I’ve been lucky enough to have been running for over five years now with only one injury so far (ok, a big one; a stress fracture of my fibula) when I first started running but custom orthotics sorted that out.
But lately I started getting a knee niggle, which I listened to, rested my knee and then built back up slowly. Not slowly enough though it seems as I had to cut my last run short and now have a very painful and slightly swollen inner left knee. I think it’s a ligament injury but how to tell in these locked down times as I can’t see a physio. Any advice on diagnosis and treatment would be gratefully received as I’m really keen to avoid further damage but missing my regular runs!!!

I imagine the usual sort of immediate treatment will apply universally - rest and deal with the pain (painkillers, ice perhaps). After the pain has subsided, regular movement is probably what you need, with rehabilitation exercises as you can - but a professional diagnosis would be a very good idea if you can get one.
Many physios are doing virtual appointments, oh I see roseabi is saying the same. Definitely worth contacting one, especially a sports physio. Good luck
I injured my medial ligament 2 and a half years ago. It’s a twisting injury and not something I got through running. I also had an inability to get help - largely because I was flying to Cuba 36 hours after I did it for a 3 week holiday. Diagnosis was done some weeks later by my Doctor niece when I was back home. It needed a lot of rest. It was very painful to walk for several weeks and fully messed up my holiday. I tried to run on it after 4 weeks, which was way too soon and I kept trying for several more weeks, run/limping through parkrun. It was several months before I could fully bend my knee in the classic runner’s stretch where you bring your knee up to your bum, which was probably what I should have waited for before running!
But eventually it was ok although it has permanently taken a minute per kilometre off my pace.
