My first race event - Chester 5 mile

After 3 min events (2 cancelled due to snow, 1 due to calf strain), I managed to complete my first event. It was better than I thought as I was with my running club and lots of us were nervous and excited.

The weather was kind as it had been windy and wet leading up to it but due to running country lanes the high hedges protected us from the wind and the rain stayed off 😊.

I ran all the way with a friend and we had a chat whilst running (no race pace for us πŸ˜†). There were lots of horses in the fields and some were running alongside us which was lovely.

A huge puddle covering the width of the track had all runners slowing down but a helpful Marshall showed us the shallowest part and we tramped through not getting splashed like those before us πŸ˜….

Near the finish line I grabbed my friend and we ran over it together 🏁. I absolutely loved every minute of it. (53:04 chip time - quite pleased with that as I haven’t been running long and I never thought I’d take part in a race at my age).

No bling for this run (fuming 😑🀣).

So I’ve booked my next event - The Liverpool Spring 10k - can’t wait! (And it has a medal) πŸ…πŸ‘πŸ»

Thanks Instructor57 I loved it - I think it was due to having a chat and keeping a good steady easy pace. The faster ones in our club who did it 12 minutes faster didn’t enjoy it - well that tells me all I need to know - carry on enjoying at my steady pace and having a good old chat along the way πŸ‘πŸ»

I’m so pleased you finally got that 10k under your belt, and it sounds like that was a great rehearsal for the bigger Liverpool 10k with bling. Very well done. A great pic of your shared finish too.
