Calling all you wonderful eventers! Itβs time to tell us about any races you have coming up in September.
It doesnβt matter what distance or what country you're in, weβd love to hear from you. Fun runs (arenβt they all? π€), once-in-a-lifetime runs, a regular race for you, a virtual race, we'd love to hear about them all. Perhaps youβve never entered a race before and this will be your first or perhaps youβre a regular racer and this is yet another date in your calendar!
Tell us about your event so your amazing VRBS can fluff up the pompoms and send loads of virtual support to you for your race day.
Please give us the name and date of the event and a link to the website if possible. Weβll then add you onto our September spreadsheet in readiness for a pompom cheer the Friday beforehand. Such fun, such great support π₯³
Take a look at the spreadsheet here to see what your VRBs have booked:
Hello Linda and all, UpTheStanley and I are entered in the New Forest Marathon 10k, on 10 September, which has become an annual tradition. We just love running through the forest and the event is like a mini festival with music, food and sellers of runny stuff. It is a full family affair with distances from marathon down to a woodland walk. Hope to see you and Mudita11 there too.
We also got cheap entries into the Vitality 10000 on 24 September . We donβt know if we will do it yet as we will also be working up to the Great South Run in October, and it may be a race too far.
Fabulous! I'll add the New Forest (very much look forward to seeing you again) and leave the Vitality 10000 for now - let us know if you decide to do it π
Weβve made a decision that that running the Vitality 10k will be a race too far while we are building up to the Great South Run. However, London Marathon Events have kindly said we can still claim a medal and T-shirt if we run 10k at home. So UpTheStanley and I will do just that. No pressure on speed and the ability to make a longer run of it as we build up our distance. Win win, especially as I love the colour of this years T-shirt.
Good luck. Pompoms waving. Currently lying listening to a metal bin blowung around the garden! It's 6am and wild and wet out there. And I have 14k to do yet π. The weather is dire...
Morning Linda. Iβm running the incredibly good fun Cheddar 10k Road Race on 16th September (lucky I checked because I could have sworn it was on the 17th! π )
Itβs an undulating 2.5k at the top of the Cheddar Gorge, then 7.5k straight down, watching out for wild goats on the way down.
I have my first ever 10K EVENT RACE coming on Sunday 3rd September, it's my local Cumbernauld 10k, part of the course is around the same route as my midweek 5K or 10K run, the 10K on that day will be my 44th, next Wednesday I intend to run my 43rd 10K on part of that event race course.
Wow Al, it's hard to believe that is your first 10k event race. I know you have done so many 10ks and some of them have been virtual events I think? But a real 10k race - that should be special. Wishing you oodles of luck and lots of fun! π₯°
Thanks Hedgehogs123, tomorrow Wednesday I intend to run my 43rd 10K on the non road part of the 10K I will be running on the 3rd September, kilometers 1,7,8,9 and 10 are off road or along a pavement on a very quiet road, so part of my run tomorrow will be on the same route and the same direction as well. π ππΎ
Buoyed up by that success I headed out this morning and polished off a half marathon. I set out to run it really slowly as I just wanted to know I could manage the distance
Still sat sitting, sipping tea and eating a homemade muffin π§π«βοΈ
Epsom salts bath next up then Iβm off out for a meal I could do with a nap to be honest π
Haha, the bit about your hair made me laugh!!So, you know what you need to do, get yourself into a positive frame of mind, so that your brain doesn't try and take over telling you how hard it's going to be because of last time.
I've had some really tough races just lately and I think I let my brain take over. However at the cake run, ( can't you tell it's my fave race??!π) a couple of weeks ago, I kept telling myself I can do this and the race will be fun!! Ok, my time wasn't as fast as I can do , but it wasn't such a disaster that my brain was trying to persuade me it would be!
Apparently when things used to get tough for Paula Radcliffe, she used to count to 100 3 times and then she knew she'd done another mile but wasn't focusing on how hard it was. Don't know if it works but worth a try!! π€π€
Great North Run for me too next month π³ September 10th. More nervous about travel plans at this stage, but Iβm sure the nerves will kick in soon enough.
Hello everyone, I have decided to come out of my reading posts only phase to write a post for a change.π
Iβm doing the Pβtit Train du Nord half marathon in the Laurentians in Quebec, Canada on September 30th.
It is a straight line course on a former railway line with a vertical drop of 107 meters. The slope is supposed to be gentle . It should be beautiful with the start of the autumn colours. It has the reputation of being a fast course. There are many who BQ in the marathon.
I was signed up last year but was unable to run it due to a hip injury on my part and my partnerβs hip replacement surgery a week before the race. He has recovered quite well and my hip is doing okay too.
So far my training is going alright so Iβm hopeful for this year. Some friends did it last year but Iβm on my own this year.
My goal is to enjoy myself and the scenery and make the cut off time of 2:45.
