Hello Everyone. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

This morning I was up early and traveled to Carlow Town parkrun. My wife is from this town and I’ve never done this parkrun before. I was joined by my 15 year old son and we traveled together whilst listening to Oisin’s music selection. I prefer the power tool, but we were listening to drill. Awful music.
Weather was nippy but bright and dry. The parkrun was an out and back along a river trail finishing with a lap of a town park. Another lovely event with friendly welcoming volunteers. Oisin was well ahead of me at the finish, my official parkrun finish time was 26:20 matching my Garmin time and I finished in 18th place. Very happy with that as I felt comfortable throughout the run. Afterwards we went to a lovely cafe and had a beautiful breakfast.
Good run for you today Damien, the next time you travel to a parkrun with Oisin insist you listen to traditional Irish Folk Music or Irish hits of the 60's and 70's, he probably won't like that but you are the driver. 😂
It must be so nice to have your son back running with you damienair - as AlMorr says, all you need now is to persuade him to change his music choices and it’ll all be perfect!
Mr C and I both completed our 250th parkruns today at Southsea. A very windy day of the sort that strikes terrors into anyone who has experienced the great south westerly whilst doing the Great South Run. I am walking, slowly, with poles, thanks to various complications and consequences of treatment I have had for metastatic breast cancer. Mr C took one look at the wind forecast and decided that walking with me was a better option than running.
Dressed in various clashing pinks and lilacs as today was also Portsmouth’s Pride March, I reckoned I would be visible from the space station if it happened to fly over. Upon arrival we were greeted by dear local friends Dexy5 , Oldgirlruns and UpTheStanley . 250 today labels were attached to us. We also had a small group of visiting HU people down to support us. Absolutely delighted to welcome JonathanP , cheekychipmunks and Mudita11 (I think that’s the correct tag, apologies if not) to our 250 event.
We started at the back with Dexy5 and Oldgirlruns tailwalking behind us. My health means completing the event is difficult at the best of times and the wind certainly didn’t help. Leg 3 of the course, into the wind, was really tough. Kidney damage means I need to regularly hydrate, and every time I stopped using the poles to either drink, or blow my nose, I almost ground to a standstill. We were regularly picked out by others thanks to the 250 today labels, and that definitely helped keep me motivated.
Upon finishing, a good group of regular volunteers were waiting, alongside those of our group who had run. An existing 250er had sourced a 250 green shirt for me, and this was presented to me on completion. Then we retired to one of our lovely cafes for a celebratory brunch.
Thanks again to all of those who supported me, especially my husband, who’s own 250 probably got less attention.
Amazing. Huge congratulations to you both for your 250th parkrun. I am so delighted for you as I know how much of a struggle it has been for you to reach this milestone achievement. You have personally persevered so hard and stuck to your dreams and made it. You should be super proud as I know you are. Wishing you every continued return to health, and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
When I looked at the wind forecast yesterday, I was dreading it for you but you kept a brilliant walking pace throughout. It was so lovely to be part of both of your special 250 run, and I too was glad to not be running. Congratulations Coddfish , we all know the effort it has taken to complete the event over the last few months and your strength of character and determination is an inspiration to us all.
You were epic today Coddfish ! However it may have felt, you looked strong and it was an honour to be there to see you and Mr Coddfish reach your super impressive goals! ❤️
Pleased and proud to be there today to see you cross the finish line as determined as ever, to a tremendous welcome from friends and parkrun buddies Coddfish . My own run paled into insignificance on this occasion but I did enjoy that final leg with the wind behind me - felt as though I was flying!
It was a fantastic achievement Coddfish and I was so pleased to have been there. Many congratulations again to you and Mr C and here’s to continued improvement in your health x
I missed this post…blame my long journey home from the deep South West!
