Well for my first chip 10K I ran at my local community annual Cumbernauld 10k in a chip time of 1:09:22 which is the fastest 10K of this year, the weather was a little warm and sunny but not too bad for running, I was running and talking to the 70 minutes pacer, there were two but sadly one of them had to abandon the run due to a injury, the other told me my 5K split time was 34:42 and if I maintained that pace which I did I should get a sub 70 minutes time, so overall I am very happy about my run this morning.
Almorr - Cumbernauld 10k : Well for my first... - Bridge to 10K
Almorr - Cumbernauld 10k
Well done Al, that sounds as if you really enjoyed it - your first timed run and your fastest 10k this year! 👏👏
The King 🤴 🙌
Thanks Dean, I left my house at 10.20am, got to the start at 10:45, soaked up the atmosphere, saw a few runners who I know from parkrun, I then looked for the 70 minutes pacer, there were two, I got slightly ahead of them at 1K, looked back and slowed down but for the rest of the run I was running along with them, unfortunately just before 5K one of them had to withdraw due to injury, for the last 100 metres the pacer asked* me to sprint which I managed to do and got a sub minutes 70 time by 38 seconds, I met a runner who ran it in a time of 1 hour and ONE second, that's a bit flustrating for him, I wish you and Natasha all the very best for next Sunday's Great North Run, I will be watching it on the telly.
*That should be SHOUTED
Absolutely fantastic running Sir Alan 🎖⭐ Congratulations on an EPIC 10K running your fastest 10k this year👏👏👏👏
Wow, Al - a huge well done! Brilliant run. 👏👏👏👍
Thanks Jools2020, a bit on the warm side but I had plenty of liquid with me which was Tesco Diluted Apple Juice, I put it into my refrigerator 15 minutes before I left my house and took it out 1 minute before I left.
That’s very forward thinking, Al - and I’m sure it helped! 😊 A great tip !
It did help, I have just noticed the full result on their Website, I was No. 466 which I knew immediately after I finished but I didn't know until a few moments ago that I was second in my age catergary and 520 runners finished, that 520 is much lower than expected, I think many runners must have pulled out of the race for various reasons, certainly the weather didn't put them off unless they didn't like running in the 20C temperature.
Al, you should be more than happy with that result! It does seem odd that a lot of runners withdrew.
There were 435 runners in 2022 and an amazing 1,106 back in 2019, I remember being a spectator in the stadium in 2019, there were pacers from 45 to 75 minutes and all those runners got a sendoff by a large highland pipe band, no pipe band today and even the pacers did not have those big flags that they carry while running, not even a T Shirt or goody bag, its all to do with cost saving, but I did get a nice medal 🥉
It would be great to get a send off by a pipe band though! 😊
👍 Like everything else Jools I think there is a shortage of men or women trying to learn how to play the bagpipes, today that sub 70 minutes 10K of 1:09:22 was a very rare time for me, out of the 44/10Ks I have ran only 5 are sub 70 minutes, the first one was in 2019 in a time of 1:09:23, that's 1 second slower than today, the second sub 70 minutes 10K was in 2021 in a time of 1:09:31, the third was on the 17th November of the same year in a time of 1:08:44 which is a PB, my 4th sub 70 10K was The London Vitality Virtual 10,000 on the 4th May 2022 in a time of 1:09:50 and #5 sub 70 minutes 10K was today in a time of 1:09:22, on my first event race, so as you see it's not too often that I can run a sub 70 minutes 10K, I am sure that today's sub 70 minutes time was due to the encouragement that I had from the 70 minutes pacer
Al thats flipping amazing running, very well done 👏👏👏 ✅ 👍
Well done Al Morr good time. Great to get some sunny weather than through the dirt.
It was quite warm but I only wore shorts and last year's London Vitality Virtual 10,000 T Shirt and had plenty of liquid with me in my running belt which I did drink during the run. 🏃🏾 👍There was one feeding station serving water in small cups but I never took one as I had my own drink with me, one complaint which has happened at many running events is that once the runner has had his small drink he drops the small cup on the ground,, this could cause following runners to slip on one of those cups, of course all of those cups will be picked up after the race.
Wow - what a great run - many congrats 🏃🏻♂️👏🏃🏻♂️🥳🏃🏻♂️🥇🏃🏻♂️
You are simply amazing Al, really really well done! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Very well done AlMorr and such a great time! I think I've done a couple of events this year with slower times. Good on you!
Congratulations Al on your brilliant first timed 10k. A super time too and your fastest this year you should be very proud. I know we all are. You’re just amazing 👍👏👏👏😂😂. Now feet up and celebrate🥇 🎉 🥳🥳 you deserve it🥰x
Thank you very much Folkylass, I do have my feet up, I usually go a 10K or more bike ride on a Sunday morning, however, this morning it was a very short 1K bike ride to get my legs ready for that 10K run.
