I enjoyed my first big 10K Great Scottish Run this morning, it was never going to be a PB and it wasn't, I got the bus into Glasgow and got to the part my 80 minutes pacer was, she came from Edinburgh 44 miles away and had to leave there for the run at 6am, the gun for the run went off at 9 o'clock on the dot, I went over the starting pad exactly four minutes later, my pacer was really nice playing music on her music machine throughout the run, there is s a hill not far from the start, I was determined not to walk up that hill which I didn't, just after 1 K which me and my pacer ran in 8 minutes we passed the headquarters of Scottish Power, my energy provider β then through parts of Glasgow I don't know, at just over 3K the route goes on to the Kingston Bridge, over the River Clyde this is part of the M8 motorway , this lane was of course closed for the runners, once over the bridge there were plenty of spectators cheering the runners, I had my name on my BIB, there were plenty of well done Alan from the cheering crowds, got to the 5K mark in exactly 39:43 minutes, 8K in around 64 minutes but for the last 50 metres my pacer asked me to *go for it" which I did, I sprinted to the finishing line getting me a overall time of 1:19:21 which compares to my PB of 3 weeks ago at my local Community Cumbernauld 10K of 1:07:38, nevertheless I enjoyed both those two just the same.

AlMorr The Great Scottish Run
Al, congratulations πππ that sounds like you really enjoyed the race, π
Well done Al! Sounds like you really enjoyed that 10K. ππππ
Thanks Jools, they have now corrected my time on the official results page, yes I did enjoy my run, especially running over the River Clyde on the closed to traffic lane on the M8 motorway.
Well done AlMorr. Yes that hill not good for the start of the race it looks very steep. Hope you get your time sorted outππ
Thanks Doris8, yes there were several people walking up that hill but I was determined to keep running, it's not as steep as the hill at Dunfermline parkrun which I do walk up on parkrun day, by the way my time has been corrected.β π
Well done Al, sounds great! I'm struggling to get past 3km right now and really miss a 10k run. Great run and times too ππ»
Well done on what sounds like a fantastic 10k
Thanks Tessa66, actually I was running slower than my natural running pace, on average my 5k times are around 33 minutes, my average 10K times are around 72 minutes but as this was a huge run with thousands running I decided to run with the 80 minute pacer, at times I was running ahead of the 80 minutes pacer and had to slow down until she caught up with me, however, with only 50 metres to the end she told me ".to go for it", I sprinted, passing a lot of people on those last 50 metres gaining a sub 80 minutes time of 39 seconds.
πππ€© Oh Al wow you are awesome!! Lovely run over by he bridge when itβs closed to traffic!! Glad π you enjoyed it and had such an amazing pacer! Donβt you have great admiration for these volunteers!! Enjoy the celebration π₯³
ππ
Well done AlMorr , what a fantastic race you had too! Sounds like you got on really well with your pacer! Amazing work! π π π
Well done Al; you absolutely nailed it and you clearly enjoyed it too. Two hours? you could have finished the race, downed a fish supper and a chocolate swirl in that time π.
A day for you to remember with satisfaction. ππ₯π
They corrected that wrong result very quickly BC66, I could have gone faster, most of my 10K's are around 73 minutes, in fact 3 weeks ago I ran my quickest 10K in a time of 67:38 at my local community Cumbernauld 10K, that route is very familiar to me, however, running on a strange route I thought it wise to go with the 80 minute pacer and only ran fast for the last 50 metres, anyway the pacer was playing great music most of the way, I WAS going to leave her at 7K but the music was so good I kept with her untill the last 50 metres.
Iβm really glad to hear that you enjoyed your first official Great race AlMorr . It is amazing running on closed roads with so many people isnβt it? Can you post a picture of you medal and t-shirt ? We love seeing them on here . Would you like to do it again?
You are an inspiration, congratulations on a superb run πππ₯
Fantastic AlMorr congratulations on a super run πββοΈππππ₯³π
Well done ππ½
Fantastic achievement πππ
Well Done AlMorr π
Well done AlMorr for a fabulous run. Itβs great that you had that pacer with you for much of the time ππ».
Well done Al! πππ₯³ Iβm sure the atmosphere on that one was fabulous. The crowd can make a big difference to how you feel. Hope the legs were ok the next day.
Congratulations Al π
Congratulations Al! Great βGreatβ run!
Thanks MissUnderstanding, I have always wondered why you call yourself MissUnderstanding?
I enjoyed reading that so hope you enjoyed the run. Well done on conpleting in that time! π
Iβm so pleased you enjoyed your 10k Al, going over the river Clyde on what would normally be the motorway must have been an interesting feature of the race! I hope you got some good looking bling! Have you listened the recent programmes about running on Radio4? It was the last one today and included a piece on parkrun.
Yes I did listen to all three episodes of *On The Run*on Radio 4, today they mentioned parkrun and running on trails, It was good running on the closed lane of the motorway over the River Clyde, I could look down at the Clydeside walkway where I run a 3K maintenance run on a Saturday morning when I don't go to parkrun, lol I actually travel 14 miles from where I live to run a 3K, it's a change from running around the park a two minutes walk from my house,
My run yesterday was scheduled to start at 08:58 , however, it started at exactly 9 o'clock with the start gun being fired by a rugby player from Glasgow Warriors who also plays for Scotland but it only took me and my pacer 6 minutes to get to the starting pad, that was good considering the thousands who were running, my pacer really got it correct to where we stood before the run began, good luck to you if you are running or volunteering at The Great South Run
