Some days leaving the house is a huge pain. Sometimes enthusiasm reigns. Today was nicely in the middle.
It was overcast, warm (20C), muggy but a pleasant southerly breeze, which on my route means it's mostly blowing on my side, perfect.
I was a bit late setting off and when I set my Garmin I noticed that the battery was in the red. Oops, do I go back and charge it or just see how long it lasts? If I went back the lethargy would get me. Who needs numbers anyway? I had my NRC app going too so that'd prove I'd been out
Well, the battery lasted around 25 minutes, not quite enough to see me home. I'd planned to do 3k but covered a little bit more so decided to carry on to 3.14 km (I'm a bit of a nerd, it's a π run ). NRC reached 3.13, I was watching it as it can jump suddenly, 3.13, 3.13, 3.13, 3.13...ok, I'm bored, I'm going to stop it now...suddenly 3.15, and when I stopped the run it said 3.16.
I'm all for a bigger slice of the pie but...

Making the most of the weather when we can... well done to you... despite the glitches!
I sometimes think, bring back the days when i just had my watch and my land marks and pre run mapwork to tell me exactly how far I had run... it may have been a bit inaccurate but it worked.
I have a really good in-built estimation of distance now too and in my local runs, I don't really need any tech, to tell me how far or how fast... just my watch!
If only I could just ignore all the numbers but it makes me happy to see proof I'm actually getting out there
I've got a few regular routes that I know are 3, 5 or 6 km without measuring so ultimately I have an idea what I'm up to...well, at least with the running 😂
OMG! "It's a π run." I have to share this with a math professor friend of mine. She will get a great kick out it...
I've learned the lesson of Garmin charging. I was out for a run and my miles count towards a virtual run I'm doing following Catherine of Aragon's route from court to Kimbolton, where she later died.
My Garmin warned me that I was very low and I wondered if I would lose the entire run or part or what...luckily, it lasted and I virtually made it to Hatfield House.
Thanks for this post!!! I am sitting in my running gear, staring out at pouring rain and have chickened out of a morning run. Hopefully there will be a window this afternoon when it dries up a bit. As long as I can start in the dry...... But, when you mentioned your watch battery, it made me check mine and it is nearly dead! So thanks to you, it is now charging and should be all fired up and ready for the next run shortly. 😂😂
