After driving north for about 6 hours yesterday we found out he was wrong, it’s very hilly round here.

Short joggle looking for the canal path this morning which we didn’t find but woods grass and views were lovely.

Castles and canals are now on the agenda, I will find a canal to run alongside

Happy running all

Have a lovely holiday wherever you are, go short walks or runs if you feel that way, the main thing is to relax.

It’s lovely thanks Al, it’s just bliss knowing I don’t have to go back to work for a week and I met a man with a dog who told me i wasn’t that far from the canals We are hunting a castle later

When I first saw your photo I thought it was a headstone 🙄😏

There’s definitely a castle in there though! Happy running to you both 🙂

It’s a stone marker for the canal walk that we never found, we’ve come to a different town for the castle, it’s amazing having a holiday

It reminds me of the old joke.

"Sure, this fellow lived to a grand old age." "Who's that?"

"This one here on the headstone. 102, Miles from Dublin."

Thanks Dexy, it’s just great to see family and spend time together

Oh enjoy your hols! Up North is lovely 😊. Being a northerner myself and now living in the south, I'm very biased 😊. I am heading Up North myself for a holiday at the weekend. We're off to beautiful North Yorkshire, where - you can tell Willow - it is definitely not flat 😉.

Welcome back home at the weekend Delly-dot. We have just returned home to the northernmost bit of North Yorkshire after 2 weeks in the lovely Isles of Scilly. There has been a lot of rain whilst we we were away, so that everything is looking very lush and green. Unsurprisingly, it is still very hilly 🙂

in reply to Beachcomber66

I’m looking forward to doing some tourist running in new places. Hopefully we’ll find a flattish route, as my daughter has just started C25K and I think hills might not go down well at this stage 😉🤫.

Beachcomber66 profile image

True!! Although they help to keep the pace down 🙂

Welcome up North Willow and Sola. No canals, but plenty of hills in our bit of North Yorks. Railway lines turned into walkways are our best bet for flatter runs. 😀

I think we are east of you,, my geography is dire but we are in Lancashire

Beachcomber66 profile image
Beachcomber66Graduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

Lancashire is west of us 🙂. East of us is the North Sea; no hills but not good for running 😂

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Beachcomber66

I went to Middlesbrough once and went to a beach, it was so tempting that off came my outer clothes and in i went, it was October and i’d never felt water so cold before, that North Sea is freezing

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to SueAppleRun

Oh I meant west

Beachcomber66 profile image
Beachcomber66Graduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

It is pretty cold up here but seas around Scilly feel colder. Something about circular tides down there keeping the water very clean but very cold too!

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Beachcomber66

The sea is strange, north west of Scotland there is the gulf stream which can make swimming more pleasurable

Beachcomber66 profile image
Beachcomber66Graduate10 in reply to SueAppleRun

True. Swimming off beaches in Cornwall is good too; wet suit needed for many of us off Scilly.

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Beachcomber66

I’d always thought Scilly would have warm seas, we live on the south coast and it’s warm enough in summer

Chesterlove profile image

Yep, we’ve just been up t’north and it’s hilly! My knees are not happy at all. I’ve never had to walk mid run since I graduated, until that is, I went north 😂

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply to Chesterlove

We ran down and down then decided to turn round and go back up before we’d gone down so far we couldn’t get back up again

Beachcomber66 profile image
Beachcomber66Graduate10 in reply to Chesterlove

😂😆😂 Have just come back from a 5k road run. Elevation gain 36m. It isn’t all terrible. The route is level to down hill out and uphill much of the way back 🙂. The worst one I do (not very often now) is 150m gain. Just have to slow off.

Thanks and we are, today is resting day and we’ve hardly moved, apart from stairs, we don’t have stairs at home and it seems whatever you want involves going up or down stairs
