🍏The Great North Run

Any one running this year? Anyone aspiring to run it next year? I am certainly not ready for a HM challenge but did enjoy an early morning, approximately half hour, run along this tow path. I will certainly be out on route cheering on a few runners that I know.

Hope all you Monday runners get in a good one today & the weather is as perfect as it is here in the North East! X

Me! I’m excited and a bit nervous because of my IT band issues. Hopefully I’ll get through without pain. That’s just my bad luck though. I can’t believe how soon it is. It might be worth asking over on Marathon-I’ve seen a few others doing it too.

This event was a total dream for me-I remember watching it on the tv years ago and thinking how much fun it looked. At that point I just didn’t think I was built for running and I’d never, ever get there. Couch to 5k changed all that. It’ll just be amazing to be on the start line, however it goes. I’ve heard the atmosphere is amazing!

You might be surprised at how taking on a half marathon goes. I’ve followed the Nike Run Club plan a few times now that’s been great. You could build your long run really slowly and take plenty of cutback weeks. Walk/running is also a great option to tackle the longer distance. If you’re tempted, what have you got to lose? You’ve got an army of run buddies ready to cheer you on!

🤣 not tempted yet but who knows! So glad you will be doing it & after your speedy Gonzales run … you certainly are in tip top shape!! I will be there out in the shadows cheering you on! Xx

😂😂😂 I definitely felt like Speedy Gonzales. I do really love a short and speedy run. It’s a great feeling suddenly feeling fit. I know I’ve worked hard to get back after the injury problems and it’s wonderful to feel it in the legs.

After this HM is done, I’m going to look for a 10k and concentrate on that distance for a while, I don’t really love the longer training runs and especially through the winter, keeping to an hour (or a little bit more) will be nice.

Thanks so much for the cheers!

Good luck with your GNR. One piece of advice if you’ve not done it before - if you get a choice, take the low route to the Tyne Bridge. Everyone uses the tunnel to shout and listen to the echoes. It’s amazing.

Fantastic-thank you! I’ll definitely try that! Thanks so much for the good wishes too! ❤️❤️❤️

No problem. You’ll have a blast. Don’t forget to look up for the Red Arrows too.

I will be cheering you on MU! You are going to be fantastic I just know it. If you do get the choice of taking the low route to the Tyne Bridge ….shout out a “Wey aye Man! “…… for me please. I was born in Newcastle upon Tyne and I always watch GNR and I shall return to my native town and home one day.😂😂😂x🥰

😂😂😂😂🥰

Call us all pet & you are half way there! I love it when I have been away & arrive back at the airport to hear that friendly Geordie accent! 🤩💕

❤️❤️❤️ I can’t wait! I haven’t been for years. It’s a bit of a trek from the south west. Super excited.

“Eeeee pet that’s champion”! 😂😂😂. I haven’t been back home for a good few years but I’ve still got my Geordie accent. I am so proud to be a Geordie and always will be. I love it when I hear a Geordie accent and I just have to stop and engage in conversation about which part of Geordie land their from 😂😂😂😂😂.

Have a great time MU …you’ll smash it 👍👍🥰x

GTFC , Tasha99 and MissUnderstanding , if you want to meet up (and have a guided tour to the best spots in Newcastle), do let me know. I’d love to catch up with you all IRL. Thinking of being on the course too, so I’ll have to get my pens out to make a sign for all of you.

I'm running the GNR this year. Big gulp. First HM and excited and terrified in equal measure 😁 I've got my last long run, 10 miles, on Thursday then will taper. I was lucky enough to get a ballot place and decided to run for Guide Dogs so the chance to meet a couple of their gorgeous dogs at the end will get me round 😍 I decided to buy a hydration vest in the end instead of a belt; I've run many times in it to get used to it and I'm still finding secret pockets in it! More jelly babies it is then 😂

And I was told to keep left at the start, which I think means you go into the oggy oggy oggy tunnel???? 🤷🏼‍♀️😂
