My running Highlight of 2022 was on the 27th November when I ran my first Half Marathon in memory of Tim, the other one was meeting Tasha99 and GTFC at Drumpellier Parkrun when the 3 of us ran together all in a sub 31 minutes time.
Your running Highlight of 2022: My running... - Bridge to 10K
Your running Highlight of 2022
Great post Al! And a great question.
I'm not surprised you chose meeting GTFC and Tasha99 and your first HM in Tim's memory.
One of my highlights of 2022 was a 4k early morning holiday run by the sea at Southbourne. I've always wanted to run by the sea and it was glorious. The splits were ridiculously negative and my cooldown stretches were done by a cliff top bench in the sea breeze. Bliss!
Another had to be my longest ever run of 7 miles back in September.
And then there was a wonderfully mindful run in memory of Tim.
Happy New Year Everyone! Here's hoping 2023 brings us all many wonderful moments
Lovely highlights Al, wishing you lots of good runs in 2023
I suppose meeting up with TailChaser , Katnap and one of the kits at a parkrun was a mini highlight.
Another was doing a half marathon from where we were staying in Trunch in North Norfolk all the way to Cromer and back, even though I had a loo emergency and also tore my shorts on thorns.
There are so many highlights Al. Vitality London 10k, Great South Run, Spitfire 10k, Severn Bridge parkrun, Venice 10k, Lincoln 10k with variously cheekychipmunks Dexy5 UpTheStanley Shake-and-run TailChaser Katnap linda9389 @roseabi Beachcomber66 Hedgehogs123 Mudita11 -David-G and my 2nd half marathon. What an amazing runny year and what fabulous friends I have made through this running journey 😃
Hi Al. For me, 2022 has been a sort of consolidation year. No pbs etc but I have had some lovely runs in all sorts of weather . I had a great time running the Severn Bridge 10k (I have already put in my entry for the 2023 race!) And I ran overseas for the first time on my holiday in June. Most important to me, however, is that I am still running regularly and have these brilliant forums to inspire me every day.
Happy New Year AlMorr , your an inspiration sir along with a lot of runners here.
My highlight is the whole year as it was my first full year running and completed (well participated in) 25 running events.
The last one was earlier on the last day of the year in Ardagh County Longford, which was the last one for 2022. It was very tough, probably shouldn't have done it because of knee. I wore compression sleeves etc. Quite sore now when I straighten it. Next run is February so will just be working on my training plan for my first (official) marathon in Belfast 30th April.
Picture is of all the medals I received for the year, two of them were with my wonderful granddaughter.
All the best everyone for 2023. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone on Healthunlocked for being such an inspiration to us all, its a fantastic forum full of motivating stories and pushes us all to carry on the majestic craziness of running.
You had a fantastic year Freecloud, those medals are beautiful, you should be very proud of yourself, I wish you a Happy New year and all the best for your first official marathon in Belfast on April 30th.
Great idea for a post Alan! The run that sticks in my mind the most from 2022, was a run I did on holiday. We were camping on the Norfolk coast and I decided to give running on sand a whirl. It was hard work but I had such a good time. I had to jump over a few groynes along the way and a few seals popped up their heads to say hello! 2022 will also be the year I really got into Parkrun and got to know new people. Happy new year to you all!
Happy New year to you Newbierunner84, good run along the beach seeing those seals, running on sand is tiring but a lot of elete athletes do just that as part of their training.
Not a highlight, but I was very touched to run for Tim and to read everyone's tributes. He was a great mentor, sadly missed. The run reports showed what a great community this is.
Happy New Year to you all.
My running highlight was returning to Parkrun as a participating February. I did one of the C25k week 6 runs, I think. I wasn't able to run at Parkrun when it started again after Covid because I'd broken my ankle so it was my first Parkrun for nearly 2 years and yes, there were some tears at the end.
So happy to know Rowers that you enjoyed parkrun in February and one of the week 6 runs, run 3 of week 6 is 25 minutes, once you have completed it you are OFFICIALLY a RUNNER which you are, sorry about your Covid and broken ankle, so for you running at parkrun for the first time in 2 years would be quite emotional.
This is a brilliant post Al, thanks for putting it up.
It’s hard to pick one. The biggest achievement was the half marathon, and because I was running for a charity chosen by a close friend who is very unwell, that meant a lot to finish well.
When I was doing the magic plan, the first time I hit 10k was such an unexpected achievement that I was literally dancing in the country lane. I hadn’t set out to run that far. Thank goodness there were only a few sheep watching me!
There was also a completely nothing special training run which just felt absolutely brilliant and I was in the zone like never before (or since!!). I hardly looked at my watch and when I finished I’d set new PRs for 1k, 1mile, 5k and 10k without actually trying. That was a bonus! The best thing was that feeling of absolute freedom flying along for miles and miles. The aim is to find that again this year!
Like a lot of others, Tim’s run was a special one.
Wishing you a very happy 2023 with many runs ahead! ❤️
Wishing you MissUnderstanding a very happy running New Year for 2023, that was a wonderful half marathon run for you for a charity chosen by a close friend, you should be very proud of yourself. We do a lot of running on this forum but yesterday a man completed 365 marathons, one every day of 2022, that is an amazing achievement for him, I just wonder if any long distance women runner might try that sometime.
