I’m going to keep this short. The Two Castles 10k from Warwick to Kenilworth was HOT, HILLY and HORRIBLE!

However meeting up with friends (HU and others) was a wonderful experience as was enjoying the vista of the two castles. Thank you Sandie1961 , Katnap and TailChaser , and lovely to see another great HU member (I’ll leave him to introduce himself).

Will I do it again next year, I very much doubt it, but never say never!

Hot, hot, hot while running on roads is so hard. But you did it! Like you say, the best thing about it is that you saw two castles and you met up with some lovely people . Well done. Wear that T-shirt with pride, it was well earned.

my reply to you seems to have disappeared!! Better write it again.

Thank you Dexy. Sadly they had run out of medium T-shirts when I finished and the small one I was given is a bit snug. No worries the medal is beautiful and I have hung it up with pride!

that is so annoying isn’t it ? I often end up with larger than I ordered because faster runners get there first.

I still loved it even though it was ‘hot, hilly and horrible’! Judging by the fact it was a sell-out, I suspect it may be back to a ballot next year. It’s not always like that. I’m very glad you got to experience it though, it’s a must do for runners around here.

As time passes (and the discomfort eases) it does seem less horrible. I’m now focusing on the nice things. Thank you for sharing, what is definitely ‘an experience’ with me.

Why is your finish T-shirt yellow TailChaser ?

I don’t know! There didn’t seem to be that many of them, I was just passed a bag. I noticed someone else with a different medal - looked like they’d used up last years and put this year’s ribbon on. Maybe they had a load of unprinted orange ones left over from last year and I got a newer yellow one?

I’ve just noticed they’ve purposely put 2 colours in our next 10k race . Only one I like , so fingers crossed I don’t get stuck with fluorescent yellow. 😂

I’m really pleased with my yellow one. I’ve been meaning to get one for years for the winter runs. Wore it tonight, but I think it needs washing to soften it up.

Mine’s been washed, but it needs to soften up further!

Katnap said that he remembered too late that it was initially a bit rough and rubbed on certain places on his chest 😳. They seem to have recovered thankfully. At least we have a bit protection there!

The organisers put in 2x water stations and residents in villages and towns offered jelly babies and many welcome hoses!

you are so right Katnap, there was a lot of effort made by the organisers and the supporters on the road side to try and keep us cool and make us feel welcome. Some great shouts of encouragement. I loved the homemade sign that said “I bet you’re glad it’s not a marathon “.

Woohoo Shakes! You ran, you met friends and you earned a lovely medal. That’s a nice weekend and you should feel proud that you persevered in the heat! Superstar ⭐️

Thank you Cheeky, running in heat is an acquired taste, but thankfully we have had plenty of practice in France. Doesn’t make it any easier but you learn how to cope.

“Fear no more the heat o’the sun” Shakes …. Although the context for that quote is a bit final! Dogs are more sensible than we are. Molly has just asked to be let into the shady side of the house to continue her sleep….I have joined her! The risk is I will drop off before getting out this morning….well done on completing yesterday’s run, a noble effort.👏👏👏👏👏👏

Thanks BC! I’ll remember this song from Cymbeline when putting together plans for my funeral (hopefully not something I’ll need to do for a while!). Mind you my quote was not much better as Duncan would have faired better had he stayed away from Macbeth’s castle with its ‘pleasant seat’!! Thankfully we were all quite safe at Warwick and Kenilworth, the locals attacked us with sprinklers and hoses not daggers.

Horrible but yet you did it and got the bling 👍 (lovely bling too) Well done.

Those are fab photos. In the depths of winter you can look at them and remember the heat 🙂

how true IP! When we are getting up in the dark and putting on several layers, hunting down gloves and hats just to trot around the park, it will be a nice memory, thanks for that reminder xxx

It may have been H, H and H Shakes, but you did it! And you have bling and a T-shirt to prove it - whoop whoop!