Just checked my inbox looking for your post Awesome Al! What a brilliant time, so very well done 👍👏 I hope you are now well rested.
Good Monday morning to you lexi6, I enjoyed my first 10K event race race yesterday, the weather was dry and sunny temperature around 17C so not too hot, I am very pleased with my time thanks, the time in the UK now is 10:11 pm on Sunday, I am about to hit the pillow, have a lovely day. ✔️👍
Congratulations on a brilliant first timed race and a 2023 PB for 10k. Although I know you said it wasn’t quite like previous years, but the support and adrenaline always help me go a bit faster and I’m sure that will have helped you along. At the end of the day, though, it’s all about the bling 🤣
Thanks Sandie 1961 good post from you, I did get a bling at the end of my run this morning, nothing else, no goody bag or even a T Shirt, I think it's to do with cost cutting, some 10K events are as much as £30 more than what I paid back in March for that 10K, perhaps another £30 could have got me a goody bag and T Shirt, as it is I now have more running T Shirts than non running T Shirts 👚. A parkrun T Shirt, a 25 parkrun T Shirt, a 50 parkrun T Shirt and 2 London Vitality 10,000 T Shirts, I will soon have a 100 parkrun T Shirt shortly as around the middle of October I will be running my 100th parkrun
I think I can probably beat your t-shirt tally as I have a whole drawerful of race t-shirts. However, due to being in France for 7 weeks this summer, you are going to beat me to 100 parkruns (I’ve been stuck on 82 since mid July)
Congratulations on a very good run!!
Thanks very much Week7, I enjoyed that run on Sunday ✔️🏃🏾
Very well done Al, picking out a pacer is a great way to achieve the time you want. 2nd in your age group is brilliant and I’m glad you enjoyed it too. But where is a photo of your medal?
Thanks Dexy, I'll get the photo of my medal 🥉 posted later today, at the moment it's in a drawer along with the two other medals I have from the London Vitality Virtual 10,000 of 2021 and 2022. I am about to go my usual Monday morning walk, I take the train to a very small place called Bowling then walk along a canal to a local beauty spot their called The Saltings.
Congratulations Al! That’s a great time. Do you think you will enter more chip timed events? Personally I love them for the atmosphere- and of course the medal 🏅😄. Hope you’re having a relaxing day today 👍🏻
Well Done, good time...have an Excellent day
That is awesome running! Were there many hills?
well done Al! Great job 💪😀👍👊✊🏅
I hope you’re now rested and feeling good 🙂
Thanks misswobble, I am fine today after yesterday's 10K run, this morning I went a short 4K walk, I'll run 5K on Wednesday morning, I am sure there will be no after effects from Sunday by then.
What a fantastic run Al! Really well done. Running with the pacers worked out really well for you 👏 👍 👌 I hope you have recovered and treated yourself as uou deserve it. Today was perfect weather here for a chocolate swirl ice lolly, though you would need to eat it quick enough that it didn't melt 😋
Thank you very much Birdlady64, I understand that the two ladies that paced me to run just under 70 minutes were from a lady group based in the east end of Glasgow called "The Jiggly Joggers", that group helps ladies to get fit and start and graduate from C25K, they use Springburn parkrun in Glasgow for their members to graduate from C25K, I have seen them in their all pink running gear doing that parkrun a few times, unfortunately one of them had to pullout due to a injury just before 5K, Lorraine the other 70 minute pacer helped me run my second best ever 10K.
Oh very well done and superb time for your first official 10km. 👏👏👏
That sounds like a great paced run - well done 👏🏻
Whoop whoop!!! Well done Al 👍👏 I’ve just seen your beautiful bling which is well deserved.
How did you feel during the race? Did you enjoy it?
Thanks Irishprincess, I felt good during the race, I intended to follow the 70 minute pacer which I did, she and I while running talked about parkruns and how many we had been at, she has attended around 350 parkruns compared to my now 94, she told me if I kept up this pace I would get a sub 70 minute 10K time if I went a little faster over the last 200 metres, I did'nt think I could but she shouted at me to sprint which I did, lol I think she should become my personal trainer, I am glad that you like by bling.
Those pacers do such a great job! It would be brilliant to have a personal trainer 🙂
She told me at least for that race a pacer wasn't given a bib, number and their result is not published on the result page, I only knew that she was the 70 minute pacer because of the number 70 on her T Shirt, perhaps that was the reason the pacers did not have one of those big number flags with them, being a small amount of people running I found it easy finding all the pacers without that big flag.
