A beautiful morning but my other half decided to sleep late. I had a coffee and a slice of toast around 8.30 then about 10 he appeared and suggested a run. On a day like this it would be rude not to
Today was the first day warm enough to expose my old pale chubby legs to the sunshine (the first with warm sunshine too!) so I dug out my shorts woo hoo!
After my knee pain on the last run I took it very very easy. I didn't run on the road at all, waiting until I was on the grassy footpath to start. Set off very slowly and about 500m in the pain started. It was really bad. I took a few steps and it didn't go away so I told my husband to carry on without me and he set off at a pace that he likes instead of my shuffle.
I started walking home but after a few more steps it felt ok. Having made the effort to go out for a run I decided to try again. Very gingerly I started, paying huge attention to how my feet struck the floor. It was absolutely fine. By now husband was way ahead of me and didn't have his phone so no chance of catching up with him.
Our route includes a final stretch of 1-2 km along the sea wall which involves going up a flight of steps then a narrow and uneven path. Bitter experience has taught me that steps are not my knee's friend and I didn't want to be running on any sort of bumps so instead I ran out and back to the sea wall, covering 3.41 km, a bit less than normal. When I was about 5 minutes from home I got a call from my husband - I was the one with the key, where was I? By the time I arrived he'd managed to get in so all was well.
I don't like this knee pain at all so called the doctor. The good news is they have a physio and I can book an appointment directly with him. The bad news is no appointments until June, and if I want to see a doctor they only make appointments on the day. I'm just very fortunate that it comes and goes, if the pain was here all the time this sort of wait would be unbearable.
