Hello Everyone. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Hi damienair & other park runners, (not) park runners,
It was hard work today with a headwind & a crosswind on the way back. No.2 son had his birthday Vaporfly 3’s to try out & was happy with 19:39, hubby was taking it easy today on his 99th park run coming in at 27:49 & I couldn't catch any of them coming in at 28:04. Maybe, I will get myself some vaporflys 🤣
Well done to you all on your parkrun today. And hope all get to Celebrate with your hubby on his 100th parkrun soon. This morning I will be doing my 171st parkrun, but my 100th at my home parkrun. So I am going to be wearing my 100 parkrun T-Shirt for the first time to mark the occasion.
Drove through sleet and dark clouds to Burnage. All cleared in time for a sunny run although a cold start into the wind. Back to the village for breakfast, watching the hailstones outside. All sunny again to walk home and load the car with the junior parkrun kit just as the dark clouds returned.Good timing all round with the weather.
Morning running friends. 😀 Jenny and Will (son) had considered coming today, but they both backed out. It left me very tempted indeed to do the same, but I couldn’t come up with a legitimate excuse, plus Flossie needed a walk, plus I’ll miss the next three weekends as we’re away on hols. Literally had to go didn’t I?! 😅
Decided on Burnham because it’s a nice place to dog walk afterwards. The wind was picking up and I drove through some heavy showers on the way, but it ended up being one of the nicest runs for a long time. A strong headwind on the way out along the estuary and on the prom, but it was fun and everyone was in good spirits.
Didn’t break a sweat and jogged round in a time of 38:48 Garmin, 39:06 official.
Very very happy I went. Now for some hot cross buns. 😋
Nice one! Nothing like a windy run to clear the head- and all very spring like with sun, wind and showers. Always raises the spirits!!Have a lovely hol.
Thanks Damien, oh they were delicious! It’s criminal how many we get through in this household. But they aren’t allowed after Easter (nor are mini eggs!) 😅
Thanks Jonathan. I’d have been mighty cross with myself if I’d stayed home, and we all know it’s rare that we regret a run. HM Plan starts in 🇫🇷. Nice and early for an October race! 😂
Good morning Damien. My first Saturday morning 5k for a while. Bright Sun and freezing cold wind; welcome to the North East of England! Saturday is now “pick up pace” day in my plan. 34:36 is a start (intervals) followed by stretches and then “coffee to go” for my cool down walk. Trying to avoid sitting around immediately post run. It is always a park run of sorts…the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, complete with musical accompaniment from the returning birds. Good way to start the weekend.
Thanks Cheeky. It felt good this morning and ARH of 140 for intervals is reassuring. I might just repeat this interval run (NRC headspace one) on Saturday mornings, for a few weeks to see whether I can pick up the pace but keep my muscles loose at the same time. 7 or 8k recovery pace run planned for Monday ( my legs will tell me which!).
I enjoyed listening to the birds today at parkrun. I have recently installed this app, although I didn’t use it while running. Perhaps I should try it next time merlin.allaboutbirds.org/
Well done on your run. I love to see the birds busy this time of year. I’ve noticed a couple of Great Tits inspecting one of my Nest Boxes in my back Garden. Fingers crossed they decide to take up residence and become tenants. I hope they realise that there is a housing crisis. 😁
Gorgeous sunny morning. Started well but on the turn back towards Worthing the headwind was brutal. At one point I felt that I was running on the spot like a cartoon character 😁. Anyway I knew I would have to do that again for the final ½ km so was ready for it.
Not had results in yet but it wasn’t going to be a pB day today.
Good afternoon Damien, this morning I took the train but not back to Springburn Parkrun where I was the tailwalker, when I got to the park I met one of the barcode scanners who lives very near to where I live, he offered me a lift in his car back home after I completed the run/walk which was very nice of him, the weather was dry but there were a few light showers before and after the runners finished, walking time was 56:23.
The lady I was walking with wanted to have a PB, her previous personal best was 58:10 just walking around the course, I suggested to her that we have 3 short half a minute slow runs which she agreed to do, so she did get a PB of 56:22 which I am sure she will be very happy about, her daughter who also ran met us with 800 metres to go suggested her mother and me should also have a short sprint at the finishing line so I ran with her, the mother for the last 20 metres,
This morning I did a kind of Milestone run, I did my 100th parkrun at my local home parkrun and it was my 171st parkrun overall. My wife came along with no.2 Son and they walked the course with Ruby. I had a lovely comfortable 5K run and finished in a time of 31:49. It was also my first time to wear my 100 milestone T-Shirt, felt right. We celebrated after with a lovely post parkrun breakfast.
