Just to let you know @Over61andstilltrying I DID get out there today ( albeit not quite as planned). I had planned to get up as soon as I woke and so had put all my kit ready last night, so I could roll out of bed and go (more or less) and as I usually wake at 7 every morning , if not earlier, didn’t bother setting an alarm. Yesterday I’d felt that my daughter had kindly shared her cold with me so before I went to bed I dozed myself up with decongestants etc so I’d get a good nights sleep and this morning I awoke, leapt out of bed, straight into my running gear and downstairs....glancing at my watch I noticed that I’d awakened at the crack of 10.00!!!! Obviously must have needed the sleep but undaunted I waded through the herd of cats on the way to the kitchen ( it’s only 4 really but felt like more as they were all convinced that I’d died in the night and they were in danger of starving to death), fed them and made myself a SIS drink before heading out the door.
Feeling quite perky as I did my warm up walk, considering how rubbish I’d felt all day yesterday, I changed my mind about just a quick round the block and set off towards my favourite running spot, the Tarka Trail. I had set up week9 of C25k on my phone to listen to and thought I’ll just do about 30 mins or so. As I crossed the car park and onto the track I noticed a poster saying the Bridge will be closed from Tuesday June 2nd for maintenance works, which means I am going to have to plan my route differently for a while. I go that way mostly as I only cross the road once while I am on my warmup walk and again once just before the track starts. I hate having to stop because of traffic.. puts me off my stroke.
Anyway even though it was quite warm and muggy even there was quite a strong wind against me as I set off on my outward part of the run. 2 k in and I was beginning to think I might run a 10k so I fiddled about and changed my music to week 4 of B210k which is supposed to be 18 min runs 3 times with a minutes walk between but I just usually run straight through but it’s longer music. I was going along fine then I got stitch at about 3.5k so I walked and stretched a bit and tried carrying in at same speed but I’d lost momentum then and turned and ran back. First half was fun - second not so much by I did do 7k so not too bad.
Home and a nice stretch and a long shower and looking forward to Saturday and my first ParkRun. Hope it’s not too hot then.

Hi limberlou, That sleep to 10 sounds wonderful! Well done on still running! I kept to my word and ran my first 10k since, seems like forever, before breakfast today. Actually left the house at 6am. The enjoyment factor is no where near where it was, although my hamstring is not advising me that anything is wrong, so that is very good. My current thinking is that our garden needs my time more than running does, so future runs may be on hold. Pondering....
Well I’m managing to fit my garden, my daughter’s garden and painting walls etc into my week as well as running ( and crocheting blankets) so no excuses now. Running will keep you strong for gardening 👍😜
I need hours in my garden at the moment. You are clearly a super star! Well done to you. We are going to our daughter's tomorrow and I shall be gardening while also helping my husband with various tasks. I think one includes draining the water out of the central heating system. Have you a plan for your running?
Well originally it was just to get back to where I was preinjury, which I’ve done now. So now it’s to keep up with at least 3 times a week...2 x 5ks ( or a 4 and a 6) and then a longer run ( 8 or 10k ) every week for a few weeks, then maybe see about going a bit further
And to break the mental block I have about ParkRun. And actually go to one. 🤣🤣
Good to hear tat you have a plan. Have a lovely time at your parkrun, have you looked up about the course and how many participants they usually have? I loved my first parkrun. I wrote a post about it and the second one I made a massive error in eating breakfast too late. I wrote a post about that one too.
How long did it take to get up to where you were pre-injury?
Well I fractured my ankle and sprained it too June 30 2018 so no running till end of September when I restarted C25k. Just finished that and I dislocated my toes, then had a chest infection over Xmas and new year which left me with a lingering cough, then I had a bleed in my eye in Jan which me at no running for a while so it was about mid Feb before I got back into it again properly. Then I did one run from each week from about week 3, then ran 5k for a week or so and restarted B210k end of March and finished that about 2 weeks ago
