It was on the 24th June last year that I ran my last 10K run although since then I have ran longer runs, several 11K, 12K and a 10 miles run on 22nd July last year.
I am training for the Vitality London Virtual 10,000 later this month or early June, I intend to run that on Wednesday 2nd June so over the last few weeks I have been increasing my distance by 1 Kilometre a week, today it was 10K in a time of 1.13.08, I was hoping it would be sub 75 minutes, which it was. π ππΎ

Brilliant Al, what a great run, and well done for getting sub 75 minutes. π Enjoy your virtual Vitality this month. I did it twice last year, once in May and once on the second postponed date in October. Such a shame this one has been postponed too - there was quite a number of us entered. Canβt wait to run the real thing WHEN it happens! π€ππ»
With me living in Scotland it was highly unlikely that I would come down to London to run the real 10K which I watched on television in 2019, so the virtual one suits me better, looking back on my running 2020 diary, I noticed that I ran the virtual London 10 000 on Monday 25th May in a time of 1.13.23, it wasn't a paid event like this year, I think it was Dexy5 who invited virtual running buddies to take part in that run which I did.
Yep and you ran 2 half marathons around a park near to where you live around 40 times, during the winter months I ran a 8K around a football pitch very near to where I live, 1k around it was 5 times, 5x8 is also 40, so I ran around that football pitch 40 times to make up that 8K run.
Well done Almorr. I think we will probably do our vitality run on Wednesday 2nd as well. You will have to wait for me at the finish line though. My best (and only official) 10K time was 73.27I am not expecting to beat it though.
Thanks Sue, I set my Metromone app at 165 cadence, steps a minute, the exact same as the last 2 or 3 weeks when I ran, 6,7,8 and 9 kilometers to increase my distance by 1 Kilometre a week, it works out at 7.19Km average pace, my 10K PB is 69.23, that was run before I installed that metromone app π
Well done Al, yes the vitality 10K is happening next month. Your name could be a race in its own right. Hope you enjoyed your bank holidayπ²π²πββοΈπββοΈ
I had a good Bank Holiday Weekend thanks limu_mu, Friday, 6K walk, Saturday, 5K not parkrun, Sunday, 10K walk and on Monday another 6K walk, today's run and those walks are all adding up to my total distance to the COGH Challenge.
That's great pace, you'll be more than ready come June 2! I signed up for the VLV10000 too but I don't think I'll be able to complete it, I've not been running much lately after my dog passed away last month but I'll be rooting for you!
Well done on that sub-75 minute 10k Al πEspecially as it was the first for a while.
I was dreaming of a sub-75 minute run when I got injured on the HU Virtual Spring 10k. It probably would have been nearer 80 minutes. My PB is 1:21:49. Alas no Vitality 10,000 for me this year.
Thanks. I hope so do. I've done a couple of short runs but life is getting in the way if running a bit at the moment. Maybe tomorrow I will get another short run
PS. Anna, you may or not be aware of a virtual running and walking challenge we have here on Healthunlocked calledCOGH, that means Cape Of Good Hope, it was thought up by one of the longest members here called Irish John, the virtual challenge is from a town in North East Russia to the Cape of Good Hope, there are over 80 doing this and if you want one, they there is also a T Shirt you can get,
Looking at the list of walkers and runners I have been around No. 14 for most of the time, mainly due to long walks rather than running, but the runs add up as well to the overall total for the whole team.
We have ran virtually through - 40C weather in Siberia, through bomb torn devastating Syria, through the deserts of Egypt, we are now virtually run /walking through the malaria swamps of Sudan, it won't be long before we get to The Cape of Good Hope, of course this is all virtual, we could never do that for real.
Well done Alan, you must be feeling pretty good about that! Iβm still doing 3x8 minute runs to try and get my hip working again - 10km seems a very long way off! I donβt think Iβll ever be in your league!
I hope it won't be long before you can get your hip working again and can run along the Southsea prom with Dexy5 and UTS, well done on those 3x8 minute runs. ππ
Well done Al, that is an excellent time for your 10k - you will be even faster once you have your running number pinned on your T-shirt. Iβm so sorry the real event wonβt happen in London for us for the 2nd time, but at least it allows you to run a virtual race in Scotland.
I hope you didnβt have to run in the snow. βοΈβοΈβοΈ
There were a few hail showers but not until after I completed my run, I am looking forward to the Vitality Virtual London 10,000, perhaps it was just as well I ran it on Wednesday morning at 8.20 because the weather forecast for Thursday at that is for SNOW, hopefully it won't last long and should soon melt as Thursday is the morning of my walking group, the walk is around part of my running route, it's a 4K walk, usually takes around 45 minutes and after the walk we have a coffee and cake, however, the cafe is closed at the moment so after the walk we just go home.
Great work Al. Well done on beating your target. You are all set for a great day on 2 June; I hope that the sun shines on (not too hot though) and that the going is good to firm!!π
If it is going to be a warm day on the 2nd June I'll run that 10K as early as 6.30 am, last summer during the very warm weather I ran one of my not parkruns at 6.30 am, same with my midweek longer runs, warm weather, early start, thanks, I was hoping it would be sub 75 minutes for my run yesterday.
Well done Al, Iβve just got back to a 10k run after recovering from lejog fatigue! Not sure where I am on the cogh front, but I keep plodding away with runs and walks. Hope injury keeps away till the end of this month so I can join you on the 10k starting line. Despite living in London Iβm doing the 10k virtually too, so much easier running to and from my front door.
You are in a higher placed position than me Kat332zz, you are at No. 10 as at 8.15 on Thursday morning on that list, I am at No. 13, Number of runs for you are 46, you have walked 136.4 Km, your distance of runs are 306.64 Km which makes a total of runs and walks to 443.04 Kilometers.
Iβll see you on the starting line too not sure which day yet probably the Wednesday as that was the day I did last year, like you I wouldnβt have travelled to London for the race, the bib and pins have arrived this morning, that gives the feeling of a race though.
Before this run I will have completed LEJOG04 at John Oβ Groats weβre going to have a short holiday, I am currently 17 miles from the finish.
Well done Almorr, that sounds like a good time to me for a 10k. I like the way you break the run down into laps of the football pitch too and I'll bear that in mind. I'm a bit stuck on 6 1/2 k at the mo and if I could organise it in a similar way, it might help.Best of luck with your virtual London run, I'm sure you'll give a very good account of yourself. I'm just off to Covent Garden as we speak - for real!
Thanks Raisemeup, those 40 laps of the football pitch when I was running 8K won't be repeated any time soon, certainly once I've completed the 10,000 London, I will report back hereπββοΈπ
Just read your post Al and you have inspired me to enter the Virtual London Vitality 10k. Only done one 10k so far. This will motivate me to do it again. I don't risk running too far because of my age. Lol. Thanks a lot. π
I am so pleased to know HevvH that I have inspired you to enter the London Vitality Virtual 10,000, I got a e mail from the organisers today stating that this Sunday 9th May is the final day that they will accept entries, soππΎππΎππΎπ, I will be running a few 10K runs before the ππΎbig oneππΎ
I've just entered Al. Can't back out now. Will be my first medal....that's if I complete it. Maybe I will aim for Wednesday too. πββοΈπββοΈπ
Of course you will complete it, good luck, I assume that you mean Wednesday 2nd June, plenty of time to train for it, try and run over the next few weeks at least 2 or 3 times a week gradually increasing the distance to 10K.
