done TC. Finish tokens was my first ever volunteer and I was paired up with someone I now know as Coddfish . I was given the easier job of passing small bundles to her for handing out, but have done both tasks many times.
😍 I did that job today, with the small parcels! The trick is not to panic when you need to get the next hanger of tokens out of the bag. I was very careful tonight after sorting the tokens to make sure their hangers were laid inside in the correct order.
Once I’d done my Yoga for ITB and a bit of rollering my legs felt much better Dexy. 16 miles tomorrow 😬 then only two more long runs to go 🥳
As a fellow member of the IT band (a club none of us particularly want to be in!) I’m intrigued by the yoga….wheres that from? I love a bit of yoga and I’ve never done anything specific for my IT band.
Yoga for Joelle, on YouTube, MissU. She does a couple of really good ones, ‘Yoga for IT Band and Hips’, which is about 20 minutes and ‘Lower Back Release’. You’ll feel a bit sore after but they do seem to help.
After a few months away from parkrun, I went to Hampstead Heath with my club today.
I was late, it was raining and I needed to use the loo, so I ended up not running, but it was lovely to be back at a parkrun. The energy really is contagious.
I'm hoping to go back to more events soon and continuing my journey across London's parkruns.
I am over the moon about my parkrun today - my 50th!! The weather report last night said it would be pouring with rain, but it turned out ok, just a refreshing light drizzle. I was aiming for a decent effort while wearing my red cardboard tiara, so I set off at a fair clip. Somehow I kept it going and crossed the finish line with an all-time PB, corresponding to a 73% age grading. Wow! That dealt a blow to the mega stress of preparing to relocate overseas at the end of this month. Kapow! I must have let all of the steam out of my system at parkrun today. I feel much better 😃 and I'm looking forward to parkrunning on the other side of the world. The HU forum has been a huge help. Thank you to all who contribute. Happy running everyone.
Thank you. Good luck with your goal of 50 parkruns in your 50th year. Whew! That sounds like a challenge and a half, but after reading about your interval training regime, it'll probably be a "walk in the park" for you.
Thank you. It looks like they start an hour earlier 😴 and I'll have to travel further to find one. I'm determined to keep up with parkrunning, even if it takes more effort.
Well done Damienair and everyone on your parkrun. I went to Roberts Park with my bruised foot 🙃 😫, Didn't start off great my phone went blank as we started brilliant so I just went with the flow and finished a really nice quick flatished course, didn't have a clue about time but got home and me and my son in law both got pbs 29.30 wow where did that come from and he got just over 22 minutes.
Morning, well I completed my local parkrun yesterday, Cycle Route 43 parkrun,Ystalyfera, (to give it its full title) I think people are starting to use CR43 Ystalyfera which is much better👍, My time was 27:41 so I'm slowly getting my pace back after my asthma flare up. I have also been over to Ireland but unfortunately my daughter had her baby on a Monday, a healthy little girl coming out at 5lb 11oz and has hard as I tried I wasn't able to drag our stay out to the Saturday. Still we did have a wander around Wicklow and Bray before we got into Dublin and the weather was really good, So I'm now making a list of parkruns and other events in Ireland for future reference, nothing like being prepared😁👍
I just re read damienair's post and see that your local run is Navan, my daughter lives near Rathmolyon, which is about 20 minutes from Navan, small world👍
Vey well done on your parkrun. Great finish time. My two sisters live in Wicklow. I was up there over the weekend hanging around Bray, Greystones and Roundwood. Yes I live in Navan, I know where Rathmolyon is. Congratulations to your daughter on her little girl and congratulations to and your family too.
My first run of a parkrun for two months. I'd volunteered a few times in the meantime, including twice being tail walker, but this was my first run for a while.
I'd gradually worked up my distances through the last week, mostly taking a rest day after each run.
Except I had done a light run on Friday and then parkrun the next day.
A relatively quiet turnout at my local. I held back at the start and kept it slower for at least half the first lap. Got stuck behind a small group who were deep in conversation. Then we got overtaken by a few people who had got impatient, and I followed.
I found my pace and for a few laps kept exchanging positions with a small number of runners: I was a little stronger on the hills and they were faster on the flat.
No heroics at the end. I was just glad to finish.
I did a little tech support for someone who had forgotten their barcode (find them in a previous run results, get their barcode number from that, generate barcode on phone)
My own time? 33:31. Nowhere near the PB I did this time last year, but not as slow as I suspected I'd been.
Congratulations on the comeback parkrun. Nice time too… your patience during the recovery period (not easy to find!) seems to have paid dividends. Onwards and upwards!
