Hungry legs, not so hot dawn(ish) running.

After twisting my ankle on 24 June I was very lucky to be able to recommence running a week or so later (lucky not to break an ankle I think!).

Since then I have been trying to exercise uncharacteristic restraint, and not overdoing it.

I was loving the running before doing the twist and since then my legs have been hungry for running and rebelling against my attempts at going slow and gentle. And now my watch has joined in, suggesting a "Threshold Run" for the last three days; my model of Garmin does not have a setting for "Ankle in Recovery"!

I decided it would be OK to go a bit faster so long as my heart rate was kept reasonable, so programmed a 36 minute "Base Run" into my watch, heart rate target 135 bpm, which I've been using for the last couple of runs.

Peeked out the door around 5 am and it felt quite cool (even though the weather app insisted it was 19 / feeling like 20). Took me until 6:20 to get out the door, but still felt OK temperature wise, and quite a nice breeze.

36 minutes later, a bit more than 6 km covered, average HR 135; so bang on. The acid test is how my ankle feels later on, and so far not a peep from it. 😀

Forecast for 5 - 6 am tomorrow is 22 degrees, but the same breeze as today. Think I'll be sticking my nose out early doors and hopefully it will feel like it did this morning.

Thank you! When you are enjoying your well earned retirement (soon?) I hope you enjoy getting up when you feel like it. 👍

Ah - sorry - somehow thought you were planning it for next year. My mistake - apologies! 🙇‍♂️

You are right, no apology needed, I could have retired in January and had thought I could work another year but I’m enjoying work so much that i’m thinking I could work a bit longer 😀
