Oh no . With all the exercise you do strength etc, how did u manage to pull a calf muscle walking . Is that a long injury? 🙁

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply toDoris8

I know! The last time I had a pulled muscle was 4 years ago, but I thought I was in a much better place now, fitness-wise. And regular stretching after rowing and running! Arrrrggghhh!

Hopefully it’s like AlMorr pulled muscle, setting me back only a couple of weeks at most.

Hope so take care

Thank you!

Sorry for you CBDB, that is not good news, I hope it won't be too long before you recover and can run again.

That can happen anywhere, in February 2021 I pulled a muscle while lying in bed, it stopped me running for twp weeks, I still managed to walk a (not) parkrun in around one hour, get better soon.

CBDBGraduate10 in reply toAlMorr

oh I hope it’s a matter of a couple of weeks the most. Thank you so much, I guess it can happen anywhere…

I’ll have to plan some upper body workouts to bide my time!

Dendev75 profile image
Dendev75Graduate10 in reply toAlMorr

Wow, really? How on earth does that happen? Did you do a huge stretch?

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply toDendev75

I stretched my legs to get out of bed and ".ouch" I think I pulled a muscle, I could walk but only slowly, I certainly couldn't run, parkruns were still off, this happened in February 2021.

Dendev75 profile image
Dendev75Graduate10 in reply toAlMorr

That’s crazy. I always lie in bed for a few minutes pointing my toes then flexing them before getting out of bed, I’m going to do it slower and hopefully not have that happen. 😳

I missed this post - I’m going to start doing squats whilst I’m brushing my teeth from now on 😜👍🏻

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply toDendev75

ha ha… join the club! There are already a few of us doing squats whilst brushing teeth, right SueAppleRun ?

I had started to slow-motion tip toe around the house, as well, training balance and calves. But obviously this had to stop just now as well.

For now: upper body workouts.

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toCBDB

Squats are great but not with your injury CBDB I’ve built up over the years and now do 10 whenever I’m standing still and alone, calf raises well anytime really, shop queues, talking to people, they hardly notice and my legs thank me on every run, heal soon

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply toSueAppleRun

Yes. Thank you!

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toDendev75

Been doing them for years...and ankle exercises too!

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply toOldfloss

And your morning routine. what exactly do you do when you get out of bed, do you just point and stretch toes ? I seem to remember reading your morning routine but I fear I can’t quite remember.

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toCBDB

Yes... I wrote it in the last Runners Return post. "I swing my legs out of bed and I do the first exercise of the day. This is not simply because of my run, It is something I have done for quite a while to warm my knees, and ankles, calves and toes, up before getting up!

I sit up, swing my legs out and rub my knees, and calves, ankles and toes. I rub them vigorously to get the blood really flowing, and then will often do the, alphabet with your foot exercise... and sometimes sad toes, happy toes... I do sound quite mad don't I? But it really does help get everything warmed up before I go to the bathroom!

I am determined not to let things seize up!

It really wakes you up too!

And yes, I do have the , If you're happy and you know it, tune going in my head too!

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply toOldfloss

ahhh, the alphabet routine! Forgot about that! Nice one! Thank you!

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply toDendev75

It has only happened once in all the times that I have got out of bed🙄

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply toAlMorr

It’s now the second time it’s happened to me while walking. But the 1st time it was right at the beginning of my fitness journey where I went from nothing (or only walking casually) to walking 40-60min daily. So I could understand why it happened.

But this time, I’m fit, I’m doing regular stretches and mobility exercises, i work out.

It’s even more disconcerting!

So let’s hope these where the last times these things happen to us. Surely our bodies have adapted to be better machines to get out of bed with, or to walk! 🤣🤣🤣

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply toCBDB

Yes, let's hope it doesn't happen again.

So frustrating just when you'd set off on a new running journey.

I bet you've been lining up the exercises ready to strengthen those annoying calf muscles once it recovered a bit. Which hopefully is soon.

CBDB profile image

🤣🤣 I’ll have them now! First, upper body exercises to keep me busy.

Sorry to hear that, but I know the feeling. I was just walking from one room to another and I felt a “ping” as if done thing had Snapped! Very painful took several weeks before I dared to run☹️

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply tojohnt46

and “walking” again! Me thinks walking might be more dangerous than running! 🤣👍🏽🙏

The worst thing is how one’s confidence in one’s legs is completely shattered, because if it happens whilst walking, it could happen at any time! 😳

SueAppleRun profile image

Arghhh, so frustrating for you, even more so the fact you do all your stretching to try and keep injury free. I’ve only done it once, pain was intense but it was fine after a couple of weeks.

CBDB profile image
CBDBGraduate10 in reply toDendev75

yeah.., I really don’t know what else I could have done. I am eying my everyday shoes, though, as they are not 0-drop, but also not really high heeled. But maybe even 9mm makes a difference!

thank you! 🤣🤣🧀

Yes, I did wonder if these pulled muscles can happen at times when we think it least likely to happen; and when we relax our muscles too much and then injure it when as we move that but faster or further.
