Legs, feet, mind: who wants to run?

Woke up. Looked outside. So-so weather. So perfect for running? Not sunny, not cold, not rainy.

Mental body check.

Huh?

Mind tells me it doesn’t want to run.

Feet tell me, “Yeah! Go for it!”

Knees tell me, “We’re ok.”

Achilles tendons tell me, “uhhh, take it easy, ok?!”. They are still moaning from squatting in the garden, as well as some ankle mobility exercises. They’re fine when rowing, ok when running, but they don’t like walking.

But my upper legs tell, “ohhh!! Take us out for a spin, please!”

So I chose the smallest run in my current week 5 of the NRC 10k running plan, 30-min “Speed Run with Sanya”.

I focussed on the run, no time for photos, and took it easy when my upper Achilles-calf-tightness told me to. Although heading back on the out-and-back route earlier than I normally would, I finished the NRC audio run perfectly back at my doorstep of my house.

And result of a mental body check on my return, on how I feel now?

Mind tells me, “Why did I doubt myself? I feel great! Thanks!”

Feet and knees tell me, “This was grrrreeeat!!! We feel even better!”

Achilles tendons tell me, “ We’re actually ok!”

And upper legs, “We really needed this!”

So pretty happy to have run,

Now for some more gentle gardening!

Happy running everyone!

LOL, yes sometimes it takes some negotiation! 🤣🤣

I like that flexibility of picking the run that you need from the week. Sometimes there’s no time for a long run…so it’s then a toss up between speed or recovery. I’ve been known to either repeat one, or nick one from the next week if it’s the only one that will do!

Seems like you needed, and enjoyed, that run!

Enjoy the gardening now 🏃🏻‍♀️🐌👩🏻‍🌾😉

yup, seeds seeded, propagator placed, containers filled, rhubarb rehoused, hanging baskets refilled. Now I just need to be patient! I’m always surprised how small some seeds are! Today’s seeds: basket tomatoes, dill, tree spinach, zucchini, and runner beans went in a week ago.

This is exactly the same as me. I like doing them from the monthly playlist too-you can often get a badge that way as well!

yes! Rain this morning thwarted my plans though…having run 5k on Friday…I was planning a 28 minute Fartlek today…thinking that should cover the remaining 2.56k for the 25k monthly challenge…😫

(I’ve been away for 3 days this week…)

☹️

(But at least Monday is a bank holiday, even though it still scuppers your 25k/month badge. )

Clever post 😀 Never really think of my body in parts…..really just an overall ‘feel’ and run or not to run is usually down to convincing the mind! Strategy at the moment is a Couch to 5 k revisit + extra km if I feel ok. This is making me get out 3 times a week and hopefully back to more of a routine and improved fitness level.

yeah, I think my body starts to feel as separate parts when I’m not quite balanced. My lower calf muscles (Achilles?) are not 100%, but my glutes are. And I think when both are equally strong, I don’t get that sesperate feeling. But it might just be my interpreting this into what I’m feeling.

Love this - very ‘mindful’ ! 😉 It’s all very well listening to our bodies on the actual run but I try not to take too much notice to what it’s saying to me beforehand!🤣

My favourite mantra before I run is - ‘I’m turning up’🤣 No pressure, no expectations! Seems to work pretty well.🙂
