Oh wowsers, VRB’s, I enjoyed that! Lovely and cool, rain falling, but not too heavy. Breezy, but nothing like Saturday’s parkrun. 👍
Set out to do 7k. I was observing the other runners while I was giving my dog a run off the lead. All had rain jackets on. I toyed with the idea, but soon ditched it. It wasn’t very cold, and I heat up very quickly (my age! 😅)
So stripped off to my sleeveless running top and off I trotted. I was literally the only runner without a jacket! 😳
Strategically started at a different place on my route so I’d be on the hill later (avoiding toxic 10 on it like usual.) It worked and I trotted up it happily on both laps. I had one moment where my PF prone foot felt tight, but I made an effort to land lighter and it soon passed. I’d have cried if I’d had to bail!
I loved every moment. Breathing in control, legs fine. I didn’t push it (I never do!) so I had plenty in the tank and I honestly thought I could have continued on to 10k - as I now realise it would be 3 laps of my usual route. But I resisted - although I did add the extra 0.25k to end up back at my car. 😀🚙🏃♀️🐕💦 Did it all in a lovely relaxed 59.48 give or take a tenth of a second, and I’m very happy!
Sorry for this ridiculously long and self-indulgent post - it’s not even a landmark distance - but I really did punch the air when I hit 7k. Who knows what I’ll do when I reach 10k?
Happy running guys. I have 2 rest days ahead now. Shame! 😅

Well done, Cheeky. You're making progress and enjoying it. What more could you ask for? Enjoy your rest days – remember to do some core strenthening exercises!
Thanks! I thought so - I might have uttered a ‘yessss’ too, but since I was wearing headphones, I don’t know how loud it was. Weird soaking wet, jacketless running lady making gestures and talking to herself! 😅😳
Yes - I like this weather 😀😀 Probably a good thing the runners got a bit mucky - I had been faffing about avoiding puddles, until I came to a bit of the path that was all puddle. Splash! Forgot to say congrats on the 7k - awesome 👏👏👏👏👏👏👍😀
Thank you Dexy! It does feel special, you’re right. The light is at the end of the tunnel. I’ll go for 8k next week. I keep pinching myself - I was desperate for the 1 minute runs of W1R1 to end back in June. What an amazing programme we’ve all been on! 😀❤️👍
It is weird how that works isn’t it Dexy5 ? We both did accidental 7ks and I know a few others that did. Well done cheekychipmunks - sounds like a great run! 🏃♀️🏃♀️
My first 7k was awful 😂 I finished it - only just - but it was such a relief to stop! My point being - if the 8k feels unexpectedly hard, don't panic. Work on the same basis as the C25k programme and move on if you finish, even if the run sucked. After breezing a 9.5k run, I struggled with the 10k graduation run, which I'd prepared for meticulously. But then found the following week's 12k almost easy-peasy again, having done almost everything wrong 🤷♀️ It's baffling, and fascinating!!!
Yay you’re a star 🌟, Bailey and I are gonna hit the park in the morning, I’m just gonna keep the 5 k nice and tidy plus she’ll enjoy the run,we’re having lovely mild weather at the mo after Saturday’s washout, my car still smells damp 😩, again congratulations on your run, you’ll hit 10k before you know it😁.
You are too Walshy! 👍👏🏃♀️😀 Looking forward to hearing about your 5k tomorrow. My car smells funky too!
10k doesn’t seem so daunting now, especially since realising it’ll literally be 3 laps of my usual route - think each circuit is 3.7k, so perfect. 😀
I’ve also found another positive, and it refers to Flossie, my dog. As a fair amount of the circuit can be on pavement (we're lucky, we can choose either), her claws are being trimmed each time we go out! Win-win, as she hates going to the vet and I certainly can’t do them as she’s too jumpy. 🐕👍😀
Love it!! Baileys a choc lab collie cross and she can go for miles!! I took her for a long walk not long after we got her, we put in 13 miles before she flagged! I kid you not, there’s plenty of parks, towpath and forestry by me so she burn off plenty of energy, now that I’m back into running she thinks Christmas has come early!!!
Thanks Beanjo, you’re always so supportive and I really appreciate it! ❤️
It does feel awesome running along and realising I’m not needing to worry about my breathing any more. I’ll never be a gazelle, but I’m ok with that. 😀
I have no doubt whatsoever that 5k will be yours whenever you want it. Can’t wait to read the celebratory post! 😀😀😀
Well done cheeky that's a great achievement 10k is in your sights.
I never made it to Park run on Saturday as had of a dicky belly, as the weather was rough I decided to go to the gym for a short trot on the treadmill and ended up doing 8k!!! It feels great to be adding the distance, I've even started looking at 10k races, as I now know that it is achievable.
Thanks TC, yes I thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely prefer the cooler weather and a drop of rain! Looking forward to 10k the more I believe it’s achievable! Got to crack 8k and 9k first! 😀🏃♀️😀
Well done you! 🎉🎉🎉⭐️👏🏻🏃♀️🐕 I am hoping to run 7k, which will be my longest run yet on Wednesday. My idea is that it will be an early birthday present for me! I shall be 62(yikes!) on Thursday. lovely to read of the pleasure running is giving you.
Brilliant 61 (will you need to change your user name on Thursday?!) Hope your run goes well - will look forward to hearing all about it! Have a wonderful birthday! 😀😀
Not sure about you, but I keep pinching myself, trying to make sense of how one day in June this year I suddenly became a runner at 54! Bonkers! 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
I do have an inkling of what you mean, although I tend to think of myself of someone who has started to do some running rather than a runner. I had been doing my current exercise routines for years, then varied it a bit, but still exercises in our house. Just wanted a change, thought about running, asked a few friends if they'd run with me and one mentioned C25k and sowed the seed. I looked it up and, as they say, the rest is history.
I hadn't considered that running would give all sorts of variety. PBs for distance, speed, intervals, this so very helpful forum, different clothes and shoes, podcast listening, Parkrun, new routes and of course I think that I talk about it too much. Oops! I just wrote that, I'd better keep myself in check! And of course planning in when running fits in the week.
I was thinking about my name, perhaps, 61+and trying, so I shall always know I started at 61, but I'm not sure. What a stupid name to have chosen in the first place. I did try a few others without my age, but they were already taken. Could go for andstilltrying, I'll muse on it.
All the best with with your onward running journey.
Thanks CH, it just clicked. I was running along virtually effortlessly, and what makes me super proud is how my recovery is almost instantaneous. All good stuff.
The support and encouragement of you guys definitely helps, so thank you! 🏃♀️❤️😀
Fabulous run cheeky! literally! Reminds me of Fabulous450's posts - glad you enjoyed it -and I do plenty of self-indulgent posts myself, so indulge away and enjoy a little victory dance at beating your previous distance. I'll celebrate with you along with everyone else - as you can see!!
Thanks Chris, yes it was one of my favourites. Amazing how something I used to hate with a passion has wormed its way into my life in such a positive way. 🏃♀️🏃♀️👍
Well done cheeky, I'm proud of you. 👍 After a pretty tough few weeks I'm getting back into it, did 4k today, gonna stretch my legs and try for 5.5 or six on Thursday, time permitting. You keep doing it and lemme know how 10k feels when you get there!
Thank you Mayanow! I think it’ll need to be sub zero before I wear long sleeves! I need to master a slick way to tie my jacket round my waist whilst running - as I do wear one to warm up. My car won’t always be handy to leave it in! 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