Nice post AlMorr 😉 Completing C25k was my highlight although I can't recall exactly that last 30 minute run. My run for Tim on the high levada in Madeira is etched in my memory as is run 1/1 on the cliff in La Gomera when I ran/walked for over an hour as the app went rogue on me 😂Happy and healthy New Year to one and all
so many outstanding runs recorded here, my main achievement is keeping running through working and family stresses looking after my Dad who has Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia it’s the only thing keeping me sane!
But running when away on holiday is the best type of run I ran through Bristol in the summer the sense of freedom is the best, also my colour run this year for our local hospice I have run every year for them since Mum sadly died in their care it’s great to give back whilst having fun and getting in a total state.
Keep running everyone enjoy the freedom and the fun!
Great question! Mine undoubtedly was an early morning run at 0:700 when it was cold and frosty (-4°) and a vixen trotted alongside me for about 1 km of the 8km run. She was completely unphased. I was uplifted.
That was a extra special run for you Vragtes running for 1K with a vixen accompaning you, well done to her and congratulations on completing that 8K in a temperature of - 4C.
Oh that's a difficult one.I had so many lovely runs when I was traveling around Scotland, it's difficult to choose a favourite. I also did my event the Bristol 10k which was amazing.
But I think my favourite would be there 6k I did while staying near Tongue, the views were amazing as I did my circuit and something I won't forget
For me it has to be running the London marathon. Unbelievable crowds and support.
Great post Al. 👍
2022 was the year I stopped running anything over 800 metres and took to sprinting full time.
My highlight was running a leg in the 4 x 200 metres for the VAC inter area team at Lee Valley where we set a new championship best performance. This was my first competitive race at that level and confirmed that I had made the right decision to switch.
Wishing you and all other HU running buddies a happy and healthy 2023.
No real proud moments from a running point of view in 2022 for me. However I have plans to make 2023 a very good running year. I aim to do a 10K race at the end of April, a Half Marathon at the end of August, run over 40 parkruns in 2023 plus visit at least 12 new parkrun courses in 2023. Hopefully if all goes to plan after the Half Marathon I plan to attempt to beat my parkrun PB of 25:36. I’m also joining my local running club.
hi ALMorr happy new year and all the best for 2023. Hope u enjoyed your time at your family. Well done on your half marathon. Are I tempted with the Glasgow half marathon or any other one?
Happy New year to you Doris8, o my goodness, yesterday 1st January, my daughter Gillian who park walked at one of the parkruns I attend invited me to her house for a New Year's dinner, this was around 4 o'clock, the meal was lovely but she kept giving me glass after glass of Picasso Wine, now I don't drink alcohol very often, perhaps at Christmas and New Year, after 3 glasses I felt a little light headed, her husband and I told her stop giving me any more, just as well, anyway it was a lovely occasion with her, her husband, 2 children and her husbands parents.I felt fine this morning, the weather was very frosty and sunny so I decided to go a 13 km walk, no after effects from yesterday, I might run another half marathon, but not the Glasgow one.
oh dear at least your recovered. I don’t drink but still get lightheaded, as of today. Me and Mr D have been getting the steps counted in Madeira . They’ll dwindle when I get back .
An excellent question AlMorr , and so difficult to answer. But I’ll narrow it down to 2.
London Vitality 10000, as we had to wait so long to do it because of the pandemic and it was everything I hoped it would be and more. It was a big runny buddy meet-up and also a PB 10k
The something that wasn’t planned and will probably never happen again was Dame Kelly Holmes turning up at Southsea parkrun when I was doing my 100th parkrun with runny buddies and UpTheStanley was Run Director . I also managed to retain my balloon in very strong winds which was a bonus
That's so kind Sir AlMorr because Tasha99 and I had such a great time together in Scotland 🏴 and meeting you there was awesome. We loved the chance to catch up with a lovely drink and cake after too. Let's hope we can do it once again in the future ❤
ohhhhhhh…that last bit! Tasha99 & GTFC …my heros! And Tim…my lovely friend 💙
What great highlights AlMorr ?!
Mine was running with GoGo_JoJo …she is a little pocket rocket and there is no way you couldn’t feel anything but good being with her…❤️❤️ If a person could be a prescription, she would be it…
Also runnng along the canal & seeing the little cygnets riding along the canal inbetween their mummy’s wings…just lovely 🥰 …nature is amazing & we are so privileged as runners, to be part of it and breathe it all in ❤️❤️
Running is just fab…
Happy New Year AlMorr , this is a great thread. It's great to be reminded of everyone's achievements, even when tinged with sadness for Tim's passing. If he could read this I'm sure he'd be joining in with his (much missed) words of wisdom.
The running highlight for me was finally completing a 10k, organised by the local Rotary club. That was in October. I'd originally intended to do it by March but it was well worth the wait even if both Garmin and NRC only recorded 9.95km 😂
The most memorable run otherwise was on 24th February in Russia. With the admirable clarity that can come when you're outside exercising we took about a minute to decide that it was a good time to return to the UK!
Meeting you was certainly one of my highlights too AlMorr ! It would be wonderful to meet up again 😊
