Running tourism

We set off across the Channel a few days ago, and after a hairy start (4 new tyres fitted on Monday but the wheel nuts on 2 of them weren't tightened so they nearly fell off as we exited the ferry, luckily no harm done but how scary!) we are now in Poland.

After arriving at our hotel yesterday afternoon we had a walk and found a park so this morning we decided it would silly not to go for a run. Breakfast was served 8-10 am so I was insistent we couldn't miss it as we'd paid extra lol.

Set off at 8.30 ish, aiming for around 3km so we would be finished in time. It was a lovely morning, not cold, not hot, with a bracing sea breeze. NRC was playing up, the auto on/off kept stopping the run at random, really annoying so I had to stop, go into settings and turn it off then restart.

We ran along the waterfront to the pier and then to a park and back, having a nose around the fishing harbour along the way. Not sure how far we went, probably just under 4km, then back to the hotel, showered, dressed and caught breakfast with 15 minutes to spare (it was well worth getting back for).

It's great to run somewhere different :)

A scary start but I’m glad you managed to get the car fixed YLG! Have fun running in some new places and enjoy your trip!

Sounds like a fun run, and glad you're enjoying Poland and that the breakfast was worth getting back for Yesletsgo !

If those new tyres were fitted by a garage purporting to be professional that's not just scary, it's dangerous incompetence. Please tell them what happened, because although you were fine, the next people they do it to might not be so lucky.

(Yes, I am the woman who refused to accept a hire van because there was a nail in the tyre. "Don't worry, it'll be fine, anyway I haven't got another van" does not cut it, especially for a 2600+km return trip. They found me a new van.)

I've already been in touch with the tyre place, a highly reputable local firm I've been using for years. They checked their CCTV and apparently saw the tyres being fitted and tightened so are checking their equipment. I'll go back to them once I'm home.Unbelievable that a hire place would knowingly send you out with a nail in the tyre, think of the liability issues. Good for you on insisting on a different one. You don't mess around with dangerous tyres!!

Delighted you've already taken it up with the company Yesletsgo .

Our van hire was from a local supermarket, over a decade ago. Back then there were no major rental companies within 50km. Supermarkets had just started doing rentals, and once customer services had done the paperwork they basically sent the nearest shelf-stacker to hand over the keys. The young lad had clearly had no training, nor the authority to change the vehicle, so part of me felt sorry for him, but I'm not risking my life for that!

That sounds amazing. Being new to running I’ve not been on holiday yet where I will think and possibly plan a run whilst there. It sounds exciting 🏃🏽‍♀️😊
