HI vrb's.

I've been given Run the ring of Kerry for my birthday (71last week) by my son. I've never done one of these virtual runs before so not sure how it works. I've downloaded the app

Questions are...do I start my Garmin as usual? Will I get a documentary in my headphones or do I do like normal and listen to a podcast or some? Will it my runs be recorded to the R o K challenge automatically? you can tell I'm a novice!

Happy birthday! Sorry I can't answer your questions either, I've never done one of those virtual runs. It sounds amazing. Hope it's all explained somewhere on the app or their website. Enjoy it!

Happy birthday, even if late, I think you can still play music or a podcast and yes start your garmin, other than that I’m no help at all but have fun and will enjoy reading about it

Hi mormor1, fabulous. Well I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. I love virtual runs.

So first some questions:

1) is it Run The Ring of Kerry by the Conqueror (there are various companies organising virtual running challenges)

If yes then:

2) the app you downloaded, is it called “The Conqueror” (there is a different app they used in the early days, which is still available but is not as nice)

If that is yes then:

Answer: the app is what holds most of the experience. It shows you where you are on your virtual run, and any milestones and postcards you might have received. But it doesn’t have audio, so u you oh can run with your music. You can however connect it to various trackers, so it automatically adds your miles. So under SETTINGS, look for CONNECTIONS and then look for GARMIN . And from there follow instructions.

So in short:

- yes run with Garmin as normal, but don’t forget to connect Garmin to the Conqueror app to automatically ad your apps to your Ring of Kerry challenge

- there is no audio, so run with your music/podcast as usual

- if you have the garmin connected it will add your runs automatically to the challenge

I loved the virtual experience so hoping you will have as much fun as I did!

Thanks so much cdbd, it is run by conqueror so yes to your questions. I'm starting today so will let you know. A bit disappointed there is no virtual commentary en route tho as I would love to revisit that part of Ireland.

Well, definitely use the app for looking where you ran after every run, as it gives you a brilliant feel of the route. You will at least see the what running the Ring of Kerry would look like, even if without audio!

Looking forward to seeing how you like it. I love the Conqueror app, and their medals are the most gorgeous one on the virtual challenge market, I think.

Huh 🤔! My Runkeeper-Conqueror connection was not immediately but within minutes or so.

But I think garmin works differently as it first needs to upload from garmin to garmin connect?

How exciting!!!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Conqueror.

I already did several of their challenges and am currently working my way through the 5 challenges of Lord of the Rings. That said, I just start my watch, run or walk, upload my activity from the watch to Garmin Connect and that automatically uploads it to the Conqueror app. Next I open the app after my run or walk and look where I have 'been' so to say and watch the route through the imbedded Google Street View option. And that is basically all that I do with it. Oh and wait for the cool medal to come of course 😉.

Thanks Bs, I was hoping to hear from you as I've read your posts. My runs upload automatically to harming connect and I connected the to Conqueror... I think they only upload at midnight each day? My harming just shows me my normal route map, not the conqueror map?

in reply to Mormor1

Garmin remains as it always has been, nothing changes. As for when it uploads, normally it uploads to Conqueror when you upload your watch data to Connect. I always connect my watch to Connect (what a sentence) after every activity, I don't wait for it to do it automatically (my Bluetooth is also always disconnected, I connect it when I want myself to spare battery life).

That said, if you want your steps to upload too, that is on midnight indeed I think. But I have for example in my settings in the Conqueror app that it only takes the runs for example and nothing else from activities. This way I have 2 challenges running besides each other. Runs (outdoors + indoors) load up to my Inca Trail challenge and walks (outdoors + indoors) load up to my Lord of the Rings challenge. So make sure to check out those settings and options too.
