Last night i did my first ever timed 10K event and my 3rd 10K. I joined my Sister and we both ran the 2019 Nightrun in Dublin. It was amazing, 7,000 other runners, DJ at the start line, running through Dublin City in the dark as the city lights and cranes twinkled in the background.
There was a constant stream of people all the way around the course, locals were out cheering us along, the atmosphere was electric. It took a while to get going and find a rhythm as it was very congested and slow for the first Km. But Ruth and I found our Rhythm and we finished in a time of 58:13 shaving 2 seconds off my 10K PB, and the course was 150 meters longer than 10K according to my Garmin watch. I still have to check my official chip time yet. But I was delighted.

Thanks. Yes Parkrun is to blame. If not for Parkrun I’d not have stuck with running. I adore Parkrun. Looking forward to being a 30 min Parkrun Pacer next weekend.
Oh wow Damien, huge well done to you and your sister! I was in Dublin for a few days last week, it’s a lovely city and I can imagine the atmosphere at night! Amazing! 👏👏👏👏
Thanks. It was great. So many tourists running it too. The 5K mark came off the road and went in through an athletics track and back out again. That was cool and running along the river liffey and crossing the various bridges was great.
Thanks. Night time was great, the energy was amazing and there was a constant stream of people before and after us. The legs are tired today. My new Brooks GTS 19 were fantastic.
Thank you. It was such a good run. And also very well organized, police , medics and volunteers were all over the course. Loads of tourists took part so book your ticket for next year.😀
Hmm that’s tempting! A friend has just sent me the link for the 2020 London Marathon ballot. As I’m not even running a mile n a half yet after 3 months I think the 10k is a bit more sensible to aim for 😂😂
10K is my marathon. Running anymore than that is madness. I just wouldn’t do it. Even a half marathon I would not do. But I am so impressed and full of admiration for everyone who trains and does a Marathon.
Do a 10K in Dublin at Night time and rehydrate with a couple of pints of Guinness afterwards in your full running gear.😂
I’m definitely aiming for 10k as my end goal so I’ll add Dublin at Night to my running goals. Just been telling my daughter about it n she fancies it too. Might skip the Guinness though, sadly I’m not keen 😔
Congrats to you and your Sis on a great event! An evening race would feel very different than the usual daytime races, I would think. Any more events on the horizon?
I’m going to just relax for a while now and keep doing my 3-4 runs per week and aim for my 50th Parkrun. Next weekend I am volunteering as a 30 minute pacer at Parkrun so looking forward to that. I’d love to do another 10K event with Ruth towards the end of the summer.
what a brilliant PB 10k run. 👏👏👏👍👍🥳🥳. And Ahhhh you are really real 😀. What a gorgeous photo of you and your Sis and running together too. Sounds like an amazing nighttime event. Did you wear your old faithfuls 👟👟 or take newbies out for a spin?
Cheers. It was such good fun running with Ruth. She is a real cool girl about town and lives in Dublin. I only live 30 mins away but don’t like hanging out in the big smoke too much. I wore my new shoes for the first time. Broke in the Brooks GTS19’s on a 10K road race. Glad I did, they were comfortable and cushioned much better.
What a brilliant sounding event and how great to run with your sister. I am not even acknowledging to myself that 10k is my aim, being so very very slow at 5k, but it is really. Might take me a year or so to get there! Congratulations. Fab time too!
Small steps. It took me 2 years to get here. I love 5K and I adore Parkrun. So last night I told myself I was doing 2 Parkruns back to back. When I got to 5K I said to Ruth, ‘’ 1 Parkrun down, 1 to go’’. 5K is my favourite distance. Just keep on running. I struggled to do 5K in January after a break in December.
