Here I am again... turning up everywhere, like a bad penny
It's the first week of the July Quest - please feel free to join
in with the fun
What is the Quest?
The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.
I ask that you are a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:
★ To run three times a week
★ To slowly increase distance
★ To train for a specific race
★ To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine
This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is comment below with something like:
I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in! I want to ..............
At the end of the Quest, there will be a certificate for you to download and keep!!
Please, do make sure you take care during the warmer weather....things are really hotting up!
Wishing you a wonderful week of safe and happy running! 💥

I think my July quest has to be more stretching and core strength work. I do one Pilates class a week and I might try to find a 2nd one as I’m just not doing this on my own. I’ll Keep up the running which I am loving. I may, just maybe, do a trail run 10km on July 21st. Am Nervous about it though.
Hi there! I’d like to join the quest! I’ve just graduated, and want to continue running three times a week, to start doing Parkrun and Junior Parkrun with my granddaughter. 😁
Hello YOU! I was in Wheaton Aston the other day and you popped into my head! How are you????
You can join us with pleasure! 3 runs plus strength work sounds fabulous... take a peek at the Strength and Flex site.. it has loads of new ideas and links now Realfoodieclub and UnfitNoMore are doing amazing things for us on there... !
You are very welcome... well done on those goals... bingo wings...indeed... ! I have lost mine, since small runner in training arrived... picking her up when she was smaller, has worked wonders! And now she is heavier...phew!
Thanks!! Yes I think my 9 month old grandson is helping with the toning a bit, but there is alot of bingo in my wings! The (small) downside of losing 5 stone! 😊
Hi Floss! Reporting in for duty! Although it may be a bit tricky... I am spending the whole of July in a hotel so I'd like to join the Quest to see if I can keep motivated. The hotel appears to have a fab gym, and a 25m pool so my goals will be to swim at least twice a week, and to do three sessions in the gym every week. I will also be trying to keep up with my HM training, most likely on the dreadmill. Yuk. As I've just written that down it doesn't look very achievable, but we will see. Fingers crossed!
Hello!! July in a hotel!!! That sounds very high powered posh!!!
Lots of sound goals there too..the pool and gym sound great...treadmill not so..but needs must..I had to use my treadmill for my HM training in January. It serves it's purpose..just see how it goes...and keep us posted please 😊🤽♀️
Do you have any tips for HM training on the treadmill, Floss? I am dreading it, to be honest. It is boring, and I get a bit travelsick My plan is to do 45 minutes in the morning and 45 in the evening, if I have to. I think the pollution will be too high to run outside... and I'm not sure people do.
Fantastic Oldfloss. I’ve also quested on marathon forum- not that I’m going anywhere past 10 miles. I know my limits . Oops didn’t I say that at 5k? And 10k?
Well I am assuming you are a Graduate of C25K? No sure how long you have been running either... So... a short run.. 3K ish... ( ( that would be my speed run)... a 30 minute run or so.. which would be 5K or thereabouts ... and then a long, slow, see where you get to, run ( obviously you build up to this... ), my long run usually on a Sunday morning, can be anything from 90 minutes onwards...
I haven't been around here for a while, but could do with having a goal to stick to. I'd really like to get up to 7K; I've been struggling to get to 7K for months!
Plan some mixed runs maybe... a lovely short run.. a 30 minute or so.. and then a lovely longer slower run... It is the long slow runs that build up distance and sometimes speed
Maybe in your goals include regular strength and stamina work... that is what will get you to the distances you want
Thanks! I do mix in shorter runs as well (and some strength training), but every time I try to up the distance some relatively minor injury crops up and sets me back.
My goals will be carrying on from last month, with the Strava Race to the Moon challenge helping me keep my mileage up... we have until 20th July, I have fallen behind a bit.
*Short and longer runs at least twice a week. I still have a long way to go, but will have fun trying😊
Will be interesting to see how my knee feels after a week of no runs... there was a small niggle in my right knee which started recently (I feel it's because of the hillier route I'm training on, specifically the downhill bit jarring it) I read Tasha's post this morning about an IT band issue, and the replies were useful...👍
*I will do S and F core work twice a week on non-running days (chart on fridge, plus posting exercise time on Strava for motivation)
*edit..forgot to mention planks on running days 😣
*I am intending to run my first Parkrun! Yes, at last! I have found one quite close by that I fancy trying. Its the Frimley Lodge one. Canal path and field. Will let you know when I'm doing it, but hopefully this month....
Wow.. there are some really great goals there...! Plus a Park run too...which sounds delightful! I have had a peek and it looks wonderful!
I think you are going to be fighting fit after this Quest... you will be leaving me behind for sure... do keep us posted please my friend... and do watch that knee! xxxx
OOH a ParkRun. I have yet to do one. I am looking forward to reading your run report. I hang my head in shame when I read you are planning planks and core work. I need to follow your example. Good luck with your quest
My nearest one is in Galway city and I don't want to go there on a Saturday morning. I've found one near my parents so maybe I can combine a visit to them with an early morning run. I'm gonna get a barcode!
I failed my quest for June so I would like to re-quest it for July. It was to complete parkrun without stopping or walking. The last one of June was really hot so I didn’t go, but I did manage several 5k runs without stopping so I think I should be able to do it. I think I have been pushing too hard and trying to run too fast, which is making me tire faster and then needing to stop or walk. This morning I slowed it right down and did 6km without walking.
Hi, Oldfloss et al. 👍😊 Family has gone back to their own lives so the Quest should be good for me to get back to moving onwards, at least a bit. I’m aiming for 3 runs a week with one of them gradually extending time. And (ulp) I really do need to get into the strength & flex, so will try to use the month to work out a good half hour routine that I feel I can stick to.
I graduated on 10th June, did I consolidation run then went to Cornwall for 2 weeks! Since coming back I've done 2 consolidation runs of 35mins. I can't get GPS on my phone so I have no idea of my pace or distance. My aims are -
- To purchase and learn how to use a running watch to measure pace and distance and plan routes and improve on both.
I have been increasing the time I run for each week. At 37 minutes now. I want to increase by 10% each week. Should be at 50 minutes by the end of the month and then to do the park run!
Wow Floss, you starting this has brought a lot of Questors out into the open suddenly …..
To put on the proper record my targets for the month, already set out on RFC's end of June thread:
1. Extend my long slow run to a new record 18k - managed 16.09k, aka 10 miles, last month. Hopefully paced by Dexy5 for the first 10k or so.
2. Extend my "race pace" run to 13k, target time 71'30" (5'30"/k) - last month 12k in 65'.
3. On the treadmill, run continuously for 2k at 13kph (4'36"/k) as part of a 5k interval session - last month did this as 4 * 500m bursts, this time might have to be 2 * 1k.
The first two are all about the Great South in October (90 mins would be so so nice ), the last one to do with trying to get a sub-24 parkrun in sometime this summer (last achieved last September I think). Hopefully I'll achieve one a week (but not this week after a week eating and drinking far far away).
But you know exactly what you are doing...looking at your stats, it all seems feasible..(if beyond my realms of feasebility )!
You had a great holiday so after your recovery from those hedonistic delights..you are on you way..Please keep us posted.. I shall watch your progress with interest!
All sounding really good... I can empathise over the park run.. I am a lone runner and did one to get me used to running with people before my HM.... It was terrific fun and so friendly...
This was my post... ( It may give you a giggle)...
I have done others since...including one where some friends from the forum travelled to run there with me...( It was fabulous fun )... and although I prefer lone running, they are great fun
We have talked about mixing the runs up too so that is a great target... The next week post goes up tomorrow... so watch this space
