Here I am on this first, here, very, very cold morning of December, The first day of meteorological Winter and a brand new month!
Thank you so much to Folkylass for hosting a wonderful Quest in November... I did manage to stay motivated and mainly on track... the last week of running was tricky and I am still waiting to Run 2 and 3 of Week 9, C25K repeat! Wind, weather and Mr OF and his appointments have conspired against me ! The runs however are patient!
It may well be, that I re-Graduate on the very date I graduated, December 17th, eight years ago!!!
Okay...that is me... but I and we, want to hear from YOU!
SO!
What is the Quest?
The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.
You need to be a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:
* To run three times a week
* To slowly increase distance
* To train for a specific race
* To add strength and flex exercises to your weekly routine
* Yoga goals
This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is comment below with something like: “I would like to join the quest”, or, “count me in! I would like to...”
If you have any questions about anything ….just ask !
Please remember too, to take extra care of yourselves in the colder conditions... You are ALL worth it!
Oldfloss x
P.s.
Photo is from an original painting I did a while ago... Winter Birches... see, salt isn't just for fish and chips!

Glad to have you back Oldfloss 😀That painting is beautiful, I love Silver birch tree, I've got two in my garden and at this time of year they usually have several Goldfinch searching for seeds in their branches.
I'm literally sat in bed looking out at the cold morning and printing off a nature inspired Advent Calendar that each day inspires you to look for natural things outside, then draw, paint or photograph them, it free from an artistcalled Suzy Sharpe.
As to my quest it'll be virtually the same as last month...
Good morning to YOU! dijep ... I am doing the same... sitting in bed, looking out at the cold morning too!
Oh, that Advent Calendar sounds lovely... I am going to take a look right now! Thanks for that!
Your Quest sounds to be a good, achievable one! A tad like mine maybe,, although 10K for me will be too big an ask at the moment!
I do feel the S and F will help you with your goals...and I have just posted a set of ideas on there... a bit of fun for the weeks leading up to December mayhem time!
The idea of a physio' session too... I think our bodies need an awful lot of TLC, in these colder days.... thanks for sharing your Quest!
Thank you for the welcome November went like a flash!!! I cannot believe it myself! I feel a few of us are lacking in the run stakes for all sorts of reasons... but we are here and we will support each other well!
Those goals seem sound...Running twice , walking too and some Pilates... that is going to set you up nicely.. and... if you have looked at the Changing Room Chat... shopping exercises there this week from me!
Its a win, win... and thank you.. I love those birches! Looking forward to your posts! Loving the holly too... epitomizes Winter! x
🍏What a really beautiful painting Floss. Thanks for December hosting & look forward to your Graduation run in due course! Thanks too to Folkylass for hosting in November & inspiring me to keep going with goals for the holiday runs.
We arrived home safely after a long & tiring trip. Pleased to say I achieved my holiday Quest! Now…
🍏I need to get out and run today in spite of my sluggish body & the beautiful snow. ⛄️
🍏 Get back into my running/exercise routine this coming week with a longer run once a week.
BIG yawn... you have come a Looooooong way. Rest up, get some gentle exercises in, maybe that little run and when you are ready...get back onto the chosen track!
Good morning to you.Just what I needed to read today.
Between one thing and another ( otherwise known as "life") I have been less consistent with my running. I am in need of some accountability so wish to commit to a at least 15k per week spread over a minimum of 2 runs.
Thank you again for the motivation to keep moving!
Life can get in the way... and does! But... here you are and here I am to keep an eye on you! At lease two runs sounds great... maybe three could give you less pressure, but you know what feels right for you!
Thank you for hosting this month & to Folkylass for last month.
I thought this date rang a bell 🤔, aside from it being the 1st December (obviously!), it was on this day in 2019 that I graduated from C25K. I did it in style by entering a local Santa run in aid of the local Fire Station, which saw me slip sliding around a very very muddy course. Needless to say they haven't done it since (the local sports club weren't impressed with the boggy field!).
Anyway I digress. And back to the Quest.
Aiming to run up to 2 times a week
Keep up with the strength exercises 2 or 3 times a week
Yoga or Pilates.
Need to get myself in gear. The mojo has been lacking and self care has gone to the bottom of the pile so shall gather it back up and hope for a more motivated week ahead.
Hello!!!! Well done you... and HAPPY RUNNIVERSARY!!!! Good to see you! Mud free I hope!
Quest goals, simple, sound and achievable...
Motivation... well... I will watch our for you and your posts, and call you if you don't show...lack of self care... I am with you on that... we can work on that together...I shall add it to my, yet to be arranged, goals...
Hi Oldfloss , that's a wonderful painting, you are so talented 🤩
The biggest challenge this weather is getting out at all, isn't it?
