I’m a bit late to the party this morning. Happy Virtual parkrun day everyone. It’s looking very different out there this morning. A lot cooler than last week, windy, dark menacing looking clouds and threatening rain. But I’m putting on my new Apricot t-shirt and I’m looking forward to pounding the pavement in an hours time. Looking forward as always to reading all the post virtual parkrun run reports below.
I don’t know if I ever put up a photo of the river Boyne which I run along for part of my 5K route. Here it is. Enjoy everyone. Every week we do a Virtual parkrun means we are one week closer to the real thing starting back up again.

Last week at this time (8.30) I had already ran my 11th Virtual 5K parkrun, but this week its back to the normal time of 9.30, so in just about 35 minutes from now I will be getting ready for my 12th, the weather where I am in Central Scotland is sunny with a moderate northerly wind with no sign of rain, enjoy your run, nice photo of the River Boyne.
Update, yes I had a great run this morning Damien, the weather was cool, dry, sunny and a little breezy but not the gales that they are having in the east of England, my time was 33.21. 🏃🏾😊
Next Wednesday I intend to run my 8th 10K, enjoy the rest of the day 😊.
Sooo I wasn’t planning on running today as the forecast was for high winds, and I ran yesterday instead. 😇 🏃♀️
I had a ready made excuse to have a lie-in followed by a leisurely breakfast - so why was I lacing up my trail shoes and stuffing Flossie in the car at 8am? Because I’m a runner and I’m a bit of a bonkers woman I guess! 🤪🏃♀️
This is my 2nd runniversary week, so I thought I’d run with my lovely MJ today. I fired up W1R1, had a warm up walk, then started jogging when he said walk for 5 minutes. I then ran/jogged the 8 run/walk intervals before jogging the 5 minute cool down walk - plus a bit extra to make 5k. It made it more interesting! 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
The wind though! 💨💨💨💨💨
Hope everyone else doesn’t get blown away on their Virtual PRs today! ❤️
Thanks Dexy. I’d rather be doing a long milestone run on the day (11th) but to be honest I can’t face more than 10k on the common and my favoured towpath is too narrow to pass others safely. So MJ to the rescue for my runs this week! I enjoyed hearing his dulcet tones again! 😍
Congratulations on your second runiversary week cheekychipmunks, so you started C25K just a few weeks before me, my second runiversary will be on the 18th June, its a Thursday, so I'll run that day to celebrate, I intend to run my 9th 10K.
Thanks for all the messages on the parkrun quiz TailChaser (Queen Elizabeth Parkrun is in London, Queen Elizabeth Country Park in Hampshire.) I need to work out how to chat on you-tube! 8/15 for us - would have been 9 but UTS pressed the wrong button.
Glad you spotted them Dexy! Twice as much chance to get that one right 😁 I did think it odd that it didn’t have the rest of the name, guess it’s the Olympic park one. You beat us by 1, we seem to do worse when we have to guess less 🤔
Yes, he was about last week too. There are some names on there that seem to be there most weeks (a bit like a proper parkrun really). Shame about Mary's story this week.
Hope you’re having a great run Damien, see you in a bit - we chose the lie-in option this week 😴 don’t think it does our quiz results any good, 7/15 this week, dreadful 🙄
It did Dexy, sorry, I popped this in first before I spotted your tag. For some reason my phone only tells me about replies and Likes not about tags, which is very annoying!
Sorry, bit late filing my report! Run, followed by shower then big family Zoom session before yoga and bacon rolls! First time we've seen our family as a group in months, we're finally getting to grips with getting virtually together 😍
I really wasn't feeling it today. Everything that's been in the news this week has really got to me and I was feeling like going into hiding. So I just hoped the run would make the difference - I should have done an extra one yesterday really as I only did a short one with the boys but there was just no time. Stepping out of the door I thought, do I really have to do this? It was blowing a gale and it was freezing too! But yes, I did have to, so off we trotted to our usual starting point ("Do you want to start earlier to get warmer quicker?" asked Katnap , definitely not, we always start at the usual place!! I do love my routine!
I'd decided it was going to be a slow one, but whenever I decide that it never is. And anyway, Katnap has become very speedy during lockdown and I have to try to keep up with him. The wind tried it's best to slow us down by being in our faces almost the entire journey, but it's become a new companion over the past few months as it doesn't seem to be able to leave us alone anymore.
The hill was particularly tough and the long road afterwards seemed to take an age. Once we got to the next road I have it in my head that there's just over a km to go, which really helps as I struggle to keep the momentum going. Thankfully the wind had let up a bit here, but not once was it behind us!
We finally got to our finishing point and I had to stop to get my breath, which is quite unusual these days (running so much with Katnap as a companion seems to be getting me fitter too). Just under 29 minutes this week - a real battle but it's just what I needed. Now the lovely bacon rolls (particularly good this week even if I do say so myself!) are in our tummies and I'm ready to take on the world again.
