Does a pause during a run count?

I've just joined a running club and they do a brief warm up run, pause for about 5mins for some introductions and club announcements, then go on to the main run.

My question is, should I include the warm up run in my overall distance, or not, considering the 5ish min pause? For context, I'm following JuJu's running plan and I'm counting the warm up run (about a mile) into my overall distance for that run.

I read that breaks for traffic lights or the odd quick bathroom trip are fine, but this is considerably longer than that.

It is completely up to you. When I run with my running club we do interval training on the track. I pause my watch for the interval breaks and resume again for the running parts. I log the warm up and cool down runs separately on my watch. But other club members include the warm up, cool down and interval sets all as part of 1 run. And they pause the interval breaks and warm up exercises. So there is no hard rule. You can do it however you want. Enjoy.

Same as what damienair said. I used to just leave it on run and let the auto pause do its work but most would log the warm ups and cool downs etc.

I would say it's entirely up to what you are aiming to achieve. If you want to be able to say to yourself that you can do the time / distance without a break then don't count it, if you're very flexible around that then go ahead and count it. It depends on what you're aiming for.

whenever I’m doing interval runs, I just press start at the start and finish at the end …yes, my overall distance and time is longer but it’s a true reading of what I’ve been up to

You should be able to pause for this! However if you manually pause on your device you can forget to set it off again! My garmin automatically pauses after a minute and restarts when you being running again!

thanks to everyone for the replies. My watch pauses it automatically, but I was mostly wondering if the run counted because of the break in the middle (allowing you time to rest). As most say, it’s up to you and I will continue to count it. When I graduate JuJus plan and get to 10k, I will want to do a 10k continuously, but while Im training for it, Ill continue to count the “broken” runs
