I forgot to take pictures today so please be content with the spoils of today’s run, 2 members of the Tempo runs’ team and my new club shirt complete with a run number that has survived the series so far.
The day was nearly a disaster before we were out of the car, TailChaser was having a problem with her shoe. Something in the lining in the heel was rucked up and the shoe was unwearable. Thankfully I remembered my girl guide skill set, found a Swiss army type device in the glove box and cut through some stitching and straightened it out, so that, Cinderella -like, Tailchaser could go to the ‘race’.
We were lucky with the weather as the forecast was full of the storm due to arrive later today. We had a little breeze and some sunshine, as well as temperatures nicely above freezing.
The race was the usual anti-clockwise route, around the village first then up Campden hill. It was a bit more breezy on the top but not too blustery to affect the decent down Larkspur, although a little less mud would have been appreciated, as it made it a bit slippery.
Katnap was his usual super-speedy and once joined by Tailchaser was kind enough to wait for me to cross the line. I really appreciated the cup of tea they had waiting for me. Then it was time to collect our sausages and head for the car. The Kats already knew what size hoodies they wanted and had made sure it was all noted. I had a quick ‘try on’ and added my size to the list. Next month is the last in the series and the hoodies will be waiting, we know the colour but I think I will save that news for next time.
Toad in the hole for tea of course. Let’s see if any one remembered the photo before devouring their dinner!

another brilliant outing for the terrific three. I most confess I haven’t had toad in the hole since leaving home . Maybe I’d better get your trusted recipe and treat UTS. 😂
Absolutely! I think they are ‘Heck’ ones. Us carnivores get the ones made by local butcher and the flavours vary. This month my pack had 2 pork leek and chilli and 2 plain pork ones.
I am OK thanks TailChaser, it was very windy on Sunday night, early Monday morning, the wind has now died down a bit before Storm Jocelyn comes on Tuesday. This morning I checked out my normal 5K running route to see if any fallen trees had blocked my route, none had although there were a lot of small branches and twigs on it, I hope to run 5K on Wednesday morning, I will be careful not to trip over those twigs.
Such a great race report! What a rubbish time to have a shoe problem…great the help was on hand to fix it. It sounds like you all had a wonderful time in different ways. Cup of tea waiting at your end is the best way to finish!!
Well done guys, I did think of you all potentially battling through the elements. It sounds like you were spared. 🙏 But shoe drama? How rude! Great that you unearthed your Girl Guide skills Shakes!
Thank you, too, for giving me a new supper idea. I don’t know about you, but I get so cheesed off cooking the same old dishes night after night, so a good old retro Toad would be a welcome addition. 😋
Cheers Cheeky, girl guide skills are often useful! Just glad the required implement was in the glove box, don’t think I could have broken the stitches with my teeth!! Enjoy your Toad, feel free to add your photos of it here!!
The fact I was there at all was a bit of a miracle cheeky (see massive reply to Linda’s chat post). I would have been so upset if I couldn’t have run at the last minute as my other shoes really weren’t up what that race puts us through.
Thanks. Exciting times here Sue, the Kats have done the hoodie thing a few times so not so exciting for them, I’m really looking forward to getting mine!
Is that Chipping Campden? I grew up near there so am full of admiration that you raced up that hill🏃♀️! Looks a fab Toad too 🐸. Brilliant all round. Look forward to seeing final hoodie.
Thank you Miss W. Toads are now a traditional supper following the sausage run. Next month I might have to try a variation, sausage casserole perhaps?? On the way back to the car we passed a stall selling fresh eggs, sadly sold out by the time I got there but may be early finishers went for sausage, eggs and chips??
The three of you have earned your sausages and hoodies! Distance, hill climbing and cold weather; far too tough for me! You need the Toad in the Hole after that lot. Just amazing 👊
