After feeling rubbish with the lurgy and not running for over 3 weeks, I went back to my running club on Tuesday to see how I felt having a run and managed just over 5k. I didn’t run again for the rest of the week as I had booked a 10k race and didn’t want to overdo it, running on consecutive days after feeling so wiped out.
About 20 or so from the club took part in the beautiful Wilmslow race where all country roads had been closed and the residents of the very posh houses and cottages lined the streets cheering us all on along with the fabulous marshalls. It was a great atmosphere, a nice cool morning start at 9:15am which was perfect, a running buddy said he was going to stay with me throughout as he knew how nervous I was about it, what a lovely thing to do.
After 7k I had just started to get tired and the damn sun came out 🌞 no shade in many parts and then a hill came up around 8.5k - I took it super slow and just kept going until the end. I’m so happy I managed to finish it after feeling so bad recently. I was happy with my chip time of 1:06:46 which was only a minute slower than my pb 10k a few weeks back. ☺️ My next race is a 5 miler next week so that should feel easier. 🤞🏻

Thanks OF - I was really taking it easy and chatting for most of it (until I got to the hill) 🙈 so the time came as a nice surprise as I’m more focused on just completing it 😘 xx
Well done Dendev75 on your super run and a brilliant time. A big pat on the back for you. What a fab medal…see what I did there😂😂. I absolutely adore FAB’s since I was a kid and now at 65 I’m still eating them. I must admit I had to do a double take ….😂.I want one ! Enjoy your 5miler. and look after yourself🥰x
We’re not too far away (living halfway between Crewe and Stoke), so must put Wilmslow 10k in my list for the future. I have never yet raced in a public in-person event yet, but think I’d like the smaller city 10ks better than the Manchester, London, etc.
how many runners were there, do you know? And if you do, what was the slowest time? (No worries if not, I’d just be intrigued to know)
Brilliant achievement, especially when coming back from the IC!
I’ve looked at the results page and it looks like 2531 runners took part and the last person finished at 1:44 which just made the cut off point of 1:45.
I’d definitely do that one again, it was well organised and a mostly flat route through the country roads apart from a slight hill at around the 8k mark. 👍🏻
Hey well done, its nice to have someone to accompany you, definately makes the miles come around much quicker. Im sure I got round my first HM a few months ago because someone ran for the first 10miles with me!!😀
