New Running Club

It would be fair to say that my running has been a bit half hearted this year so far. On Sunday at Burghley, I spotted a couple of ladies in Nettleham Trotters t-shirts and had a chat with them, as Nettleham is only 3 miles from me. I came home, signed up and went out tonight for my first Trot. There must have been a good 30 people in 2 groups (a C25k group and the rest of us). The run was basically round the village as it was dark and the C25k group did part of the route with us. 6.85k so I ran round the car park to make it up to 7k! The group meets on Mondays and Thursdays - Monday is speed, hills or other technique run and Thursday a “chatty” (sorry, does not compute 😂) 1 hour run. As the nights get lighter, they will venture out into the countryside more. This is going to be fun 😃

That sounds just what you need and I love the sound of the chatty runs 😀

It would be great if I was actually capable of chatting while running 😂 I did chat to various people before and after though!

That’s excellent Sandie. There is often so much camaraderie in these running groups. We have several different ones here and it’s great to see the support they give to each other at parkrun and other races.

It made a nice change from running on my own 😃

Hi Sandie, your running club sounds perfect! I used to do long runs with my husband but for the past few months I’ve been running solo as he has a long term injury. ☹️

I’ve missed his company and lacked motivation. The local running club often run past and look like they are having fun. I haven’t had the confidence to join, but your post has inspired me! 😀Thank you and Goodluck with your running 🏃‍♀️ club.

I’ve pretty much run on my own the whole time and it has its benefits, but I’m ready for more company! The Trotters are described as a social running club - I couldn’t even consider an “athletic” club, so I’m hoping it will be perfect.

That does sound fun Sandie. I like the idea of the mixture of runs the it offers. I bet you’ll enjoy it!

I can’t possibly join a running club - I’m already out choiring on 3 evenings and Mr Cheeky would probably feel abandoned - we’re already ‘ships in the night’! 😅

My choir is only 1 night a week and Mr S already goes to a gym class at 6.30 on Thursday, so it fits neatly!

I missed this! I don't feel that , half-hearted, describes your running this year. You have had some great runs and the run with the others at Burghley sounded pretty amazing to me !

The group sounds wonderful and it sounds as if you are really going to enjoy it too! I do like the idea of the , chatty, run but like you, I wouldn't have a lot to say until after !

Enjoy this new venture :)

I’d decided to run 3 times a week and to do a long run each week but I’ve only really been managing twice and mainly 5k. My motivation and stamina have also both taken a knock since covid, so I’m hoping this will be the pick me up I need 🤞

That sounds brilliant! The perfect motivation and it's great that they mix it up too. Enjoy it 👍

This sounds so great! It might just persuade me to contact my local club!

(But for now, still need to get of the COVID recovery couch, then C25k again, then B210k, and maybe …. just maybe then … might I consider joining the physical running club world 😳😳😳😳😳😅)

Great to read this. Thank you!

Have a look at what kind of running club your local one is. Mine is described as “social” and our 7k run yesterday was at just under 7.00 min/km and they made sure nobody was left behind so it was very comfortable and welcoming!

Sounds a good way of giving you some focus plus something slightly different to mix up your running. I always notice how quickly a ‘chatty’ parkrun passes. Enjoy.

Funny enough someone had the Boston Parkrun yesterday mentioned to me about a group that meets a couple of nights aweek to run and although I can't make it every week because of work, I thought about giving it a go as I always run on my own and find pacing myself really difficult, but im going along on Tuesday hopefully to try it! Yours sounds fun, a little too far for me, I'm more Boston/ Coningsby direction so we'll see how I get on 😄🏃‍♀️

After nearly 4 years of mostly running on my own, I reckon it’s time 😀
