Out on my own 🐑

I haven't been out since last Saturday's Parkrun. On Monday we decided to head to our boat on the south coast for a day, maybe overnight, to check it over, clean it and do the other stuff you have to do. It's not all glamour and sitting on deck drinking cocktails at sunset. I spend more time cleaning the boat than sailing it. I didn't bother bringing my running gear as it was just for an overnight. We ended up enjoying ourselves so much we didn't come home until Thursday afternoon.

My husband wasn't feeling brilliantso this morning's run was the first time in ages I've gone out in the fields on my own. The weather was dull and overcast and I could think of lots of good excuses not to go, so decided on NRC's 'Don't Wanna Run Run'. I left my jumper behind, risking wearing just a long-sleeved top and warm leggings, so the warmup walk was a lot brisker than usual. The damp sheep in the field were unimpressed.

By the time I reached the footpath I realised that, actually, I did quite want to run after all. As Coach Bennett started listing all the reasons why I wouldn't want to run today I was happy that only one of them resonated. He said something like, 'Your running buddy let you down.' This wasn't fair, my husband definitely didn't let me down by taking the sensible decision to stay at home. I felt quite indignant for him. Not like me to get cross with Coach B!

Halfway into the run it started to rain. I'd just turned back for home and decided I'd better speed up so as (a) to stay warm and (b) to get out of the rain quicker. Luckily it didn't last long and before I knew it the 25 minutes were up. I carried on running until I reached the road then walked home.

Just as Coach B promised, I ended the run feeling better than when I started and very pleased to have made the effort! Plus, Mr Garmin obviously agrees with him as he knocked a year off my age :)

That “Don’t wanna run” run has come out quite a lot for me too! Glad you ended up having a good one and congratulations on being a year younger! I think I need a Mr Garmin for Christmas…

Write it on a piece of paper and send it up the chimney...or maybe ask at one of the many Santa runs happening over the next few weeks 😂

I don’t know if I’m on the naughty list or the nice list!!!

Oh don't worry MissUnderstanding , get a Garmin and the idiot will tell you. It'll be nonsense, mind.

Mr Garmin gets left at home every time I want to run something fun because I know he won't approve. When I'm just about capable of a boring flat ploddy 5k, he loves it. If I run 15k with decent elevation gain, bang goes my VO2Max. According to the algorithm I'm fitter now than I was during trail marathon training. Ridiculous.

It's more convenient than a phone though!

I needed the pep talk before I got dressed in my running gear, once I was out of the house I was fine. I felt a bit of a fraud but it's always nice to have Coach B tell you you're awesome 😀

Where would we be without him? I wonder if he realises how much we all appreciate his ramblings?
