I have so far turned right out the back gate, which seems to lead to the main (though very quiet) road then loops back round to the seafront, I did try turning off and going down a few alleyways but it wasn't happening so I turned round and as I'd been walking about 5 minutes I eased into a very slow run.....and then I found it!!!! Just left outside my back gate and a few metres on...A long track with lush green trees, so gently I carried on. For those who don't know I fell really ill on 3 may with the nastiest stomach bug I've ever had, and thinking it was a 24 hour thing I was horrified when it didn't go away and quite worried, but then I read there's a real nasty doing the rounds so I sat miserably waiting to get better.....and I just about have 😁.So, I ran, I stopped to take photos, I crossed a bridge, my new version of the railway bridge, but this one goes over a road.....after about 2 kilometres I was wondering if I should turn around when I arrived at a road so I followed it round and was soon on the seafront, a couple of kilometres from home.
Here I said hello to a few people and one man with 2 dogs stopped for a chat, so I headed home with a smile on my face, I went a bit faster and I walked a bit and Garmin clocked 5k just as I arrived back at my new bungalow, so I've found my 5k loop, including stops for photos and chats it took slightly more than an hour but it's a benchmark, somewhere I'll run every so often just because it's lovely.
Run happy or rest well 😁

This is so great to read Sue.. first that your tummy is so much better and second that you have settled into your new home! I hope the missing bed arrived and you’ve been sleeping well and that has helped. Your “home run” sounds like a lovely route, and if you choose you will be able to see the sea every day in all its moods. Wonderful.
Although we are fairly close to the sea, I would probably have to do around 8 or 10kms for a circuit from home to include a bit of coast or cliffs.. I can walk it on a good day, but I’ll never run it. Today I just drove a little way and parked for a walk down Peasholm Glen, through the Park, along the prom and back up to the car.. just 4kms and no running at all.
Your walk sounds great, I drove along the seafront this afternoon after shopping, walked down to the beach and double checked where I have to meet for tomorrow's parkrun volunteering 😁 the other end of the beach is huge
That’s a lot of empty beach! Especially if you want to walk across it to paddle or swim.. is it safe to swim? Here it’s pretty safe, when it’s calm, but best around high tide on the south bay. The north bay here is popular for surfers.
Tomorrow will be good. You will meet lots of new friends. Have fun!
It is a lot of beach isn't it? It's much narrower further down nearer where I live, I believe it is safe to swim, but unless the weather cheers up a bit I won't be swimming 🤣
Sounds like you've found exactly what you need there. Good luck in your new home and enjoy those lovely runs now you've recovered. What a tough time you've had, let's hope things are on the up 😁
oh my niece had something similar over the Easter weekend and it went on for 2 weeks - spoilt her little trip down to see her family and they packed up and went home halfway through the first week and she stayed in bed for best part of 2 weeks.
It’s sounds nasty and I’m glad you are recovered now and back to starting to feel normal. Enjoy your new 5k loop
I’m glad you’re feeling better again Sue and what a great way to celebrate! I’m sure you’ll make good use of your new 5km route; a real bonus to have the countryside and seaside all in one!
Happy new home runs, it certainly takes a while to find new runs around a new area I’m still finding them nearly 6 months on!
Does sound idylic with the sea and thoughts of a swim, there must be a sea swimming group to befriend too.
Glad you are feeling better tummy bugs take a while to clear them you have to re build all those gut microbes, but the sea air and new horizons beautiful !!!
Excellent work SAR! You have established base camp. A really attractive go to route which can be your default setting whilst you search further afield. Park Runners will no doubt share info too. You are up and running! 🙂
This is so wonderful to read. Chatty dogs. Gorgeous new setting. Recovery!!! Those stomach bugs really take it out of you. So glad you’re on your way back. Wishing you many happy runs exploring your new home town. ❤️
I’m very happy for you Sue. It’sa lovely area and you are already out meeting new people. I would absolutely love to use that beach for my drills and speed work!
glad you are better. I’m so lucky I have two stunning leafy park paths to the beach so I get the best of both too. FYI the sea is still perishingly cold 😀
So pleased that you’re feeling better and have been out exploring. It sounds as if you’ ve found a lovely 5K route and are getting to know people already, you’ll soon have it all feeling like home!
Glad to hear you have got over your stomach bug and are feeling better. A 5k from home taking in lanes and coast sounds perfect and connecting to parkrun will help you settle in properly. Fab!
That looks just perfect! How lovely to have the sea so near. And I'm also pleased you are getting better enough to run. All going in the right direction! Xx
