First 10k race in the bag!

Well, I did it. My first 10k race in Altrincham yesterday. It was a lovely sunny day and a bit warm at times, but it was a fantastic occasion. Well organised, lots of people out on the course, encouraging us all, friends and family to congratulate me, medal and a great time - 58:13! I had some nerves leading up to the event, but the encouragement from people on here was wonderful and certainly helped. This morning I feel fine and wondering what to do next. We go to Cornwall on Saturday for a fortnight, so I’ll do a bit of running, but mainly I am going to take it easy. Thanks again for your help.

Well done to you and congratulations on your first race 👍 It’s a special one and you’ll always remember it fondly 🙂 And what a great time too!

Tourist running is a must so try and get some gorgeous runs squeezed in. Enjoy yourself!

Thanks very much for this. Still glowing! I’m looking forward to the odd Cornish run.

That's a great time. You're faster than me by a good minute and a half.

Take things easy in Cornwall. Pretty much everywhere is hilly.

Thanks for this. Thinking back, I think I may have pushed myself a bit too much. I don’t feel achy today, but on reflection, I may have got carried away by the occasion, the weather and the downhill bits!! Thanks also for the Cornish advice. I will definitely heed that.

My memory of Cornwall from a couple of years back is when you're off the main roads it's all deep lanes with very high hedges.

Yes, we were there a few years ago and my memory is the same.

Thanks very much. I did enjoy, but as I’ve said elsewhere, I may have gone a little too fast. Only by 5 minutes or so, but still ….I will enjoy Cornwall, that’s for certain and I’m always happy running!!

👏👏👏 well done and congratulations, nice time too, did you find yourself unintentionally running faster?

Thanks for this. I usually speed as I go through the kilometres, but my first one was slightly faster than normal - only by 10 seconds or so, but I just built from there. Also although there were slopes to go up, there were also ones going down!
