5 mile trail race

I went along to the trail and was so happy when I saw my running buddy there (she took her OH to a hosp appt and didn’t think she’d make it).

It was really warm which I’m not a fan of running in heat.

I have humongous blisters on the tip of both of my second toes probably from the 10k race last weekend and a hilly trail run on Tuesday, I also have a hip niggle but anyway I put plasters on the toes and hoped for the best.

I’ve always wanted to run a trail race as I love hiking hills and mountains - this was not easy and I didn’t enjoy it all. It was too warm and it was the first time I’ve ever had to walk in any of my runs (I couldn’t run them).

I didn’t have much of a sprint finish in me either which I normally do. Over the finish line and picked up an eco goodie bag with my eco friendly wooden medal, sweets and we got a lovely pair of running socks (the same as the ones I’d ordered last night online 🙈). Oh well different colours so I’m happy with that.

Not sure I’d do another trail but maybe it’s like when you have a baby and you forget the pain and have another 😂😂 (or maybe not, I stopped at one baby).

Pic of me (left) and my running bud ☺️

Good luck to everyone running this weekend.

P.s. I might have to do my virtual HU 10k later in the week as my blisters are so tender. 😣

Very well done on your 5 mile trail run !And yes, I can be tough when it's warm and especially if your not used to trail running! (I'm not) and with blisters as well !

Glad your running buddy got there in time 🙂

Do be mindful of the hip niggle though🤞

Thank you - I think the longer runs and trail running are having more of an effect on my body than my usual 5-6k road running I usually do. Hoping a couple of days rest will ease it 🤞🏻

I'm sure you are right! With uneven surfaces and varying cambers and obstacles it can be a totally different workout for the body!

very well done!!! Im fairly new to trail running and am now realising how very different it is from road running and yes it certainly affects your body in ways you probab;y don't think about. Ive been increasing trail and hill roads and its given me a bit of a groin strain which Ive never had before because of the uneven terrain.

Blisters sound soooo painful, they are just awful, hope they get better soon!😒

Thank you 😘

Do you enjoy the trail running? I did a short training one last Tuesday and loved it - I'm not sure if it was a culmination of the heat, toe blisters and niggly hip that I just didn’t like it.

I might try one in cooler weather and after a bit more trail running training 👍🏻

Im getting used to it. Were doing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks this Sat and I and 3 others hadn't done any trail or hill running before, so as part of our training, we've had quite a few trail and hill sessions. I have to say I find trail running so much better than road running, most we have done have been in really lovely locations. The only issue I have is that I have an old ankle issue which means if i go over on it, it can cause me problems. Sods law I rolled my ankle 2 weeks ago but it was getting out of the car would you believe, not even running and I think the slight groin strain I currently have is the increase of hill training Ive done lately.