I am so pleased that you and Mr Coddfish have hit your 250 Park Run target. It is an heroic achievement. Courage, determination and out right stubbornness rolled into one. Typical that the weather made it as hard as possible on the day; but you were never going to be beaten. Wear your 250 shirt with pride; you are truly amazing. 🙂🥇🏆
Good afternoon Damien and all parkruners, today at Dunfermline parkrun marks exactly 5 years since I began my first parkrun at Dunfermline, today was my 45th parkrun there, #117 altogether, my time five years ago was 34:16 with a age grading of 53:55%, today my time was 33:39 with an age grading of 59.68% so I am very happy about that, this old guy of 78 ain't slowing down just yet, 😊, the weather was dry but cloudy with a temperature of 12C, so a good day for a parkrun. ✔️.. by the way there was plenty of cake at the finishing line as today was Dunfermline parkrun 9th birthday, 😋 yummy 😋
Happy parkrunniversary AlMorr . For a 78 year old you’re not doing bad at all. I wonder if you thought you’d still be doing it in 5 year’s time? Getting quicker too. Don’t forget, they have an octogenarian run at Bushy Park each year, so only two years to go . 🏃🏻♂️
Thanks Dexy5, I'll just take all my runs as they come, I am not sure 5 years ago if five years later I would still be running, but as I still enjoy it, here I am in 2024 still running twice a week, the other day I run is on a Wednesday, my runs that day vary from 3K to 10K with quite a few 8K's thrown in for good measure.
There are a few men, especially at Dunfermline parkrun around the age of 79 as well as a few already in their 80's, the 80 year olds usually run 5K in around 40 minutes, but there is a 82 year old man at Springburn parkrun who runs regularly sub 25 minutes, usually his time is about 23 minutes, certainly he should run that octogenarian run at Bushy park, I do feel if I couldn't run a sub 40 minute 5K I would probably stop running, but you never know.
The King graces Parkrun every week and 5 years ago you were brave enough to do your first. Could you imagine then that you'd be doing so well 5 years later?
Thanks GTFC, I do occasionally miss a Saturday running at parkrun and run what I call "a 3K maintenance run", or I am a marshall or tailwalker but most weeks especially from April to the end of October I am at parkrun running, I am not sure after running my first parkrun 5 years ago if 5 years later I would be running parkrun #117 as I did today, regards to you and Tasha99 ✔️✔️😍 ❤️
Preston Park Brighton for us again, my 7th time at this event. Picked purely for the fact it is a bit more inland so slightly less breezy.
Obviously a lot of other runners thought the same as us and there was 510 Parkrunners & walkers in total.
We both got our own course PB's today (mine was 1 second quicker than my last time there, and husband managed to shave off a good 20 or more seconds on a not so flat course).
You have to love a good parkrun morning don’t you damienair and today was one of those days. It was Coddfish and Mr C’s joint 250th parkrun; definitely a day worth celebrating! Coddfish is still not able to run so they walked it with Dexy5 and me just behind as Tailwalkers. There was a good stiff headwind in places but the loops in our new course thankfully mean the wind is behind you on the final leg. Dexy brought balloons, of course, but we decided it was too windy to take them; they looked good above our breakfast table! We were also joined by JonathanP, Mudita11 and Cheekychipmunks and it was lovely to see them all again. Parkrun time was 1:09:29 but that’s not important, it was all about the occasion!
So sorry to be only replying to you now. Very well done to you all for joining Coddfish and Mr C for their joint 250th parkrun. I was so delighted to see it last week.
As noted above, I visited Southsea today to see some of my pals and to help celebrate Coddfish ’s epic 250th. I can’t help but be in awe of such a strong and determined lady. ⭐️
Left home at 5:15am aiming for an 8am arrival including a coffee stop. Apart from the biblical rain, which didn’t clear up for over an hour, all was going well. Then the satnav turned red and I was at a standstill! Thought maybe I’d driven all that way to not run 5k (which would have disappointing!) but ended up being ok when we began moving. 🙏
Lovely to see Coddfish , Mr Coddfish , Dexy5 , UpTheStanley , Oldgirlruns , Mudita11 and JonathanP again. It was my first time doing the new course and it was hard work against the wind on the outward legs, Not my fastest at Southsea - my slowest actually - but it was a lovely run and I really enjoyed it. Garmin 38:48, official 39:20. 😀
It was a long day for you. We went out in the evening and the road is still closed, due to a fire at a nearby waste management site. Apparently the smoke is too thick for driving through .
Very well done Cheeky. So wonderful of you to get up so early and make the journey to join the gang to celebrate the 250th parkrun for Coddfish and Mr C. What an amazing achievement. And fantastic support from all of you.
As I'm not supposed to be running at the moment I volunteered at my local parkrun yesterday.
I turned up early (8am) and helped the Run Director and her little son set up the course. Then I was the second tail walker.
The other tail walker sped off ahead and I kept just behind a lady who had recently undergone a huge weight loss and was planning on working her way to doing an ultramarathon before her 50th birthday.
On the final lap I helped clear up as walked the course.
And of course I finished last, as is right and proper.
