Pics are my snazzy legging, and the enormous Hawk Moth caterpillar that one of my cats had brought in for me on my return from my run. It was the size of my forefinger!!! I thought it was half a grass snake at first. I rescued it and it’s back out in the garden again.
Today was supposed to be my 4k run of Magic Plan week 4 ... I’d decided on that because I was aching considerably yesterday so postponed the run until today. So I thought I’d start with the 4, then the long one on Sunday with fewer pillocks getting in my way, and then leave the 5 till Tuesday.
The reason I was aching was my own fault. I noticed a couple of days ago that I had not done any Pilates since the Tuesday night Zoom class on the 1st!!! I’d sort of let the habit slip so I decided to get back in the game and did an hour session on Wednesday... Healthy spine and Strong Legs... which was good and I enjoyed it. Then I was all fired up and decided to tidy the garage ... and the loft. Consequently my shoulders were achey, then last night I decided to have a nice soak in the bath ( something I very rarely do as I get too hot and can’t cool down again) and after that about 9pm I thought perhaps I’ll do some Pilates to loosen up ready for tomorrow’s run so I did Glutes Power for an hour. Well I enjoyed that too and I think it helped me sleep.
So this morning I was up and raring to go. I love these cooler mornings - much more my type of running weather. Inhaler done ✔️headphones charged✔️snazzy new leggings ✔️strangely the trainers I wanted to wear seem to have vanished!!!! I have several pairs I rotate and cannot find my pale blue and pink ones. Very odd!! So royal blue trainers✔️ and off I went.
I’m really enjoying the music I’m currently listening to, the Podcast is called Balance - Running to the Beat and there are some oldies I remember my teenage son playing over and over but I quite like them now. I ran down towards the Civic Centre, Intending to run downstream as usual but the wind was quite fierce in that direction, so I turned and ran upstream towards the Park and ran around part of the Parkrun route. Foolishly I’d forgotten about all the school kids dawdling along trying not to get to school. I’m going to have to get up earlier or stick to the Tarka Trail again.
Most of them got out of the way but the parents driving along the edge of the Park, to drop off their lazyarsed kids right at the school gates, drive like maniacs. I nearly got hit a couple of times and as there are kids walking along the edge of that bit, with only partial pavements, you’d think they’d be a lot more careful.
Apart from that once I’d got past and turned back towards home it was a lovely run. Several other smiling runners and dog walkers.... and the river was serene and still as the tide was still mostly in. I saw 2 Vees of Canada Geese flying upriver. I don’t know why but I always like to watch them flying over, honking mournfully. When I was a kid we would always dash outside if we heard them to watch them go over when they used to fly south. They don’t bother now and stay here all year round.
And then I realised I’d gone past 4k and was still running so I rounded it up to 5k and then walked home. I suppose I probably should have carried on and done the 8k as I was comfortable but decided not to push it and spoil an enjoyable run.
