feel like I’m an imposter here

hi

I’m running the Bridge to 10 k podcast again but still only just got to 5k. I started running again end of Feb after 8 months convalescence from an op. I did it sensibly and went back to C25k week 4 which I felt I could do comfortably and built up from there. I ran the 3 x 30 min runs in week 9 but was still nowhere near 5k, so then I ran a week of 35 min runs and then I was feeling good so did the 4 x 10 min runs and 1 min walk intervals for B210k week1. And the first time I ran it I pushed on to 45:45 and ran 5k so as you can see I’m pretty slow at the mo. I’ve only ever managed 37:32 at my peak 😂😂 so I wasn’t expecting much.

Anyway I HAVE inspired one of my nephews to start running. He was like me … hated running and sport at school but has now decided he needs to get fit and today he is about to start week 2 of C25k. 😁proud aunty moment.

So this morning I I had intended to run early before it got too hot but some of my neighbours had other plans and partied noisily into the wee hours so I woke at 8.30 and by the time I’d faffed and stretched etc I ran at 9.25 in the end and it was pretty hot then…16 degrees already and I’m a delicate Celtic skinned ex redhead ( now silver)and struggle in the heat so I set off thinking I’d prob just bimble for 20-30 mins and come home. But strangely fate conspired and I’d forgotten to flip my podcast back when I got to the end of week 1 last week and I didn’t notice until the warm up ended that it has automatically gone forward to week2, 3 X 15 mins. So I carried on thinking I could just do the first 2 lots.

The first 15 mins was ok as they were mostly in the shade but then after walking for 1 minute I turned and ran across the bridge and had about 10 mins in full sunshine. Then I ran across the old iron bridge and stopped very briefly to take a couple of pics and then carried on under the shade of the trees at the end of the park, which was a blessed relief. So I finished that section by running back and forth in the shade and then I walked up behind the school, which is pretty steep, Incline of 29 metres Garmin says but it felt like Mount Everest and then crossed the round and ran down the rest of the old railway line which was mostly shaded. And then I’d done week and 2 and another 5k. I remembered whilst walking back that I used to get to just over 7k when I’d done the last week of 60 mins running so I’m not too disappointed. At least I’m running again.

So now I’m showered and lying in a heap trying to get the beetroot face to die down. Am I the only one who looks like a beetroot for hours after running???

Way too hard on yourself. That's lovely running in not very helpful conditions. There are ups and downs (mine are all downs at the moment), but you are clocking up some really good runs.

Well done!

You're great limberlou and have been a supportive participant on here for years. No need to feel anything other than being a runner 😁 You're going in the right direction after a long time recovering. Keep out there and even better days are ahead 😊

thanks. I always struggle when it’s hot and just cannot seem to wake up early enough to run when it’s cool.

And exactly what makes you think you're an imposter, limberlou ?!? Seriously! You ran and you're moving toward a 10K with the podcast to boot!

The only possible reason I could see is that you think you have to run 5K in those 30 minutes... And that's just pointing to Couch to 5K not named correctly because Couch to 30min doesn't sound as good...

So, congratulations on completing this run! For seeking out shade and doing it! 🥳

No I meant I’m an imposter cos I’ve only just made it to 5k again. I’m nowhere near 10K again yet . I will get there though 🤞

I feel I shouldn’t quite be on THIS group yet.

Ah! My question still applies 😉 The way I tell myself: As long as my plan is to eventually make it to 10K (again), I belong here 🙃 That goes for you, too, I'd say!

Oh, and for the face, I just came across this post... I've also been there! Totally 🤣 facebook.com/runningat40plu...

Bridge to 10k is for anyone who has finished Couch to 5k (or similar) and wants to carry on running. There’s no need to ever run 10k or even be aiming for that. It’s for people who feel like it fits best with the way they’re running now as well as those building towards 10k…that’s you!

You are totally welcome here and it’s totally the right place to continue your journey to 10k!

Great run and really great to hit 5k again…massive congratulations 🥳