I feel right now to start some interval training. I ran 5K on Friday, Saturday and yesterday. So today I'll do a faster walk and tomorrow I will do some interval training.
To be honest the answer was that I'd ordered a size which would have looked very tight on my to say the least. But now that I've lost 23 lbs it looks right on me. So I will be wearing it a little bit more frequently from now on. I must wear my V25 sometime soon too.
Parkrun number 96 for me. Also number 66 at Chadderton Hall Park.
Very unpredictable weather this morning. It had been sleeting when I got up, with the temperature about 3°C when I was kitting up having slightly overslept. In my defence I had made an over three hour drive back from NW Wales last night.
Two thick layers on top, with slightly padded leggings on, a knitted hat and gloves. I had brought a thin coat just in case the rain looked as if it was going to be heavy.
My usual toilet anxiety (and a revisit there before leaving the house) meant I arrived just in time for the Run Director's speech. A few waves and nods to familiar faces and we were off.
There were about 20 more runners today than usual and it was noticeable that the narrow paths were a bottleneck on the first couple of turns. I'd started near the back as usual. My first lap was pretty slow.
I ended up running the final lap near a lady with a pushchair. The kid inside was saying they were getting cold and she was saying in a few minutes they could go on the swings etc. and they'd warm up. As we were climbing the final S shaped slope the kid was making "quack quack" noises.
Although I did speed up during the final bit I was spent.
Afterwards I hung around chatting with a few people.
One guy had arrived as the tail walkers were starting their third lap and asked if it was OK to run. Apparently he'd been aiming for a Liverpool parkrun but had been caught out by the M62 over the Pennines being shut. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-l...
After clapping in a few dozen who finished after me, it suddenly started hailing heavily. I beat a retreat to my car. Once in the car the sun came out!
Official time: 30:47, 40 of 95. 3rd in my age group.
A month of Saturdays until I'm eligible for a black tee shirt. Unfortunately it's unlikely I'll be running next Saturday.
No running for me today because I had organised a food bank collection at the event. Our runners were incredibly generous and our dining table is groaning with the weight of the donations. Two foodbanks will be the recipients , one for families and one for homeless and living on the streets.
The running community supporting the local community. ❤️
Well done to you Dexy and the team for organising this and super well done to everyone who donated. What an amazing haul of much needed comfort to so many.
My 💯 t-shirt turned up mid week, but a dreadful night’s sleep and a freezing cold, windy morning meant I wimped out! However, Mr S and I are heading over to Ireland in the van in 3 weeks time to drive the Wild Atlantic Way for a month and I have, quite by accident, managed to find 3 campsites for Friday nights which are within 3 miles of a parkrun 🥳🥳 Thinking of taking the bikes so I don’t have to rely on Mr S to get there, although a 9.30 start is a luxury!
Fantastic Sandie. You will adore the Wild Atlantic way. So many beautiful spots along the West Coast of Ireland. Where are you planning to attend? Keep me up to date. I live in Navan over on the East of the Country above Dublin.
We are really looking forward to it. I’ve never been before, so it was really difficult planning where to go. The parkruns I’m thinking of doing are Buncrana, Killarney House and Glen River. I did look at where you are, but sadly we’re not coming near you (Dublin will have to wait for next time too ☹️)
Don't worry about coming here. I was just checking as I could go to you. But it might be a good bit away. Bere Island is meant to be amazing, it's on my bucket list. You have to get a Ferry to the Island and you are then picked up by a minibus on the other side. That would be an amazing experience. I did Killarney House last August. Killarney is lovely.
Funnily enough I have literally just read someone’s tourist report from Bere Island. It does sound amazing, but a bit far from our campsite at Killarney! It would have been great to meet up and I did think about it, but you’re not really on the Wild Atlantic Way 😂 Next time 😁
My first run since last Saturday this morning, following a stomach upset last weekend and a couple of nights away mid-week. Although it was a little chilly at Portsmouth Lakeside with a keen westerly, the sun was shining and the puddles had dried up at last. After last week's disappointing 35.12, today felt much better, finishing in 34.36 - back in the right direction!
I had my 4th Parkrun in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia yesterday morning. While I was not in the first 50% of men in the run, I ran a PB of 32:52min. Pretty proud of that in my 65-69 age group. Autumn has just made herself known so the mornings are a little fresh, although a bushfire kicked off yesterday with a fallen power line just over the hill from me. Four country fire brigades responded and had it under control quickly.
Forgot to post the reply... but my Not Park run was done on Sunday... started off and did 5K in glorious sunshine..5..24 in 45 minutes... first 3k uphill... then finished with another 1K in sleet hail and wind.... Slow and steady may not win the race.. but it gets you there
