Great North Run prep, 20km long run

So with just a few weeks to go I have decided my prep is going to consist of a medium length run midweek (between 6 and 8km) with a long run on the weekend.

After persistent rain up to about midday here in the North East it had just about stopped as I set out.

My route consisted of 2 x 8km circuits from Dinnington down towards Wideopen, then on through Hazelrigg skirting Havana Nature Reserve, past the airport and back to Dinnington.

First 16km were pretty good and steady though not as quick as my long run 2 weeks ago but I made the mistake of stopping for a drink at that point and found it very hard getting the legs going for the last 4km.

Still, another long run in the bank.

Run happy, run safe.

Wow, that’s some going. Makes the 7k that I'm doing tomorrow look a bit lame 😂 How long do you find you can go without a drink of water?

With it being a loop I had a water bottle stashed behind a tree at the 8km mark!!!

Ah cunning plan. I never take water with me, but I'll be getting up to the hour mark in the next week or so, so perhaps I'll take a bottle.

Unless it's hot I don't think you really need to, I did 18k 2 weeks ago without water as long as you have drunk plenty beforehand.