I'll keep things very simple. Not going to commit to individual distance for runs or styles of running, if the fields are cold, icy and boggy even a short distance will be a challenge. Having said which, as an optimist I'm hoping they'll dry up and warm up at some time.
So, my Quest is to at least equal the distance I covered in December 2021, 25.38 km. I did about 4km less last year in case you're wondering.
If and when I reach that I'll consider revising upwards.
Yes indeed, the biggest challenge is getting out there! I sat in bed this morning.. white over outside with a hard thick frost and every surface like a skating rink!
What a great quest goal... how realistic and how kind you are being to yourself too. I have just posted regarding self care in C25K and this sums it up...I think that it is a super goal!
Please do keep us posted and I will watch for your posts. x
That's a lovely picture! I'm aiming for at least two runs a week, aiming to slowly increase distance. And to actually do some regular pilates rather than just talking about it....
Went for a very cold run today - 40 mins running which is my longest time yet. I came back with a smile on my face!
I'm seriously thinking about doing a parkrun two weeks from now. After all I ran/jogged 7K by myself yesterday and another 4K at snail pace today, so I might as well. No?
I have been following a training program for a 5K race for ten weeks. I arbitrarily set the date for the race to be on Sunday 17 December. Point is, I never intended to actually race, I just wanted a program set up for me by the computer. - You can't actually lie to software, can you? -
Today I've started to think seriously about running on Saturday 16th, the day before. I just have to tweak the program. Not sure if I'll do it yet. Depends on the weather (ice, snow).
Thanks for your comments 🙂👍 I've realised that it may not be a good idea to achieve two firsts in one go. I should just try to run a few even and solid 5K all by myself before attempting a parkrun. I know I can.
The only thing that's kept me from it so far is this training program with heart rate zones that I'm supposed to stay in for x number of minutes and then switch. Or else the watch starts to nag real annoyingly. Time to take a break from that - soon.
Life is definitely getting in the way for me lately with a poorly husband needing more help with his self-employed business and now my youngest son has been diagnosed with oral Crohn’s disease. 😢😞
My runs have dwindled to one a week or fortnight so my quest is hopefully a gentle, achievable one of running at least twice a week. No pressure on distance, I just want to reignite the habit of getting out there regularly.
Good luck with your quests everyone, I look forward to reading all about it 😊
Oh my goodness.... this is so worrying for you. I empathise completely...those we love are so, so precious and keeping ourselves fit and strong although necessary, can be tricky to manage!
Simply, do what you are able... even the smallest exercise slot, can impact greatly and provide valuable time for you, I have just posted a post on this on the C25K Forum. I know that I am trying very hard to be kind to me, at the moment!
Running twice a week seems like a good goal, but...if it does not happen, then some relaxed gentle exercises may fit the bill... take care and we shall watch for your posts xxx
You certainly can... plenty of time to have fun getting ready for that run too! Where are you running it... I did a Race for Life at the Caernarfon location... superb!
This has been my biggest running year since I started in 2020. I've run 428k, compared to 407k in 2021. I really want to hit 450k by December 31st.
Only 22k so should be easy but the best laid plans...I couldn't run this weekend because of too much snow where I live in Germany, then I'm away for a weekend so the barriers could stack up if I'm not careful. But I'm back in the UK soon for a few weeks so shouldn't have too many excuses not to finish the year strong.
Bit late here this week but thank you Oldfloss for hosting again and best of luck with your 30 minute runs!
This month marks the end of my first year of running. I took up C25K on January 15th 2023. On Friday 1st December I bettered 30 minutes in the 5k for the first time, which I'm over the moon about!
I'm closing in on the next distance objective of 13.1 miles. So that is my only Quest this month. In November I hit 10 miles for the first time and I will aim to add 1 mile per weekly long run until I hit that target (going off my half-marathon plan for the first time since I started it.)
I think that would be an amazing end to the year.
If I achieve it, I will then pull the trigger on Colchester half-marathon in March and return to my half-marathon training plan at the 10 weeks to go point from week 1 of January.
Hello and thank you.. 4 inches of snow and freezing fog over the weekend, has not aided my efforts... maybe this week!
Oh gosh.. a Runniversasry ! Blimey.. that has whizzed by! Your OR too, brilliant start to the new month!
That first 10 miler...gosh, isn't that special? I remember mine well !! I feel sure that with your determination and the fact that you listen to your body too, will guarantee your success. Weather of course permitting!
That HM beckons... I am so excited for you... I shall watch for your posts! x
Thank you Oldfloss ! Hope the weather improves for you! Yes, the year has whizzed by, it doesn't seem long ago that first 20 minute continuous run felt like such a milestone (and it is!) There's always another starting line and another challenge!
