To go out or not go out 😐 (Even Misty can't decide)

I did my last run on Friday which was a steady recovery run following my previous intervals run a day or 2 earlier .

The run on Friday was steady but I did feel an occasional discomfort in my back , nothing painfull , just unusual, this came and went a couple of times during the run.

I finished the run , came home and stretched and all felt fine .

Later in the afternoon it felt uncomfortable in certain positions .

I was planning on a long run today (15k)

And was all set for this morning, everything charged , fully hydrated and a few snacks ready and waiting however late last night I had my doubts over my back .

I massaged the affected area (not very easy) with Kräuterhof pferdebalsam (fantastic product!) And went to bed .

When I woke at 5:45 this morning I thought it was ok untill I got out of bed , then again I noticed in certain positions it was quite uncomfortable!

So decision made ! There will be no run today !

Although Misty is still undecided!

So I will give it a few days and see how it progresses.

I'll try gentle yoga stretches in the next few days if it's pain free .

If not then it may be a call to the physio 😐

So sorry Ian that you did not get your 15K run today because your back feels very uncomfortable in certain positions, a very wise decision, I just hope that it won't be long until your back is no longer sore and you will get that 15K run.

Thanks Al, it's disappointing but definitely the right decision, the run will be there when I'm ready , it will probably put me back a bit but I'm not in any hurry

This morning after yesterday's parkrun I went a short bike 🚲 ride, tomorrow l'll be going a walk around the loch that I ran run 3 of week 7 of C25K 4 years ago and on Wednesday I will attempt to run 10 miles which will be my first 10 miles run of this year.

I should get my bike out of the garage!I haven't been on it this year 😐

I was going to say good luck with your 10 miles ... But you will be fine 😁👍

Oh, no! I hope this back problem eases quickly. Definitely a good decision: it’s not a state to be heading on a 15k run. It’s such an anticlimax when one’s all ready and excited for a step-up like this (the 15k) and then to be halted. But you have a clear and positive plan, which is good. Misty looks a bit disappointed, too… or has she just spotted something moving outside? Hard to tell. We’ve got fox cubs active… and we’re trying to steer the cats away from being too curious about these new arrivals to the London gardens-jungle.

Yes very frustrating! But I had to be sensible 😐

Haha, Misty often sits there watching out for imposters 😁

Sorry to hear about your sore back, but a wise choice to pull back and rest for a few days. Interestingly, it was at the 15k mark on the NRC HM plan that I started to feel a few niggles too - all those speed runs can be pretty intense! Hopefully after a few days rest you will be right as rain and ready for that 15k 🏃🏻👏

Yes, your right !I have been doing all 5 runs (but not in 7 days)

When this settles I might just do 3.

1 recovery , 1 speed, and 1 long

That's pretty much what I'm doing (after a bit of a break when James Dunne wore me out 🙄) - it feels much more manageable and I think I'm sort of back on track, although no longer sticking rigidly to the plan. After all, I'm in no rush. Hope your back is easing?

Not much better yet !Early days I guess.

And like you , I'm in no rush , I'll get there when I'm ready 😁👍

Sorry to hear about your back and having to cancel the planned run. Hope the yoga helps and maybe this is your body telling you to rest a little.

That’s such a shame but definitely a good call. It’s frustrating when we have a run in our head and it’s all planned out! Perhaps a nice warm bath and a cup of tea will help. I hope it improves and that you can get it in as a Jubilee run! And Misty may have come to a decision by then 😁.

Thanks Kate !Yes very frustrating, and by next weekend I may need to cut back a little .

Oh, and Misty decided it would be best to sleep again 🤣

A cat after my own heart that Misty! I had some mega snoozes yesterday afternoon 💤. I am totally ignoring the fact it’s probably a sign of getting older 🤣. Really hope the back gets better 😊.

Aww, so sorry you’re not able to get out in this beautiful sunshine today Ian..very sensible of you though…don’t need anymore damage than what’s there already…you’ll have to enjoy the sunshine in another way x 😜

Definitely the right decision, as frustrating as it may be. Hope your back gets better soon. In the meantime some cuddles with Misty might do the trick 🥰

Oh no! Sending you get well wishes! Those witches must be at it again! (I did tell you, didn’t I? that a certain type of back pain in Germany is called “Hexenschuss: shot by a witch!”)

Take care of that back!

Get well card

Thank you !Just taking it easy for the next few days (And watching out for witches!) 🤣

When my back was feeling niggly, I came across this video. It’s pretty intense and earnest, very focussed on helping the lower back area. It works so effectively for me that I now have the page open on my phone all the time, so that I can spend the 12 mins it takes whenever necessary. Might be worth a try? youtu.be/4BOTvaRaDjI

Oh dear! Best not to run if you're back's hurting. I hope you recover soon. Yoga and walking in the meantime sounds like a good idea. Take care.

Thanks , And I'll definitely not be running !

Just taking it easy for a few days then may try some light excercise

My parents' cat looks outside and comes back in and complains loudly to my father, requesting that he fix the weather.

Take care. Backs are delicate things.

Misty is actually silent !She never meows .

Her mouth moves but no noise comes out 🤣

The back is still sore , I'll give it a few days then maybe ring the physio

Oh dear I hope your back is feeling better soon. Misty is just sitting and contemplating, mine bit me this morning, he hasn’t done that for weeks I wasn’t best pleased to go to work with great bloody gashes on my hand again, sure you don’t want another cat? I’ll post him

Firstly has Misty got out the door yet! Secondly I hope your back is ok? 😊

Haha, yes Misty is in and out all the time !She is chipped and it's a chip operated cat flap so she just comes and goes as she pleases 24/7 😁🐱

And thanks, my back is improving each day , might try a short run tomorrow 🤞