Hi Linda ! Well Iβve got another virtual run itβs 10k coming up in September its theβ¦β¦..Virtual Vitality London 10,000. This is the email that I received
Thank you for entering the Virtual Vitality London 10,000 β we canβt wait to see you take part on the route of your choice any time from 16 September to 24 September 2023.πππββοΈπββοΈππ
Thatβs brilliant ! Iβm so pleased that you are doing it too. Now then I havenβt actually thought about the day but as I normally run on a Tuesday that would be great for me. We could support each other virtual ? What do you think? πππ
Absolutely , brilliant idea! I normally run with my running club on a Tuesday but I thought I'd do this and then run with them on Thursday. be good if we set off at the same time, Im off that week, so can do any time that suits you!ππ
Oky doky! I can only run in the morning as I find thatβs better for me would that be ok for you ? and also Iβve never tried running in the afternoon or evening so now Iβm just so used to running in the morning. I donβt mind what time though. Oh goodness Iβm so excited π€£π€£π€£
Thatβs fab and its exactly the time I always go for my runs give or take a couple of minutes so that will be great. Iβll look forward to that even more!ππππππ₯°x
Frizzbomb67 Iβve just seen that youβre running it too. Thatβs brilliant. What day are you running? Hedgehogs123 and I are going to virtually run it on the morning of the 19th a Tuesday youβre quite welcome to join us if you want to ? πππx
And for you too! Being retired now I forget other people still have to workππ. What is the colour of the t-shirt ,is it like a blue and a pink design o top? I think Iβve seen it and it looks good. Vitality always have good t shirts.
Anyway good luck on your run and enjoy every minute of it.ππππx
Hi everyone, Great North Run on 10 September for me too π got my bib and ready to party at the back π₯³ really looking forward to meeting Elvis who apparently will be singing somewhere on the course yaaay π€·πΌββοΈ last long run on Monday before I start to taper. So glad now that I did the Great Manchester Run in May to have some idea of larger numbers running and crowds etc as this is the bit that's making me most nervous rather than the run itself! Good luck to everyone in your events π x
Thank you π people on the GNR training forums who have run it before all say the support along the route is fabulous. They can't quite agree on how flat it is tho π³ a long slight incline seems to catch some out. Needless to say that scared me enough to get me chugging up a few hills in training π±π€£π€£
Hello Linda! Just the one booked for Katnap and I at the moment, the Stratford Big Half on 3rd September. We are also planning to sign up for the Bedford Autodrome 20 miler on 24th September as it fits in nicely with the marathon plan but it depends on not having a clash with other things at the moment. Itβs a bit dull at 6 laps of the autodrome but at least it will be with others.
Okey dokey, here we go Linda, last pre-Amsterdam race signed up for by Katnap and myself , 20 miles around and around and around and around and around and around the Bedford Autodrome on 24th September!: runthrough.co.uk/event/runn...
After those, I am definately having a rest as my energy levels are just not there and I have struggled at each race just lately, even ParkRun seems a challenge at the moment, so just want to concentrate on slow long runs with no pressure and in cooller weather!
September 21st-27th - Masters European Championships in Pescara in Italy.
I am running for Team GB in the 100m, 200m and hopefully selected for the Team GB 4x100 metres team.
Thereβs over 9000 athletes from all over Europe in attendance.
I was going to save this for a separate post nearer the date, but Iβll put it here. My club have sponsored my kit, some of which has already arrived. See photo π
Oh no oh no oh no.....what have I done? Here I am floundering and I've only entered the New Forest Marathon 10k I'm stunned, but the New Forest is beautiful and I'm hoping I can jeff it if i cant run it all. And it was Mudita11 suggested it!
And whatever you decide up feont, you can always change your mind on the day π I am going with the aim of enjoying the run in beautiful scenery. Nothing more π₯°
Thats what Im thinking, whatever happens I am looking forward to being in the New Forest, its been years, I could walk it in about 2 hours so any running will be a bonus, Im going to try out my trail shoes later, I've hardly worn them
I might being both just in case π€£π€£π€£ if theres lots of rain before i might wear the trail shoes but if its dry I'll wear the road ones, I'm in a bit of a flap about it, planning going on in my head, but mostly excitement
Hi LindaLike TailChaser & Katnap I'm also running Stratford Big Half next Sunday. I'm also running in warringtonrunningfestival.com/ and running the 10K. As a club we are travelling down by coach. It's a free balloted event (apart from paying Β£6 for your run pack to be posted out to you).
I wasnβt going to enter the Stratford 10k (Sept 3rd) and then my plans changed. Yesterday I looked at the website expecting it to be sold out, but no, still a few spaces left. So while Katnap and Tailchaser (and Time Lord too) speed around the half I will plod along the 10k. (Tailchaser has written about it down below).
Hi Linda, I am running a 10k Canicross event in Dulverton, Somerset, Sunday September 17th. My first event for two years!! Where has that time gone π³
Hiya Linda, just for additional info, as me andFolkylass are both doing the virtual London Vitality 10km, we're both going to do ours on the same day at the same time on ,Tuesday 19Sept. We thought it would be really good knowing we are are setting off at the same time, one of us in Lincolnshire and the other in Herefordshire! βΊοΈβΊοΈ
Fabulous! I'll add her now π Remind her not to get carried away and to run her own run - it's oh so easy to go off too fast with all the race atmosphere.
She will have to join this forum to see her pompom shout out; remind her that as an eventer to be, she is a bona fide member (marathins not required!!!)
Not a race, I've pretty much stopped doing those apart from Race For Life, but a 5K walk next weekend, 10th September, for Arthur Rank hospice. We get to wander around no fewer than seven of our iconic colleges here in Cambridge, looking forward to it immensely!
