First 5+ K run (with hills), new route, new shoes

I could have guessed that as soon as these Brooks Nitro shoes popped up as one of the alternatives for my current ones so far, I would probably end up getting them πŸ’œ . I'm a sucker for purple, especially when it's paired with other bold colours. After some half-hearted argument with myself over a few days, I succumbed. Well, they were in a sale at a big discount..... and they're purple πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

Today was the first 5+ K day, 3.5 miles. Instead of going along the flat sea front path, as I usually do, I chose another route, which included hilly bits. That made me even slower than usual and I was also being conservative with the slightly longer distance, but I'm happy to say that although my time was a very long 57:47, I was only reduced to actually walking for about 10 steps in the middle of the longest hilly bit.

The Brooks have been sitting around at home for a couple of weeks. I thought they looked a bit narrow and was a bit nervous. Today I decided to woman up and wear them for the first time, and they were great! Happily, going by people's comments when I first asked about them, I decided to go a full size up from my normal shoe size. Had I only gone half a size up, they would have been too small. As it is, they are just right.

My other decision for today's run was less good. I went for leggings instead of shorts because I'd been feeling fairly cool all day. Ten minutes into the run, I was sweltering!

Well done tackling your first 5k+ run (with added hills!) 😊❀️

Good to hear you love those Brooks trainers. I’m about to start wearing in a pair of sale Brooks Neuro shoes, which have a similar unusual forefoot / heel split on them. After reading their hype, I’m hoping they’ll be good for shock absorption. 😊

Don’t think I’ve ever put my first name in a post here, Eileen, but it’s Melinda not Imelda. πŸ˜‚β€οΈ

Lovely 'noo shoo's'! Also, well done on your run - you will reap the rewards for tackling hills, I promise!πŸ™‚

Wow, look at the colours on those shoes! gorgeous. And I made the same mistake as you and wore leggings and got hot on my run yesterday.

Well done for the run and tackling hills - they are good for you in the long run (no pun intended!)

I do hills in my shorter runs and I think they do me good. I'll save the hills on longer runs as I'm still relatively new to running and I don't want to put myself off just yet. πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘
