Birkenhead 5 mile race - I wasn’t feeling it at all 😕

I had booked on to this race with a few of my running club buddies but that was before I had the lurgy for 3 weeks. I’d already had to cancel a race when I was poorly. Then I had a 10k race the week after I started back running again which was tough running in the sun and uphill so I thought I was going to enjoy this one as it was a shorter distance. Wrong, it was an evening run after I’d been in work all day, my legs felt heavy from the start (I don’t normally get that), my stomach felt uncomfortable (the afternoon bbq at work probably didn’t help) and I couldn’t run without stopping twice (not happy with myself).

It was 3 1/2 laps and although it was a beautiful park I find laps so boring (especially as I had to pass the biggest dog turd 💩 3 times!!) gross!

It was my friend’s first event and she clearly had a lot of energy so when I had to walk for the second time (I encouraged her to go for it) she went off like a bullet and completed the race 2 mins faster than I did. I like to have a sprint finish in me but I didn’t that night. I couldn’t wait to finish and go home, feeling very disheartened. ☹️

I know I’m not going to enjoy every race and I’ll take that I’m still recovering and at least I finished it (just about). 😂

Pic is of my friend (on the left), who loved it and did so well and me (relieved it’s over).

Oh, I think we’ve all had races like this - where it just feels so much harder than it should! But you did it and celebrated with your friend - so well done!🙂👏🏅

You turned up, not feeling 100%, and you did the best you could on the day! But you also got bling, that’s got to be good. Well done for going and supporting your friend on her 1st event.
