I have just completed my second London Vitality Virtual 10,000 in a time of 1:09:50 which is a little quicker than last year's time of 1:11:40, I don't need to run it twice, remember last year the tech failed, no problems this year.
The weather was dull with a little rain but that didn't bother me too much, I enjoyed the run hoping to get a sub 70 minutes time which I just managed, I wish anyone else who is still to run the virtual version all the best, especially Birdlady64 who hopes to run it on Sunday.

Thanks IP, I thought it might be a little over 70 minutes but the last four K's were negative splits just making the run under 70 minutes ππΎI have now posted my result with that same graph above to the Vitality or is it the London Marathon organisation of proof of my run this morning and got a email back congratulating me saying that I will get a π₯ medal and T Shirt π in a few weeks time. π ππΎ
Thank you javo123, I am quite pleased with that time, it isn't a 10K PB which was achieved last November on the same course in a time of 1:08:44, nevertheless, I am not too bothered about that, I enjoyed the run this morning, that is the main thing.
Oh thatβs fantastic, Al! Well done on beating last yearβs time, with no tech malfunctions this time! Now you can take it easy for the rest of the day ππππππΎ
I'll tell you EXACTLY what it is.I bought it at the supermarket Iceland.
On the packet is "Cadbury Dairy Milk creamy vanilla ice cream swirled with milk chocolate" 100% sustainably sourced cocoa, on the packet 4 ice creams, its in the same style as a lollipop. π
I have only been eating them for a few months since my neighbour, the owner of Holly the dog gave me one after I came back from a walk with Holly, I then noticed them the following week when I was doing my weekly shopping and have been taking one after I have a run or come back from parkrun.
Congratulations Al, thatβs brilliant to beat last years time, and to not have the tech issues of last year too! Iβm still in awe of your fitness as I canβt get close to your pace
Thank you very much WillowandSola, I was hoping to get a PB or at least get it under 70 minutes which I did, no PB but under 70 minutes and about a minute quicker than last year's Virtual 10.000. Yes I keep fit, I walk every day, it's now the cycling season so I go on a bike ride come Sunday, on a Thursday I go a walk around that loch in the graph above with my walking group, we walk a 4K usually in around 45 minutes and afterwards have a coffee and cake in the local leisure centre, of course on a Saturday I go to a parkrun, well most Saturdays, not every Saturday, by the way, my 5k split time this morning was 34.09, that was my 99th (not) parkrun which I posted to my Dunfermline Website
Next week will be my 100th (not) parkrun, I will run a 5K, it won't be a split time of a longer run.
I suppose once I retire Iβll do more running, I would really like to do the great south run, but weβll wait and see, I do admire you your fitness and enjoyment, itβs somehow more important as we get older
Thanks Timotea, well done to you on completing run 1 of week 2 of C25K, who knows, perhaps next year you might run the London Vitality 10,000 either in London or the virtual version as I did this morning.
I have just had 6 months dealing with injury and associated frustration. You have done the hard bit now. Starting C25k again is really positiveβ¦,progress week on week; I have gone from HM to struggling to run at allβ¦.but I am back on the trail now and that is definitely enough. The longer runs will wait. A 6k this week felt wonderful. π
The tech worked perfectly for me today, I was a little worried that I would not be able to upload the proof that I ran, however, no problems whatsoever, within 3 minutes I got a email congratulating me saying that I would get a π₯ medal and T Shirt π in around 10 days time.
Brilliant! A well deserved medal π and you must be so happy to have beaten last year's time πππ Hope you enjoyed your chocolate ice cream ! I didn't sign up this year, I wasn't sure I'd be up to 10k by this week - as it happens I've already done 11k! But there's always next year π
Great work Al. Post run rituals are very important. Mine used to be a flat white and triple chocolate brownieβ¦.but the latter has been a victim of my diet. As my mileage increases, maybe I could resume normal service πβ¦..as I say, these rituals are important!!
Indeed Beachcomber66, my ritual after a run on a Wednesday and Saturday is to eat a chocolate ice cream, I am not overweight, all that walking, cycling and recently running keeps my weight down
Indeed Couchpotato2, I won't need to run another 10K this week as I had to last year, thanks, yes I am pleased on my sub 70 minutes time today, just one little disappointment, last November when I ran my PB time for a 10K which was 1:08:44 I had my metromone app at 171 cadence / steps per minute, this morning I set it at 172 cadence but my stride today must have been a teeny bit shorter hence today's time of 1:09:50.
