Managed to get out for a lunchtime run. Was supposed to be a long run but I didn’t have time so plan was a slow and careful bimble to get the legs moving and get some miles in. My last run was Saturday with my running coach and I’ve felt pretty exhausted for over a week. No plans to push it today.
Was a good test for the Icebug shoes too. I follow on YouTube a Swedish runner who lives in Norway and runs in these all the time. So I managed to buy a pair on eBay.
And I’m pleased to report they’re brilliant. They have mental studs built in which saved me on my walk to work yesterday on a very treacherous patch of ice and they were brilliant on today’s run. No slipping at all, not even on the big downhill. I’m a convert.
It was really pretty running in the snow and was definitely warmer than the last few days with no windchill. Glad I managed to sneak in a run. Very happy with a 5km not that far off my usual pace too.

Great news about those shoes... just what is needed for this tricky weather right now. They must be really good if they can handle the downhill icy bits too...
They are excellent. Those metal studs make a massive difference but they also compress into the sole on solid ground so they’re still comfortable to run in. I’m a big fan
Let’s hope not. I bought my shoes just in case it was a bad one and I’m now so pleased I did. Hopefully this’ll save me from the treadmill (which I am not friends with!)
I’m so pleased with them. Handy for every day too. When I slipped on the walk into work, the studs immediately dug in and stopped the slide. Felt really stable. Everyone says that you need to put your weight through them and trust them and that seems to be the case. I’m still being careful though.
Mine have been fantastic. I specifically chose one with a low drop (4mm) as I usually run in zero drop trainers. Icebug do different drops on different models. This is the lowest drop for any of the range with the BUGrip soles.
I also land on my mid-foot rather than my heel. Not sure if that makes a difference to how they feel and wear. As always, I think it depends on whether a shoe works for you. Fortunately, these definitely do for me.
It's been the grip being stiff and rubbing - even Icebug customer services seem to admit it as a known fault. And yes, shoes are so variable (I know loads here love Brooks Cascadia but I have that problem with them)
I'm right with you on the virtues of minimal drop!
Currently Freet and Vivobarefoot. (And I have to say that my current Vivos (which weren't my first) were dire when I first got them, rubbed me raw in umpteen places)
