On the injury couch…😕

“Hello, old friend!”🤣 I haven’t been here for a long while actually but over the past week I have picked up a niggle that has stopped me running.

I’m afraid I blame it on my new strength and conditioning routine - you know, that stuff we so often ignore that’s supposed to make us stronger runners!🤣

I think it might have been the reverse lunges…🙄🤷‍♀️

I ran midweek and had to stop at 4k as I developed a niggle in the back of my leg, high up. I also had a few random pulls on the front of my knee on the same leg. Anyway, I went out this morning and the niggle is still there.(only bothering me when I run). Run abandoned (Mrs Sensible☺️), not trying to run through this - I think rest is what it needs. I think it may be hamstring related - tight or slight strain?

Feeling frustrated as my running had been going so well 😩 and I am about to break up for the gloriously long school holidays when fitting in my running is so much easier.

Hopefully, a few more days rest will help, along with some gentle stretches and magnesium baths!

Happy running everyone!🙂

Oh lawks!!! Bad timing indeed but good to see you xMaybe you should have tried the less strenuous but, very productive, fitness exercises in my last Fitness post, on S and F! Putting the Fun back into Fitness, Part 2!

🤣😀🤣

Give yourself time...and less enthusiasm on those lunges!!! Xxx

Thanks Oldfloss, I’ll take a look but I honestly went quite gently on my own! I think sometimes we are just unlucky!🤷‍♀️🙂

ooh noo Sandraj39 . I hope this niggle goes away quickly . I f it doesn’t, book yourself into a sports physio. It saves lots of time on the couch.

I certainly will Dexy, I know a great physio who has saved me once or twice!

I’m back with mine because of a shoulder niggle. He’s given me a deep massage and a completely different set of exercises than the NHS physio I went to. 🤞

Oh that’s rotten. Rest and recuperation is the order of the coming days. I hope that you’ll be running soon. Take care and rest.🥰👍

Ouch! I’m familiar with such tales myself. Strength exercises are indeed crucial but at times a little tweak, left or right, can harm a tendon or hurt a muscle, and make running awkward or make us pause running altogether. The key is, as always, finding out what’s best for us and how much we can take. I, for example, stretch daily like a maniac, and have hurt my lower back as a result - because l overstretched 😅. I don’t help myself by doing martial arts either, where a wrong twist can hurt a knee. In other words, all exercise is important (especially for us who are no longer teenagers 😉) but we need to tailor our own plans, and stick to what works best. Injuries? I find them helpful. They tell me what not to repeat.

I completely agree - and I thought I had stuck to what works for me…!🙂

I'm there with you with an achilles issue, it's been a few weeks now and I am a bit fed p! Yoga is OK but no substitute for running! Hope you're better soon 🧘‍♀️