Very well done Al, and congratulations on beating last yearβs time. πππ Would you be tempted to run the race proper, or is it simply too far away to contemplate? π
Thanks CC, I am sure there were many runners from Wales, Ireland and where I live, Scotland, hmmm, not sure about travelling 413 miles (just Googled the distance) to run the actual London Vitality 10,000 I know that you love travelling all over England to meet people on this forum, but most of those distances are less than half the distance from Scotland, it does seem easier to get into the 10,000 than running The London Marathon. π ππΎ π
Yes it is a very long way for you Al, but if you find yourself willing and able to make the trip one day, itβs definitely a wonderful race and so well organised. My daughter wants to run it next year too! π
Very well done Al, that is a brilliant time for your Virtual London 10K. Your route may not have been on the streets of London, but it does look like itβs beautiful Scottish countryside.
I wonder if you get a different coloured T-shirt to us? We shall wait with baited breath. ππΌπ΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ Ώ
I read somewhere that both the runners in London and the virtual runners would get the same medal and T Shirt, there are several photos of where I run somewhere else on this forum from a few years ago, do you remember ButtercupKid? she named some parts of her run after several members of this forum, I decided to name my whole route after her as she was such a inspiration to me and others, hence the name of my route called "The ButtercupKid 5K trail"
Thanks Doris8, the weather was dull, there was a little rain, temperature around 10C, I only saw one other runner but there were several dog walkers who said good morning to me.
Thank you very much Oldfloss, yes it was a super run, ran in sub 70 minutes which I hoped for beating last year's time by exactly 1 minute 90 seconds, yes I enjoyed it π ππΎ π
Thank you, yes. Gradually working back to where I left off with my bad fall in February. Iβm up to 60 minutes, so going very well. 10k will be my next long run and tomorrow Iβm trying my first speed session. Very exciting!
I am thank you, although there is plenty of room for improvement. I must get back into the habit of keeping in touch with folks on this forum, it is so helpful.
I made sure that there wouldn't be any tech issues by checking the phone before I ran, that was my 25th 10K, I have only ran three under 70 minutes, the slowest about 76 minutes, my PB time for a 10K is 1:08:44 which I ran last November on the same course.
Thanks Marvincat, nice that you have read my profile and started following me, I wish you good luck on your quest to run 10K, take all the runs slowly as you have been doing and perhaps next year you can take part in the London 10,000.
Thank you very much Birdlady64, I enjoyed that run very much, just a little rain, not much, it reminded me of the day 2 years ago that I ran my first 10-mile run, then the rain was much heavier, I was happy with my sub 70 minute time and with no problems like last year with the tech, I have kept my BIB No. as a souvenir.I did relax after the run but took my neighbour's dog Holly for a walk at 2 o'clock around the park near to where I live and sometimes where I run as well.
Once again I wish you good luck with your maintenance run and especially the run on Sunday.
Congrats π₯³. Iβll be joining you later today as Iβm running it after work. I wonβt get anywhere near your time tho but thatβs fine, itβs the distance that counts, and the bling and t shirt of course π. That choccy ice cream sounds good π. Iβve got something similar in the freezer. Itβs going to be hot later too! Sounds just perfect!
Thanks OGR, no effects whatsoever, this Saturday will be my 43rd parkrun, but it's next Wednesday which will be my 100th (not) parkrun, most runners are not too bothered about not parkruns but as you are still allowed to run them, I have continued my mid week run as a not parkrun, either as a split at 5K on a longer run as on Wednesday or just a midweek 5K as I will run next week.I was thinking as I have not ran 10 miles this year I may try to do that in a fortnight, to heck with building up to 16K as I have over the last two years, I will go for it immediately, if I feel sore at 12 or 14K I will stop, but after yesterday's run it's possible I maybe able to run 16K /10 miles straight away. π ππΎ
That 10 miles run if I run all that way will be in two weeks time, next Wednesday I intend to run my 100th (not) parkrun, I hope you are keeping well β π
