Up early for a Saturday to take my son to work this morning and used that as an excuse to get dressed for a run in -5. 🥶 (Photo does not show the extraordinary mist across the lake ...)
I wore a Lidl running T-shirt, a Ronhill winter top, and the Berghaus "promise" layer top that I bought back in the Spring. I bought the Berghaus in a charity shop for £4 when I was finishing week 2 of C25K; I planned it a statement to myself that I'd be running in the winter (or in the dark as it is very bright yellow!); even back then it seemed like a big ask: to go from often spending 2-3 days in a row mainly in bed to running for 30 minutes - let alone to still running for 30 minutes 2-3 times a week when I'd need an extra layer to keep out the cold!
This morning I ran 4.4k in 34 minutes. I'm still a bit slower than I was pre-injury, but after a one minute warm-up, I did run without walking for the rest of the time.
Wore my Lidl running gloves for the first time too and was really comfortable in the chill. I really love the Ronhill gear, but it does go to show that there's no need to spend a lot to tog yourself out for running.

I know! There I go, prioritising the woman in my life. I'll tell her I'm getting it in the neck online; then I'll sleep with the spiders in the shed tonight!
Good to see you out there again and togged up to go! -5 now and snow forecast over the next few hours... slightly warmer tomorrow -3! The mist over the lanke must have looked beautiful.
Don't neglect those stretches... you need to stay strong and fit for the next few weeks and beyond! x
Fab run for you to clock up and a wonderful pic too. Hubby stepped out for a run early this morning but he turned around and came right back. Very icy underfoot here.
Brilliant and brave...I'd consider myself an all weather runner, bring on the wind, rain and hail but there is one type I avoid.
I'm truly scared of falling in minus temperatures so don't dare go out when it's icy.
Unless it's very bad I do generally get a walk in to make up for it, unfortunately this morning's walk lead me to Macdonalds for a breakfast, whoops! 😆
Hopefully it warms up soon, well done getting your chilly run in, fabulous view 😀
It took three laps of the little(ish) lake to take my time/distance in, but it was lovely seeing it get lighter - and maybe a whole degree warmer - as I ran!
Great run and great kit selection too! Absolutely love a bargain. My favourite jacket was £5 in the sale in Sports Direct. You’re right that kit doesn’t have to cost the earth.
I’d be a bit nervous about a cold run with only a minute’s warm up, especially coming back from an injury. Warming up inside and then heading out is my preferred option when it’s really cold!
Next time I’m in Lidl, I’m looking at their gloves!
I have been really good about warming up recently, but in my haste I skipped this morning and I really felt it. That was a reminder to be good in future. I had to shop on the way home from the run, but I did my warm down exercises before eating my breakfast and I have more stretches planned for later!
I once had a bit of a talking to from my physio who told me if I didn’t have time to warm up properly, I didn’t have time to run. That was a my reminder and its stuck with me! We all have days where it’s a bit rushed and there’s absolutely no judgement coming from me.
There was a nice tip on the Women’s Running podcast-warm up indoors wearing a coat so when you go outside in the cold, it feels lovely and cool rather than freezing!
Well done on your run Gthants . You have really been through it over the last few years and hopefully you are now coming out of the other side . I am a great fan of Ronhill gear, I think because it fits me so well, and is well made and reasonably priced.
How is your rotator cuff injury now? I’ve just been seeing a consultant about mine.
My rotator cuff is really painful; I sometimes have to hold my arm whilst running, putting my left arm into sleeve isn't pleasant, and reaching on that side is not good. But the simple fact is I was given exercises for it and have stopped doing them. So, I'm getting what I deserve!
I did exercises yesterday and I have my band out on the table to nag me into them today too!
Yes do keep those exercises going. I can’t do them at the mo because I had an injection into the shoulder last week and now have to leave off physio for 6 weeks. Thankfully I can run without pain, and can start again tomorrow.