Great run TC despite the weather. Don’t bacon rolls just cheer you up. Hope you feel better for your run. I think we are all riding our individual roller coasters right now. The stupidest little things can set me off. However, we are being positive today and have booked the Channel Tunnel for 2 July in the hope there will be a relaxation on travel (our local Bistrot opened again this week, so already dreaming of our first meal with Shake-and-run 😋)
I know exactly what you mean Sandie. I’ve been fairly steady up to now but this week it’s just hit. Fingers crossed for you, I so hope you can go. We are contemplating booking a campsite in Dorset the week we were supposed to be going to Wales in late July🤞🤞🤞
Thanks Dexy. I was so close to PBing Stratford parkrun just before lockdown so when it finally comes back who knows!! We are so lucky to have running 😍
I’ve been struggling a bit this week so haven’t run since last Saturday, but I knew I had to make the effort this morning to help me feel a bit more connected to the world. It didn’t look promising at 7.15 when I got up to make tea - pouring with rain and blowing hard. Then, as if by a miracle, from 8.30 onwards the rain stopped and now we are bathed in sunshine. Still rather windy (sounds worse in Bristol than here though based on Cheeky’s comments). Virtual parkrun complete and bacon roll and mug of coffee demolished. Have a good weekend everyone 😃
Great timing for you all then! Flossie came along with me and had a lovely time. I’m happy she didn’t roll today - during my last run she found something scrummy 🤢😅
Great stuff Sandie! It's the after-party that makes this all worth while (and the wonderful 'company' of course 😍). Stupidly windy here too. Have a lovely weekend!
Drizzly and blustery here today, but I’m a Parkrunner and it’s Saturday so off I went.
This week’s runs have been a struggle, so I was pleased this morning went a bit better. Ran the big hill without stopping, 5k time was 32.05, which is not far off a PB for this route, and not bad considering the amount of times I had to divert for walkers/other runners.
Nice to get a fellow parkrunner shoutout again too!
After a very pleasing 10k on Thursday (1.00.08), I decided to take it a bit easier this morning, particularly given the stiff breeze on my final westward-bound leg. Set off at 8.45 - there seemed to be less runners around today for some reason. Stuck to my usual route - I am a creature of habit!
The result - a time of 29.19 and back home for fruit and yogurt. Happy running everyone!😀
A late start for our 12th Goyt Valley non-parkrun. There was another virtual folk club session last night, so we didn't wake up until after 8am (normally 7.15 on Saturdays)
It had rained enough overnight to fill the waterbutts and it started to rain heavily while we were eating first breakfast.
But it stopped and the sun came out by the time we left the house. Usual 1km warm up down the hill, then outbound for 3km. It was getting warmer and I remembered the water bottle was at home!.
At about 3.5km it started to rain but I was soon under cover of some trees. But when I emerged it started to rain heavily. I was soon soaked through, but loving it. I stopped my watch at 5km then reset it to run the final km back to the foot of the hill. Gentle walk home in the sunshine again for a nice warm shower and second breakfast.
Only sad thing was that I remembered that we should have been at Wirral Folk Festival this weekend and we would have walked to the nearby Ellesmere parkrun. Oh well, maybe next year.
I wouldn't have liked to set off in that rain but I did enjoy it when it started. I have always liked running in the rain as long as it is not icy cold as well
I’m just back from my Virtual parkrun morning out. It was really cold and windy but the rain thankfully stayed away. I wore my Apricot parkrun T-Shirt and listened to With me Now which is a parkrun podcast. Social distancing was very easy this morning, only hardcore runners and cyclists were out and about and very few. All I passed had a very nice hello. I just took it easy today and wanted a 30 minute 5K finish time. I nailed it with a finish time of 29:59:7. You can’t get much closer that that. I then met up again with my parkrun buddies for a post virtual parkrun coffee at the Gym. It was really quite this morning so we could enjoy our takeaway coffee inside. Which was a very welcome relief from the cold and the wind. We even had 2 coffees each. After catching up for 2 hours in was time to head home. So another virtual parkrun done, have a great weekend everyone.
Come on, you were 0.3 seconds out - you can do better than that 😂🤣🤣 Oh to be able to go into somewhere to have coffee and meet people. So jealous of your long catch up!
I know , it’s a little hidden gem. Very unfortunate for the owner. But fortunate for us. Because there was no one coming in or out she allowed us to sit at a tall table on tall stools just inside the door. If it got busy we would have to leave as it was officially takeaway only.
Happy Saturday everyone. I ran along the canal again this morning . It was very different to last week and definitely quieter. I managed to avoid the rain and the sun came out as I walked back home 🌞. Strava says my time was 27.39 but elapsed time was 28.17. I didn’t stop so not sure why the elapsed time is longer. Perhaps when I slowed a little to let people pass me? Anyway all done and back home. 👍🏼
I did a belated VPR today. The weather earlier in the day was, to use Tasha99 favourite adjective, "brutal". High winds, rain lashing down; just plain awful. Things eased off a bit by 6pm, but I was stopped on my way out of the house by Mrs BC who said that I was surely not going out without tights! Bit like my mum making me wear my wellies as a kid!! Anyway, I did as I was told, for once, and set off into the cold. The cloud, plus overhanging trees, must have provided really thick cover as the GPS took a long time to warm up. I had only run 500 metres when I came across a tree which had blown across the path and there was another heavy branch on the ground a little further along. Good idea not to run first thing today!!
A steady 32:47 5k followed by a hot shower and my spicy wraps and all is well with my world. Of course the garden is now bathed in sunshine, the wind has disappeared and it is a really lovely evening.
Physio on Monday. My knee feels a lot better, but I expect that she will have a good prod around and give me some new exercises to do. Next run due on Monday too; 8k, so I think that I am getting there. Happy running wonderful VRBs.
Well done, and glad your physio is working. I wear shorts all through the year, for running. I must look like a proper weirdo in the middle of winter. 🥶
I remember games sessions at school when we were sent out in shirt and shorts in freezing conditions, and didn’t give it a second thought. I think my OH is conscious that I am the only driver now; protecting her asset!👍
