But today is Global Running Day. I didn't twig until after I got back from my lunchtime swim but I couldn't resist getting a short 20 minute outing in after work. It was lovely in the woods sun filtering through the trees, birds singing.
I didn't see a single person apart from a middle aged bloke on a mountain bike who, totally unannounced and from behind, forced his way past me in a really narrow gap on my right side when there was enough room for a battleship on my left. Grr!
Anyway, Garmin rewarded me with a Global Running Day badge. And who doesn't like a nice shiny new badge π
Happy Global Running Day everyone!

Happy Global Running Day to you Birdlady64, nasty cyclist, I also go bike rides during the summer on a Sunday but always ring my bell when I see any walkers or runners in front of me on a cycle path, so you ran on consecutive days for the first time ever, that's a thing I have never done, Iol I am still in C25K mode, no running on consecutive days although it was 5 years there on Monday that I ran, run 3 of week 7 of C25K, I am sure if I did run on consecutive days I wouldn't get injured.
I'm not sure if I'll run on consecutive days again in a hurry Al. Consider it a one-off.I reckon you'd be absolutely fine if you did though as you have been running consistently for a long time now.
That cyclist did make me jump though and put me off my stride for a bit.
You have just given me a thought Birdlady64, come the 18th June this year it will be 5 years since I graduated from C25K, so on Monday the 19th June this year I intend to re-enact that run by running for 30 minutes non stop, run 3 of week 9 at the very same place that I ran back in 2018, along the prom at Helensburgh on the west coast of Scotland.
I think yuu could safely run on consecutive days Al... your legs have the miles in them.... I think it was two years after Graduation that I ran first on some consecutive days. I did run every day in December for a Marcothon... but that was after about five years of running!
Yes I remember you doing that Marcothon Floss, you say that was about five years after you started running, I am sure I could run on consecutive days as well, I'll try that probably some day soon. π ππΎ β
Oooooooh π nice one Birdlady64 that's great going! It can be useful too as sometimes it's good practice to run on tired legs or just run because you can π Love that you are so consistent. You must love this time of year seeing all the birds π¦ π
Thanks so much GTFC although consistency has gone AWOL a bit lately.Get you totally but it wasn't so much my legs that were tired, but my arms ached after my swim and my abs were announcing their intense displeasure after last night's Pilates!
Iβve just got my badge from Nike Run Club! The guided run I was doing was just the next one from the half marathon plan but it ended by saying youβre never running alone, youβre always part of a huge supportive, community of runners. I thought that was particularly appropriate for Global Run Day! So glad youβre here as part of our lovely community β€οΈ
Happy Global Running Day Birdlady64 ! Well done on your run! Today was meant to be my rest day and I forgot about Global Running Day until my reminder came through this morning so off I went (for the sake of a NRC badge!) and aimed for a gentle 1k (I had ran an intense 5k and did an upper body strength session on Monday then a 10k yesterday with a full body strength session - bit stupid really but I thought I would a solid rest today). Anyway, I ran my very first true easy effort recovery run because I needed to and thoroughly enjoyed it (so much so I did just over 5k to get back for a meeting) and understood what it means when they say you should feel more refreshed after a recovery run. Will definitely not be running tomorrow! Sorry you had a poor experience with a cyclist May you have a good rest tomorrow.
I'd not heard of it either until some people I follow on Strava mentioned it. My runners brain took over my sensible self and I had to go out for a short one.
well I just had a look and I got the badge anyway for a run I did earlier in the week! I donβt really notice the badges on the Garmin app. I only usually look at the VO2 Max, or details of the workouts I write!
Happy Global Running Day to you, I so wanted to but today I couldn't, I did get a walk in though, flipping bikes, or their riders, most are courteous though, shame you met that one
It doesn't matter. You had a walk. Its more about getting out and moving I think than the actual running bit.I did shout something rather unsavoury after the cyclist but I don't think he heard me or cared. Never mind
About a year ago I had a similar experience with a cyclist, except he was coming towards me. There was loads of space on my left but he forced himself through the tiniest space possible on my right. I shouted "idiot!" at him. I can't remember his response now but I seem to remember feeling angry for a long time afterwards.
Similarly, if it wasn't for the badge (and you posting it on Strava making me aware of it) I probably wouldn't have run today.
Mine was about 12 minutes for the main run (2ΒΌkm) and 45 seconds for the sprint (200m), with walking before, during and after.
I put pizza in the oven before heading out the door and turned off the oven when I got back. The pizza crusts were a bit "crunchy" but the rest was OK.
I went for the badge too BL What us runners will do for a shiny badge, real or virtual!
I have no qualms running on consecutive days, but Iβve been running for 5 years. I did RED January in 2022 (might have been 2021, I forget) and had no ill effects. Now I just run on whatever days fit in with my week, the only exception is before or after a long one.
Iβm glad you enjoyed your GRD run yesterday. Mine was horrid as I didnβt have time to go anywhere else, and ran round the hilly, rutted and often thigh height fields behind my house! Got the badge though. π
Yes I know what you mean. Some of the paths here are rutted with dried mud and getting overgrown with vegetation. I just slow down when needed as I'd much rather be in the countryside than on the roads
Well done on your consecutive runs, i too always have a break between runs, prob schooled into us after doing c25k, although actualy did consecutive runs after an organised 10k, a few weeks ago, on a sun, and mon is my normal running night, but no ill effects afterwards. πββοΈ
The important thing is to ease into it gently. Maybe do two consecutive running days one week, but nothing too strenuous. Then gradually add in more days over the coming months.
As always, it's best to vary the intensity: longer runs interspersed with shorter ones.
I'm currently at about four to five runs per week, but I did run every day for nearly all of the first three months of this year.
Thanks Peter. Yes definitely etched into the brain from c25k. I consider it as an unusual event. I've no plans to start running more than 3 times a week and I'm struggling to fit that in at the moment
