4K Run and it’s hot again! 🥵

I had planned a nice, easy run this morning. Thought I would potter along for about half an hour or so in heartrate zone 3 and enjoy the sunny morning!

Ah well. It was a nice idea, but as often happens to my plans, it didn’t quite work out that way! I went on my “don’t really know where to run” route as it wasn’t going to be a particularly long run. So downhill for the first km and then pretty much flat through the trees and round the pond. I noticed in the second km that my heart rate was a higher than expected for the effort I was putting in and even slowing down didn’t make much difference. I figured it was because I’ve had Covid and I remember the same thing happening after all the vaccinations, too.

I felt fine and I was happy to be out running, so decided to just go with the flow. By the last km I was running in Zone 5 and it was a bit of an effort! I was ready to stop at 4K 😊.

Because I’d had walking breaks during my easy run on Tuesday, I really wanted to keep going on this run. I had a few periods of slowing down, but did not have any walking breaks.

I ran for 35 minutes and my average pace was 8:42. I was sweating at the end and ready to head for home and coffee! 😊

I’ll run again on Saturday and probably try for a Zone 3 run again and see what happens 😊. Perhaps I’ll just slow it right down to barely more than walking 😊

That sounds like a terrific run! Building up the post-Covid energy reserves again. 🙌

I’ve learned to accept that runs don’t always go to plan, but it was still a good run 😊

Thats awesome Jools, brilliant pace and the heartrate will settle. 😁

I found post-Covid runs unpredictable- rarely did what I’d planned. Well done for getting out again - sounds like a good run 😀

Thanks. Covid has left me really miserable, too. It’s taking all my positivity to stay on top of it!

Glad you remembered that you've just had covid, that was pretty good and only to be expected that you might be a little out of breath! Well done 😀👍🏃‍♀️

Yes, absolutely! I was fortunate that Covid didn’t seem to affect my breathing, it’s just the raised heart rate, so working harder than I would normally. To be expected, but I’m still pleased that Strava gave me 2 fitness points and weirdly I got 2 PBs on segments which I hadn’t noticed to start with! So all good I think 😊

Hi Jools!Great to see you back on here. I haven't been able to run for almost a year too... Funny old world, funny old fitness challenge!!! Wishing you well 🤗

Joe!!! Great to see you, too! Sorry you haven’t been able to run. I had a couple of bouts of illness, so this is the second time I’m trying to rebuild my fitness. I remember you were injured. Are you still not running?

Not yet, not yet... back trouble turned into something more complicated. Aiming to get back to doing something soonest but for now concentrating on the physio I have to do, then some Strength & Fitness. Building up to some 'brisk walking' next, then maybe a jog etc etc. Work gets in the way...and now juggling starting rehearsals for an am-dram panto come Christmas! All Best!

Keep up with the physio 😊 it’s hard to build back up again! I went back and did the second half of Couch to 5K again, which really helped. Then caught Covid a few weeks ago which set me back a bit - so just started running again last week, it seems to be going Ok 😊

Panto sounds exciting, but a lot of work!

A good run for you though Jools all things considered. I'm sure having had Covid isn't helping the heart rate. But the temperature and humidity wouldn't have helped this morning either.

You know I hadn’t thought of that 🤣, I was so focussed on recovering from Covid!

Hi Jools, high humidity is the killer for me, it affects my breathing and sap's my energy much more than the running does.🥵

I agree with that, but I’ve always thought that it’s the humidity that increases my heart rate 🤣 not sure which is most to blame!
