I have been hoping to run another 10km since thd beginning of the year. I started the New Year doing the NRC 10km but gremlins drove me mad. It was either not registering the run or recording the previous run multiple time. In the first 3 weeks it only registered 9 of 15 runs I had done. Eventually through frustration I abandoned it and thought I can do it myself. We then had three weeks in France and trying to run when the wind was blowing a hooley and every run starts uphill against my normal runs in flat Lincolnshire countryside. The runs therefore waited until we got home.
Over the last 2 weeks the distances have increased and this morning, the weather was still and dry so off I set on a 10km run. There was no expectation on speed just an aim for 10km running to the next village knowing on the way back I could add to the run to complete the 10km but could also finish at 8km. At 6.5km decision made, aiming for 10km and successfully completed in 63.22 minutes. It's not the fastest 10km I have done but the first since the beginning of October and back just in time for lunch with a big smile on my face.

That is a really good pace for 10k, regardless of the fact you that haven’t done one for a while. The ear to ear smile is fully justified! My 10k today was very different! Recovery run pace for me, really cold, incessant penetrating train and water over ankle deep in places. But it did the required job; I will move on to the next week in the NRC HM plan.
Ever thought of training for the next milestone; 10 miles? Looks to be well within your compass. Pop over and see us on Fun beyond 10k if the idea appeals. 🙂
Thank you, it took about 3 years to get from c25k to 10k as I only seem to have one pace, both the outward and return 5ks where as fast as I have run a 5k this year. I really need to learn to slow down so I can run further.
🙂 speeding up was always my problem! The HM plan I use encourages the development of paces for different distances; some of the interval sessions include stretches at mile, 5k, 10k and easy pace (my long run pace). But if your thing is running shorter distances really quickly, that’s definitely a valid choice. 👍
Well done on your 10k and at a great pace too!🙂 It’s great when everything comes together and to get back to distances we haven’t done for a while. I hope your run keeps you smiling all day!🤗
Thank you. I frequently set off with an idea in my head but not necessarily end up doing the plan, I do frequently add on if I am feeling good during the run.
It's a really good idea. I don't think I've ever added on or cut back but I can see that it's a great way of varying things and of being responsive to your body. Definitely going to try it!
